After some time of thinking and searching, I must agree with this. Who the hell still plays melee maps, or other good maps?? Almost nobody. While 80% people play that !"#$ DotA, others play even worse shit, naruto or other chinese maps...
EDIT: So basically, it turns out that about 5% people play melee maps, which is the real warcraft. Try to find a guy, who sees an abomination, and does not say that it's pudge from dota. Will give you 5K Dollarz.
lol the funny thingabout that is that modders mding the Wc3 game have actually worked harder overall and one of those people are icefrog but I agree that the tards that think dota = Wc3 are tards and should be punished
.
Want me to help?
LOL =D it's not a default ability those dumb asses....Yeah i once made a map..im sure it would get rejected here but it was long ago.anyway i showed it to my friends, used model files of DoTA heroes, and said oh look its Pudge!,can you use hook?
I hope think those people cant even win the tutorial
Yea I mean DotA ain't a bad map, but I just hate those people who think Dota=WC3 and Pudge is a popular AoS abomination name, like DotA means Defense of The Ancients but you have to kill the Lich King who was created bout 10,000 years after like the World Tree was created after the War... DotA makes no sense
But (on-topic now) it does make WC3 last longer, which gives modders a chance to put their maps on B.Net and/or Garena thus replacing DotA... I just hope DotA lives long enough using WC3 until something better comes that fascinates people

Or if you guys ever heard of Fight Of Character, It is an anime map which is popular on my region, and totally imbalance. Try playing it.
But it did raise wc3's rating.
No. I meant a non tard player, who knows that dota =/= wc3, and who plays dota. Yes, he must play it, and yet, recognize abomination. Can you find that player?
Note: It MUST be an active DotA player.
So, if we view it in a positive sense, I do agree with Sky Green, DotA is a stepping stone to introduce other (More) awesome maps to the community, to an even bigger audience.
With that, I rest my case, Warcraft III will grow.
how can you play melee maps and dota???? lol
DotA causes rage, addiction, unlike melee maps.
You forgot comedy, some maps can make you laugh but not allI do admit that the logic Warcraft III mapmaking is rather... Strange. But throughout the times, even now, different maps start to attract new players and even older ones to Warcraft III for some reason.
Take my friend for example, he recently bought Warcraft III with his other friends because of their liking to the Undead Assault map (It's very decent, I'd say) whenever they play it in the internet cafe.
I've kinda noticed a few trends that players display when choosing a map to play, so these could be the many reasons why different maps are unexpectedly getting so popular:
Logical Reasons
1. Good Map Quality
Well, it seems quite obvious why, as players love playing maps who are made fairly well and suitable for gameplay.
2. Interesting Map Genre
Generally, most players tend to look to newer map genres instead of the same old ones (Remember how DotA dominated the AoS scene), so maps with new styles of playing can suit their needs too.
3. Good Old Genres
Basically these are the types of maps which completely contradict what I mentioned earlier, but for good reasons. Maps which bring back good memories or even nostalgia to players tend to get players interested with them (For games like Pac Man, etc).
4. Popular Games Or Game Genres
Some players also prefer to choose the popular side of gaming, where games are played with map genres similar to those which are popular (For example, AoS, TDs, Mauls). Most of them gain more popularity with more eye candy, new features or less lag. Also, characters from famous games or stuff also are seen in those maps (Pudge Wars, POTM Wars).
5. Computer Specs
Speaking of less lag, if a map is decent and doesn't cause much lag, I wouldn't mind playing it either.
6. Role-Playing Games
A lot of people I know love role playing for some reason, so this could also be one of the reasons why people love playing these games, as anything can happen in game as long as they have an imagination.
7. MMORPG Games
For people who love spending lots of time training and leveling a character or something up, this would be their preference. Ever since the Save/Load system was introduced, I've seen these kind of maps hosted all over.
8. Thinking Games
I know of people who love to think a lot, so much that they would even prefer to play Riddle Games or Chess instead of the usual War ones, this is also another reason.
9. Lore Games
Well, these are the hardcore lore lovers. Whether it's the Warcraft Lore or the Lord Of The Rings Lore, they would definitely try it out, I'm one of those people.
10. Real Time Strategy
Anything with an army, a base and a whole lot of micro-ing, these people would love a lot. I've seen these maps prosper a lot during all my years of playing.
Reasons That Don't Freaking Make Sense To Me
1. Rick Rolls
Why? I don't know, they just love them.
2. Anything That Involves Blood, Gore Or Obscene Acts
Well, sadists are everywhere, and these maps do prosper.
3. Maps With 1337 Speak And Bad Quality
How would I know?
4. "Don't Push The Button" Games
Some people are just really bored at times.
5. Unedited "Just Another Warcraft III Map" Or Stolen Maps
I've seen these maps being hosted a lot, and for unknown reasons, they are still being hosted.
These are the current things I know of, I might update it.
it's so popular that people think they are the best just because of getting "Killing spree" or "Godlike",well playing the repititive dota is bad,you know why, because they become micro noobs, they can only micro 1-3 units, well other melee map pros can control a 12 unit army or zeppelin micro (But thats fricken hard to do),they think they are Uber just because they win using only 1 hero.
Dota is pure hack and slash, no real awesome micro, it f*cks up the Warcraft 3 story, and the dota fans think there is a story..by making videos called "DotA Story mode" or any of those fake videos.
P.S. im using my laptops touch pad,my mouse isnt working properly lately
So far it is the only map that is played at the high competitive level and that pretty much denies all of your arguments. Like 90% of the maps are about controlling one hero/unit. But it looks like it is always a good idea to bash Dota for it.

I support that statement greatly too, I can see Warcraft III being quite stable on a daily basis and there are even new players coming in frequently around my estate.

Real Warcraft ones, they happen to love the mechanics of the Undead and Night Elven race for some reason, kinda which was what dragged them into buying the game officially and finding out about other custom maps.
well you know. you can't really help it, unless you make a map, which will be as popular as dota is now.
Then "IT" Will be the next menace and not DOTA
