Tips for new players

• Use your "Run" (Q) ability if you get in trouble, but use it wisely because it drains your stamina (Lumber resource)! If you get tired you can't run anymore.
• Build your first campfire before the end of the first day! Without good clothing you will get cold and likely to get sick! Keep your campfire lit by placing any kind of wood or coal in it's inventory.
• Your next goal should be to create a Shelter. This is a very important building because there you can deposit your excess food, contributing to the victory condition. The other important feature of a shelter is that you can revive your Caveman after death. Remember: you need 100 Food reserve (Gold resource) to revive him!
• Don't forget to use your "Forage" ability on trees and bushes to get meterials. You can use "Glean" anywhere to obtain items, or find animal tracks.
• If you have an axe in your inventory, you can give attack orders on trees! Cutting down a tree can give you all the wood you need! You can cut bushes as well.
• Use your 'Horn of Dread' ability to escape from any kind of danger, but it has a long cooldown, so use it as a last resort!
• At the start of the game you may want to avoid the north-eastern side of the map, as there lives a tribe of cannibals, they would prove to be a difficult opponent. (But if you manage to defeat them, you can take their food reserves)
• All plants are useful for making potions, they may seem useless at first, but a potion can make the difference between victory and defeat! You need to use a mortar to prepare these ingredients before you can make potions.
• If you decide to start mining, you need to have a pick in your inventory, and you have to issue an attack order on a slightly red tinted rock. If you find Obsidian, you can craft powerful weapons!

It's a great map with many refined features. I was kind of hoping the arrow keys would rotate the camera, since things get in the way of the camera from time to time and movement can be done with the mouse anyway. I love the concept of crafting from resources I collect and being able to use those same resources in a pinch (like reusing stones or eating raw food).

I was enjoying the game until I only stopped moving for an instant and ended up auto-attacking a mammoth. I assumed it killed me since I was already on low life, but the game crashed with an error message.

I know this error, its caused by the "recovery" (reincarnation) ability, and i will remove it in the next patch and replace with something better. :)

This maps looks great :D i love the way the map is but something i would recomend is that changing the music since it does not really fit for the map theme and the concept but otherwise this is a great job! :ogre_haosis:

You're welcome! ^ ^
Its a very cool map and i see that you have one of the cave men's name as creb which i guess that you got from the movie "The clan of the cave bear" ?
Either way keep on making it and improve! :)
something i now did notice when i was playing is that when i died from attacking a diatryma is that a shadow of the character was flying to the corner of the map as my things was droping there.Do you have skype ?

Looks pretty good.

Suggestions:
  • Add an option to use the regular camera.
  • When there is a tree between your character and the camera, you should hide it / make it transparent.
  • Add an option to automatically pick up items when you run over them. The combination of the arrow key camera with it moving when you click on items is very visually jarring.
  • As has been suggested by Tickles, you should add an option for arrow keys to rotate the camera instead of moving the character. Left/Right rotates, Up/Down changes angle of attack.
  • Add some sort of bag or inventory system. Inventory gets full really quickly, especially since your 6 slots are also used by equipment.
    • Weapons could be equipped by clicking them, removing them from your inventory but providing a bonus. Equipping a new weapon to an already used slot would move the old weapon back into your inventory.
    • Materials could be placed in a multiboard inventory. You could take this idea further by giving each item a weight and/or size, thereby limiting inventory size by character strength or bag size.

I would have liked to play it a bit further, but with the camera constantly spinning around to behind a tree it gets annoying. While it's nothing new, your map already has good depth and amount of content, so it has much potential.

Hello! Thanks for testing my map! :)
Your first suggestion is totally right, and i actually wanted to give the players the possibility to use the default camera.
I dont think i can make the trees transparent, but if it bothers you, you can still play with the default camera settings.
The automatic pickup system is a good idea! I'll see to it.
Actually there is a bag system in the game, you can craft 2 type of bag, where you can store 5 and 10 items, and multiboard inventory is not necessary on my opinion^^
Thank you for your suggestions!

When I play again I'll definitely be using the regular camera, but I think you should still see if you can do something about those trees for the sake of people that will be using the default arrow key system.

Some ideas:
  • Hide the destructible for the local player, I'm not sure if this will cause a desync or not but this would be the easiest.
  • Make trees units instead of destructibles. This will be a bit of work to change your abilities around, but it makes it a bit easier. Use animation - change unit vertex color to make the trees transparent. Do this for local player, this one I know won't desync.

