Special Effect Competition #1 - Winter Wonderland

Daelin makes good SFX with actual geometry.

JetFang makes good one-shot SFX with lots of particle "tails".

And I rarely use anything else than particles in any of my SFX.

We've got all bases covered, really.

Don't forget me using actual models with sfx added. You may not have seen much of me yet but I promise you I've got a list of like 30 or so possible ideas.

By the way do doodads or attachments count as SFX? I was thinking of making some ski attachments.

Pyritie is the underdog ;) I doubt skis count as effects. Anything that has to do with particles or ribbons or even geometry combined with particles and or ribbons is considered sfx. I have seen the stuff you made and they are really nice. But dang, 30 ideas? lol that's incredible. I'm stuck with like 15. Doodads as in an ice pillar poking out of the ground with some particles then disappearing can be considered sfx. Skis however, are completely out of the picture.

Sure... but they have to use particles, ribbons or whatever to be an SFX. Using only geometry would make it a model...

Well, if you use geometry only it could be a buff, so that would be an SFX... but not skis...

Doodads can be SFX though, like fire models or that magical wall door thing.

EDIT: Oh, I still have ideas... just need to finish my nuke model.

Dang, so there goes about 12 or so of those ideas. I was planning to do a whole winter sport set. XD

And 30 ideas is what you get from sitting near a pool in Egypt with nothing to do because the water is too cold to swim in and the only book you have is one you've already read during the whole of yesterday.

-Ice Shards (see video)
-Frost Waves (see video)
-Frost Wall (see video)
-Snow Storm (see video)
-Ice Block
-Ice Block Missile
-Freezing Aura (see video)
-Comet (see video)
-Ice Spheres (see video)
-Snow Cannon Missile ("photorealistic-like" Snow missile)
-Snow Cannon Ball (Think snow ball... at 500 meters per second)
-Snow nuke (Had to do it. It'll be more of a frost bomb than a nuke)
-Cryogenic Gas Missile (Icy Flamethrower)

-Freezing Shockwave (Big freezing shockwave)
-Freezing Cannon Ball
-Cryo Bullet (Freezing Bullet)

is it to late?

willthealmighty ur deffinition of love is only possible if, hangf on let me wrk this out :
you need a tri of the most powerfull military production lazers avaliable on your tri *point* scope the spyder +800 (+750 would do but is not currently in production anymore)
and you are at 28.9 meters above sea level, your target being at one meter above sea level. to accomodate for the earths curve.
the worlds longest ranged mobile artilery unit has a 5.12 km range, recorded 8.2 with extremely favorable wind.
to *put your target in your aiming recepticle* is to say a stright shot, im not going to work out the power needed for that,

and therefore the odds are as you say, *long* , in the same way that shooting a random rifle into the air has the same chance of hitting the target via coincidental wromhole.

EDIT
----

was going to enter, cant , making map, but did give me a very cool idea

Thank you for inspiriting me. I guess I will join this competition. I had lost hope after my acid nova got rejected but I guess if a master like you likes this then I will try to do some more effects. I myself am a big fan of your work JetFangInferno.

Pyritie, I use Camstasia 3 (You can DL the trial version), capture the video and save it as .amv, then I open up an animation program like Jasc Animation and save the file as a .gif and I'm done.

@Nbah, that looks really nice, keep up the good work =)

I got a .wmv of it. Does ImageReady CS2 work with that?

Okay here are two gifs of Iceberg and Cone of Cold.

I really don't like the orange squiggles in iceberg.

Submission time!

I don't have much to add, so here it is. Make sure to test them INGAME (model editors don't show them properly).

WILLTHEALMIGHTY's Winter Wonderland SFX Pack!

Contains:
Comet.mdx
CryoGasMissile.mdx
FrostAura.mdx
FrostWall.mdx
FrostWave.mdx
IceBlock.mdx
IceBlockMissile.mdx
IceSparks.mdx
IceSpheres.mdx
SnowCannonBall.mdx
Snowmissile.mdx
Snowstorm.mdx

Do not modify any of these without permission, and give credits or I'll freeze your ass to a freaking comet.

JetFang's are mostly based on in game SFX's to the best of my knowledge; that's why they aren't very unique and pretty repetitive. There are some things that you've (JetFang) made however that are very impressive.
