Ralle, I have a question about capabilities of XenForo.

Is it possible to make a nice touch on commenting system what Blizzard uses on their forums?
If you select text on someone's comment, you can quote that text with a press of a button. Would be really nice to see this implemented on hive :3

oh, wow that is amazingly cool. That should be possible to replicate. When everything is up and running, I will definitely look into doing that. That is just too cool not to have :)

Nice, this XenForo sounds very promising. :) I'll look forward to this function.

By default XenForo has pop-over forum descriptions, but if nobody likes that, I think it would be simple to change it.
With descriptions, it does look better, but what's with the removal of wc3 icon borders? T.T Not that it does a huge difference, but it just looks random.
And please do keep the ale icon on Off-Topic! Better yet, use wc3sear.ch's! — or a modified version of it to fill in the black space with leaking ale or bubbles for example!

I don't know if it's just me, but, with the exception of the Skins and Maps (not visible) icons, this forum style still appeals to me:

Just a theme. The button is a dropdown menu which contains other options (such as models, textures, etc). Trust Archian on this.
Sure, but I think it should also influence forums shown, their ordering or something to make the forums of that game a bit more visible.

A change is never a bad thing, I myself get tired of looking at the same thing for a long time. As a minor member here (which views THW on daily basis) I think this is one of the best decisions you could make!. And judging from what I understand of the screenshots, it seems to be a decent upgrade to THW, an upgrade that it deserves.
Good luck to the team working on the changes, and may you surprise us asap ^_^

@flad: Yeah, that looks awesome indeed! I hope it doesn't get into the optional Low Graphics Style. :D

You know there is plenty of room on a 1920x1080 screen for a 1.5x or 2x size profile bar on the left side :p
How many people have that as a resolution? I know I don't. Not on my monitor at least, and I'm not going to sit on my couch to read forums on my TV.

^this. Downscaling an image isn't even that painful if you downscale it by it's divisor, eg. usually 2, 3 or 5. In our case 2 is perfect.

Plus, most screens you can buy nowadays are 1920x1080 for desktops, and laptops either come with 1366x768 or 1920x1080. If yours is neither, time to get a new PC (or screen of you have a good PC, but I doubt anyone would play on an 8-core 4GB VGA computer with a 800x600 screen).

Not to mention that even the current profile bar could hold a 150x150 image. stretch it just a bit and there you go for 200x200.

Also, the screenies are 980x600, double the size for an HD screen with a bit smaller image (300x300 is still an overkill I guess looking at that picture, but 200x200 is acceptable for double screen size imo)

There are resolutions between 800x600 and 1080. And I don't need a new computer because my monitor doesn't support 1080.

1366x768 and 1600x1200 are the most used apart from HD nowadays - for the former, you can use 150x150 pics and for anything inbetween, 100x100 for lower than 1366x768, and 200x200 for anything over 1600x1200. 1600x1200 can be either, but 200x200 fits into that imo and downscaling by 3/4 is always messy.

But that's only one case. You can go with:
Code:
 800x600 - 1366x768	100x100	100x100
1366x768 - 1600x1200	100x100	150x150
1600x1200 - 1920x1080	200x200	300x300
(Upper value inclusive)

Point is, noone forces Ralle to not downscale the images, and use bigger ones generally.
Also, hopefully we'll get a bit more flexibility for signatures ^^ Like current signature height+extra bit if table or tabbed signature is used, so you can fit them in even with the header's added height

So I'd get 100x100, as I use hive aero snapped. (Have 1080p)

Same here, that's why I agree with RED_BARON about the auto-scaling thing. Mine's set to 1028x768.

My policy on this: don't change what doesn't need changing, as it just turns worse.

I'm more of a mind that without change the world becomes a mighty boring place, but hey,
I'm not going to intrude upon your opinions, you get to keep them for yourself.

Huh, that's very person-dependable

Not really, no. A very frustrating image, or a very beautiful image, will subconsciously either distract you or irritate
you while you try focusing on something different, as long as it's also visible simultaneously with the text.

I was talking of a background image appearing once after the wall, not iterating limitless times like the current profile background pictures.

Well, pardon me for misunderstanding, cause that was
exactly what I got from reading your text. Oh well...

Well, my 1024x768 screen is enough for me to mod and game. xD

Anyway, I think avatars look fine this way. I've browsed in 1920x1080 screens and I think they still look fine. Bigger avatar + bigger sigs would just look way messy.

If Ralle would implement bigger sigs or avatars, I suggest giving an option to hide avatars and sigs. (Correct me if this suggestion is already implemented)
There are times where I'd rather read the user's actual post rather than stare at their signatures.

EDIT: 1,500 posts. :D

Okay, time to make myself clear:

What I proposed was the option to upload higher quality avatars, and downscale them depending on the screen size, with no scaling at 1080p. By downscale, I don't mean autosize: reducing an image's size by a random % results in ugly distortions. I'd rather fix the size for certain screen widths. So if you have a screen that's 1440px or 1366px wide, you get a 150x150 icon, and 100x100 for anything under.

1080p can be either 200x200 (better for fitting) or 300x300 (better for downscaling, since it can be divided by both 2 and 3)

I understand why you choose Xenforo since you're currently using VBulletin and there really is no future there... however why not consider using Invision Power Board which is clearly better and has been around for over 10 years.

It's obviously going to be expensive at this point to switch since you already have Xenforo however if you get a guy like me with everything for IPB, you'd realize it'd be a much better choice. :xxd:

I think it looks great. I have enjoyed this website for years now (without posting a whole lot) and I think this is very exciting. Thanks for staying great!