Keep up the good work, I'll definitely play it again in a week or two.

Hello, Great map and nice visuals but u have 1 huge bug. Or more of a misstake. There is this thing called camera bounds. In normal wc3 it's not rly noticed. But in your map as you got 3d person view the camera cant go to the world bounds is actually stoped a little bit earlier. Fix it and the map is genius. Keep up the good work!

Played the game a few times but we didn't play long because of a few things that annoyed me and some could be improved incl suggestions.
1. Camera- is buggy, sometimes it is locked then it goes free even if you don't press esc. Not to mention that trees sometimes block the camera or when you are using cursor to move your character
2. Backpacks/Sacks- are hard to use and is practically impossible to swap weapons through this feature.(I suggest using backpacks similar to wilderness survival if you don't mind)
3. Autoloot - is pointless and annoying. the very limited backpack space can't accommodate having autoloot. The horrors of dropping an item that you don't need is unbearable. (If you don't get what I mean, basically, when i drop items, autoloot picks them up.)
4. Items - are in scarcity, in my opinion but it's not much of a problem.

This map was just released with a approval of 4/5 already!?

Anytime another Wild map is released I hear about it for some reason. Most of the features work relatively the same as some of the other survival maps out there with some minor tuning & changes. Nothing is really new here to me other than the 3rd person view then again that's just my opinion.

[+] Positives
Great Atmosphere
Great Animations
3rd Person Approach (Smooth Cam)

[-] Negatives
Map size already at 7.42 MB!
No RPG elements (Map labeled as RPG)
Map Leaks Heavily
Contains Bugs (Units getting stuck but aren't really there to begin with)
Resources are too far apart
Resources (craftable) cost heavy
3rd Person View: Line of Sight problems

Visually the map looks great but the layout is large & too open in most areas, it feels like large gaps of dirt to find resources, once you've learned the ropes I see no replay value here. There's not much to do & seems like a early stage of a map. I was excited to see something new brought to the table but all of these ideas are original & used. Seeing how the map is well over 7MB I'm not sure what else this could offer unless there's a plan to go beyond that.

This map needs improvements I don't agree with a 4/5

Map size seems good to me, its not That Heavy as you think. This map has great looks and mechanics and has a fantastic camera angle with great models and features. All these tools of good quality costs more than 5M with simple reasons of merit and good creativity. I know there are alot of people who has problems during downloading, but 5 M?!? Give than map creator a cookie ;)

Rebuilding modern strategy games

This map is making a bridge to rebuild modern strategy games. I've played so many strategy type maps, but this one is different it includes both intelligence in terrain/model designs and trigger functions.I THANK YOU ONE FOR DOING THIS MAP.

I love this map, because I'm a Survival map lover. But u should read this :

Bugs:
- items that can't be created altough u have required resources as displayed in the recipes :
1. Obsidian spear in the Weapon Crafting table
2. 'Bag' (store 10 items) in the Crafting table
3. Cauldron and Large Tent in the Tannery table
(Bag and Cauldron has the same recipe, it's weird)

Questions n advices:
- Snake is really hard to find. May be in the entire map which trees n bushes is spreading, those damn creature only came up 1 or 2. Its more easier to find mammoth than snake. Is it normal?
- I always use free camera mode instead of locked camera, because it doesnt make me have headache for playing in long hour. And I think its right to make trees blurred when our cavemen walk between the trees, so we dont have a blind spot.
- There is no fishing pole when theres a river and lake with much of fish. Add a simple fishing pole, so its more fun beside catching a fish just using throwing spear, bow or just pursue the fish with axe in hand.
- The cooldown of pumpkin bowl when getting a water is too long.
- I think u should make a different use of fur and hide among the animal because it needs different effort to kill each one. This bring u to make advanced more items especially in the tannery with various stats.
- Add more items because your map is still lack on items variation for Survival map. I just get bored when playing in 5 times. Add more weapon and utility stuff.
- The terrain need more detail because its almost flat. But the atmophere is nice. Make it more darker when the night comes and add more dangerous at night (not only wolf, but i think u should add 'bloodthirsty bat' that comes only at night as a treat. adding sound of roaring wolf or hyena is cool right?)
- I don't get the meaning of "freezing wind coming from the north." Yeah I know its just sugar for the coffee. Theres just random rain and falling snow. Do u know that i wanna play this map bcause of that sentence? Imagine if there's a calendar that player can check and knowing that 'The Winter' will end up in X days and the great blizzard comes to end your life in this map.. so it adds another tensions.
- How can u make a slingshot lost its ammo for just one shot..? It makes no different with throwing a rock then. And also net. Bow sometimes lost the arrow when used, ok I can accept it.

