I have started in reforged, I suppose I'll continue and just see how things turn out I obviously have to limit how much HD is on the screen at once for lag reasons but if I get a good terrain result and no lag I'll make sure to submit it :)

What is a UI wrapper? Are you referencing a UI skin?

Assuming all goes well this will be my first WIP. I'm creating a dynamic spell creation system - this is the first spell I've made with it, fun enough it can even suck up and nullify other projectiles from the system - but I probably won't be able to use that practically since it takes a lot of system resources to calculate all that and I only know GUI so my efficiency is limited :p

I don't think it's up to me who are judges. The arena guidelines says that the arena moderators should pick judges. I can influence their choice, but ultimately I have no say in it.

Gonna play them all anyways, so it's no big deal.

WIP No. 2. I am really liking how this is turning out if I may say so myself.

IMPO:

I think the animate dead effect doesn't fit here, knockback effect doesn't work for me - maybe something way smaller..
I love the terrorblade model usage here - the terrain is amazing.

Remember that this was an early preview :p I have basically only focused on the terrain for 2 days straight, and barely touched any of the systems that is implemented. Now I'm gonna get some sleep and start with the hero system tomorrow. The two abilities you see are just two ideas I had. The knockback stays though, I love it. I'm gonna make it possible to knock ground units out of the platforms, instantly killing them. Idea came from @xYours Trulyx :p

Looks really good, didn't know Warcraft 3 could handle Diablo 3 assets that well.

Great, can't wait to see it done. You could make it possible to walk off of the platform - insta death (I always use this) but it's up to you.

So my first screen from progressing. Need many things and recreate terrain but i want to show that i progressing too. Enjoy view from outside of Mines.

Little WIP. Might yet shrink the size of the playable map to reduze needed time for terraining.

Well you asked what kind of units they were, not where to find the models :p Anyway, I don't have the link at hand right now as I'm at work but they can be found on Chaosrealm. If you can't find them I will see if I find them again and send you the link.
 
The contest is too quick, this should span for two months atleast, even if this is just a mini-RPG contest.
You can probably whip together a mini RPG in like a week since there are so many public systems.
Admittedly this would require 6 hours a day but still
Well I built most of the terrain in my map in 2 days xd I did however spend maybe 12-14 hours each days those two days, but still, it is very much possible.

If however enough people aren't done by the end of the contest we can ask for an extension. It's not guaranteed to be approved though.

It depends on what you're going for. I'm using techniques and "systems" (although they are not systems really, more like gameplay mechanics) I've used before and simplified them, meaning I was able to rebuild them very quickly. I had my core mechanics ready in about 8 hours, including combat (abilities), questing, npc interacting, crafting and items. Terrain is actually the one thing taking lots of time, but if you're clever and use space wisely you can be done quickly too.

I'm going for a detailled terraining route so if one would go for something simpler, he would be able to finish it rather quickly (took me about 10-15 hours to get 60% done).

Texts and "Scripting" I'm doing on the run, which goes rather quickly if you're creative.

I would like to participate. I will try to do something based on demons, hell, etc. (yeah, inspired on yhe SFX contest) Also, being as terrible as i am (3/10, i think) on terrains and cinematics, I am open to colaborations. Maybe two weak ones can make a stronger one...
At last, is necessary or recommended create and use new systems as on Path of devotion (an entry of the last mini-mapping contest)?

It is always better to use certain systems rather than reinventing the wheel. Most people will do a worse or equal job even if they tried

Some experienced people maybe can outdo the standard system, but given the time restriction I would not suggest that either way.

Only reason to make your own stuff is if you are using one of the newer languages that do not have a published system for everything.
 
I haven't been able to work that much this week due to work and stuff, but now the weekend is finally here :D

Got some work done on the hero. It's not done, but it's a good baseline;
Good use of sounds and the Hero looks interesting.

You should try to fix the stuttery movement animation of the Hero though.

Yeah this has been fixed since the making of the video you saw. Wasn't harder than just adjusting the walk speed animation a bit.

I already finished 3 Hero abilities. They are the 3 (Fire, Fury and Death options) abilities that you can choose on lvl 1. I actually have to do other 9 abilities (lvl 3,6 and 10). On the other levels, you can obtain +3 to all stats (and the +2 default) or +250 HP and +6 damage points. Also, on that levels your abilities will automatically level up (the 1 and 3 abilities have 3 levels, the 6 ones have 2 levels, and, of course, the lvl 10 one can't be updated). Now, I will stop the Hero creation, and create every enemy of the first zone (stopping with the first boss) I will send another WIP on that moment.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot this message and writted another one. Now, I deleted it and I will say that here:

Okay, I've finished the first boss (and all the enemies behind him). Now, i need to know. Is allowed by rules an ability that just summon a unit (reason why it wouldn't be a triggered spell) but with other spells you can change it (per example, other ability who allows you to update the beast you summon with specifical conditions)?

I'm wondering that too! I think I might've misunderstood one of the rules, hehe.

You are NOT allowed to use spells already available at the spells section or from any other Warcraft 3 modding site

I read that as spells like War Stomp, Tranquility, etc - spells that can be found in the main game. I got that we are supposed to create new abilities, but I thought we could still use existing spells as bases for our own abilities? Like Water Elemental for a summoning spell, but use triggers to mask it and make it more interesting. Or maybe a Thunder Clap with different effects, values, etc and then build upon it with triggers. If such custom spells aren't allowed, I fear that I'm pretty screwed :D

I think you have to. After all, we can't just create all our spells using Channel. I understood that rule as a limitation to the importing of spells from websites, and this:
You must create at least one completely custom hero with triggered spells
as a rule that forces us to create at least one trigger for each spell. I don't have problem with that, but there is a lot of work :grin:

Edit: At least, If I have only one hero with 12 spells, the 12 still having to be triggered? This would answer my question about the summoning spell too.
