Indeed, we didn't have a lot to show recently. The alliance "alignment" system is being worked on. As well we have a mostly complete plane system ready.
To be honest, I'd rather see some annoucements or some showoff by Fingolfin or Vuorma instead of useless spam around here...
The mod doesn't even seem dead to Me because of thread inactivity. Im pretty sure it will just get on when You'll release the map.
It's not that the project have been standing still, it is just we who have been very bad at posting the update progress since it has been mostly boring things related to terrain. The map is so close to completion that it becomes very hard for me and vuorma to focus on the subtle details that still remain.
Here is a list at some recent updates we've been having:
*Added terrain for canadian cities including Toronto, Quebec City, and Montreal. Also started on terraining Labrador and especially prominent areas such as the lake Manicouagan. Canada will serve as the main oil reserve for the atlantic US player.
*Finally remodeled the Bofors AT-gun model that was earlier lost in reformat. It is a fast but weak assault gun especially good for flanking.
*Implemented the ship turret rotation system. It still needs a lot of work though and might not be in the beta.
*Finalized most of the north african theatre. All cities present except one are now properly terrained. Also added some terrain for the mesopotamian area including iraq and present israel/palestine.
Jerusalem:
Bagdad:
Alexandria:
*Reworked the border between Finland and the Soviet Union. It is now more historically accurate and features a new, thin connection between Murmansk and the rest of the country (good work Vuorma).
*The Ardennes are now a second viable passage for invading france, and does not have any initial defenses. However, it has large debuffs for vehicle movement speed due to the rough terrain.
*All American cities have now been reterrained.
Washington, kinda.
*A new automatic hint system is being worked on to give players support based on whatever flaws are in their playstyle.
You are all right in that we have had delay after delay, so i suggest you all log on to the forums and check on a new thread in the beta section that i'm about to create. In there you will be asked to type down dates and times at which you will be able to play the week after this (after the 13'th of march). I honestly don't care if we're finished by then, we'll just play with what we've got since it has proven to be really fun regardless.
This map isn't dead, I can tell that Fin and Vuor are both working really hard on the project, and are making good progress (Love the pictures Fin!), apparently they're just adding more of our requests and things that could be added, right now, it happens to be even more active than some other maps I know of. Nice job guys
I really like those building models. I also like how you included the German Flak 88 in the game. Do you have any features that are inspired by the game Company of Heroes?

Not really, we are more inspired by the games "Soldiers: Heroes of WW2" and "Men of War", and ofcourse the original World in Flames. I was also quite inspired by Ham Hams map, but very few of his features ended up in this.
There is no unit cap.
We will only include one if we find that people build up huge armies that causes the game to lag. We've had no problems so far however despite ridiculous unit counts.
EDIT: Sdkfz transport has now been added; the gernan techtree is now complete, save for the engineer class!
Some pics:
EDIT: I had predicted much greater response to this.
Why haven't all of the beta testers voted for a beta date in the forum? We could have beta test almost right away if only people would respond. I don't want to set a date and then only have ascartes show up (he is the only one who posted in the thread).
can leaders be heroes like hitler gets overthrown and he becomes forced to become a german rebel soldier fighting to reclaim Nazi germany from france or someone.
That would work like most WW1/WW2 risk maps, they would just give some crap buffs. Imho if You really wanted to invent some stuff like that then My propose is adding officers, just a sugestion.
I have decided to frequently update our progress in the WiF forums from now until the release of the map, so that hopefully you guys won't loose interrest in the map.
Here is a link to the development section for those who are interrested.
- Sdkfz 251 Armored Troop Transport
- Sherman M4 Medium Tank
- M3 Armored Troop Transport
- Minor Allied/Minor Axis
- PaK 40:
- M7 Priest Self Propelled Artillery
I really need these
(ps: who made it? )
a idea:
Ah, theese meshes and textures look really nice (they were made by valve), but the animations were pretty awful. I would also recommend the creator to make the guns into attachments instead, so that you don't have to import a new soldier model for each weapon variation. :O
Regardless, great to hear that we are getting more WW2 maps for warcraft.
I made all the models you mentioned, but we won't release them before the map is released. Hopefully that won't be too long though, we are having our first beta test next weekend and the pace of the creation has increased the last couple of weeks (we were in a bit of a dip during the winter).

you too =) (wow you are a epic modeler )
yeah about the models, they just need some animations fixes
did you will make Goliath for your map?
(PS;these soldier models doesn't have owner, so you can edit as you wish)
The uploader on that site claims himself that the models were made by valve. They are not so hard on other people using their models though, and they did give credits, so i guess it's ok. I'll stick with my own models for this map however.
We could have the goliath as a kind of unit that has an aura that slowly kills enemy mines around it, my only concern is that the unit would have to be very small not to be mistaken for a tank, and the unit might also be obsolete considering you can use infantry equally well. It is very hard to design a role for it that won't reduce the need for infantry and won't make it exploitable as a scouting unit, but i wil give it some think i guess.

Fingolfin, im using NFWar parabola missile system.
i'm using on Bullet mode. it is prety realistic, the shot can hit ground, miss ,hit obstacles, sand bags, exactly like Company of Heroes.
if you want, I send you the beta of the System
@ .VTZ. : It is a bit overkill to use in this map, considering there will be hundreds of units playing out at once, but you can PM it to me regardless incase i should need it for some other map.
@James7: I'm not too pleased with the british terrain myself, though frankly i don't know what do to about it. I think i'm going to add some more woodland but that is all i can think of. ofcourse there will be some airfields to fill it up once those are done too.
And btw, LOL at your avatar! That is pretty awesome.
Wow, seriously this looks so awesome that I can't even say a word. This project just looks great when I look at the whole structure. You've made a really good and huge piece of job.
Im glad to beign one of those who tracked this since beginning. I hope You enjoy making whole stuff for this map. I can't do anything more than just stand up and clap, this is melting my emotions *rips tears off* just kiddin' so Im pretty sure that this one will get on 1st place of HW's ranking when uploaded.
Keep the great work, good luck, have fun and thank You guys.