I think theres another thing i wanna write, but i forgot.
Ok may u consider for updating ur map..

Hello!
Thank you for the constructive criticism! :)

I fixed the tooltip and recipe mistakes.

-Snakes: there are just a few snakes left, because its autumn in the game, and they are not respawning, because they will brumate during the late autumn and the winter ^^
-Camera system: yeah i suggest you to use the default, the third person cam system can be frustrating sometimes, but its better looking and adds to the atmosphere
-Fishing: its recommended to use the net, i dont plan to make a fishing system so far, maybe later.
-Pumpkin Bowl: I decreased the cooldown .
-Item variation: I could add even more items, but i would like to keep my map as simple as possible to avoid the confusion.
-Terrain: In the first place i wanted to make a totally randomized map and this is why the terrain is so flat.
I will upload a new map based on this, with custom terraining soon (not sure when)
-Slingshot and ranged weapons: You can use the throwing stones as ammo for the slingshot, which have more range and deals more damage .
If you lose your ammo or net sometimes, dont worry it is not bug, you can't use just one bundle of arrows in the whole game.

And you are right about that the map lacks of objectives to achieve.
I will deinitely make a main quest and a timer.

why i can't make a cauldron but i has what its need

This mistake has been fixed. :)

I can't upload the updated version because the Survivor mapping contest has not ended yet, please be patient!

Thaelran, is it normal for the net to disappear when used? Like when you use it, kill the beast, but the net disappears as if it was never crafted. It happened to me several times, it doesn't matter if I kill aerial or land "game". Also, is the crafting table's skill, Disassemble supposed to break a crafted item to it's components or just destroy it? Cuz in my case, when i disassemble an item of any kind - be that packed up structure, a weapon, or a tool - it always destroys them.

The missiles and nets can be lost when used, so sometimes you can craft these stuff again.
The Disassemble destroys the items, and gives some of the components back.
You didnt get anything back from your crafted item?

I tried with an Axe, a Tent (packed) and a Crafting Table (packed), the items were gone, but no materials remained behind... As for the projectiles, arrows i understand, but crafting a net over and over is a waste of time and material. My net remained only on the first 3 kils after i downloaded the map. After that i had to waste precious resource just to get the first arrows. I would recommend lowering the net material requirements a bit, since it could become unused if everyone start crafting a new net after every kill.

Btw i dont think its a huge problem

That's not the only problem Game Disconnects on multiplayer and Arrow Movement is not working for me.

As for the boundary solutions:

1.) Try extending map boundary more and use trees or cliffs to block.

2.) use Region, When ever player goes out of Region boundary apply different angle camera.

Normally I prefer not to show boundaries on my maps it makes the game look well like a game, GoodLuck

hello thaelran,i had found some bug in the game:
1.cannot make some item although had the materials
2.bow and slingshot only can use one time, when shot bow it deals no damage and create a new arrow at target place without decreasing arrow amount in invetory(slingshot does deal damage)
3.i heard my friend say when he make heavy leather coat it turn out to be a heavy fur coat
4.the refine spell in tannery table seems to heavily bugged as it turn every item into fur/leather
5.tannery table can make infinite leather/fur bug:
s=space h=hide/fur l=leather/fur

s l
h s
s s

And i recommended you to add:
1.animal cage:made of sticks and branches, can be use by putting small animals like grouse and rabbit into it and wait it multiply(breed)
2.slingshot:changed to make small animals into an item(caught rabbit, grouse)to be able to put them into the animal cage
3.crocodile/alligator:make river passing difficult and it drops croc/alligator leather, meat, tooth when killed(make it harder than other animal but less harder than mammoth)
4.cave:player can hide in cave to avoid cold and most weather effect, but it is darker than other places(fog effect)and have some dangerous things like scorpion, cave bear.and inside the cave player can build stuffs and catch cave fish at cave lake.
5.more animals:scorpions(in cave),cave fish,alligator,spider(harmless,in cave),cockroach(harmless,in cave),cannibals(sure,didnt see any ingame before,and they wield weapons,armours)
6.add fog effect to game at daytime and nighttime(dawn:slightly bright than night, noon:very bright, dusk:darker than daytime, night:superdark, only can see with torches)
7.more items:food,light sources,weapons,buildings(rotate able)

Good luck for this map :D

Maybe bug maybe not but I can not create a big bag having all the pieces and when I click on it, it shines with the wall craft together
Also arrows picking up system is bugged.Sometimes it gives 10 instead of 1 and sometimes nothing.

The best house in the game is bugged as well.
Althrough it had a nice atmosphere and I spent many hours with pleasure.

I think the spawn point is a little bit off. I played for 4 rounds. 3 rounds we were beside wolf hive, bird hive and mammoth hive,, 2-3 spawns of the same kind. We get rekt pretty fast early. Although we might get away with using the skill to repel for 5 second and run, it waste too much energy.
I suggest spawn point should be safe for the first night, and strong animals spawn later in the game like 2nd or 3rd night depending on how strong they are.

Autopickup is very problematic, it keeps picking the same thing back up, how to disable it?
BUG: Creep camp toggle disable auto pickup but it disconnects all the other player. please fix it so it doesn't disconnect the rest.

Camera is buggy, it goes free sometimes even when esc is not pressed.
trees are blocking a lot of camera view.

Okay basically he said what I want to say

I like this map very much. I was planning this map before after releasing my survival map. The only issue here is the camera system. Sometimes it's hard to get items or getting into a specific location due to auto camera system. Based on their suggestions, you may fix the camera system or let people choose of the camera system of their choice. For me, I preferred to play a survival game without a camera. :) Anyway, you did very well. The sky system is pretty good! I like it very much. I have survival map too but it features tribes warfare and the setting is not prehistoric.

Alright, after playing this for several hours (more than I intended), here are my thoughts:

The map is very fun and engaging at first, but as the time progresses it becomes more of a chore due to the lack of scope and an annoying camera (and some bugs which I will discuss later).

Camera: It takes some time getting used to. While I appreciate the effort, Wc3 is not meant to be played in third-person like this and it shows. Movement is very confusing, getting back to your camp is much harder to do than it should, and overall navigation around the map is tiresome. Not to mention that the mini-map is rendered almost completely useless. I can't tell how many times I accidentally wondered into a creep camp when all I wanted to do was to reach my camp and get some heat. And if by some chance there were some big rocks behind me, they would be on my fucking face if I tried to turn. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, no need to reinvent the wheel here. Just use the normal camera like the Island Troll Tribes do (which I assume you borrowed a lot from).

Gameplay: Like I said, it was really enjoyable at first. I also enjoyed how interactive the environment felt by being able to gather resources from bushes, chopping down trees and even mining the rocks. That said, I ended up doing certain things far, far more than others. Almost anything in the game for example requires rope, which in turn requires two lianas. I spent almost half of my playtime just going through various bushes and killing them for lianas. There needs to be a certain proportion here. At the very least you could make 1 liana = 1 rope to make the daunting task of making rope slightly less asinine.

Second most annoying thing was the heat management. Until I made fur coat, boots and gloves, I was pretty much stuck at the camp for the whole night because every time I wanted to do something and venture out, I would be cold in a minute. Not to mention that the awkward camera makes the task of getting home worse than it needs to be. Needless to say being stuck doing nothing for one third of the time is not something you want in your game. Also, when I did return to the campfire the heat returned back at a snail's pace. Like seriously, two mana points per second. Why?

Finally, what really aggravated me is lack of cohesion in crafting/material management. So, I wanted to make a heavy leather coat. Most of the ingredients I already had, but I needed three teeth as well. But here's the kicker - you can't get it just anywhere. First I killed the herbivores that only dropped bone. Fair enough I said, I probably need to kill a carnivore. I kill a hyena but nothing. Nada. Zero. Then I killed the boar and I got indeed one tooth but I needed more. Few hours later and I decided I'd try and kill a sabre cat for its teeth since I found the lack of boars annoying. And while it wasn't easy I killed it only for it to drop... wait for it... sabrecat tooth! Which was unusable in the crafting recipe. Really? I had no other choice that to find more boars for the regular teeth. And when I finally did after many hours, I pressed to craft and I get a heavy fur coat instead! Ridiculous.

It's not the first bug I encountered in the game either. Earlier on, I had one fine fur in the second slot, and a fine leather in the third slot of the tannery. I pressed the button for fine materials and I got several fine leathers for free. I kept doing that for a while and it kept giving me unlimited supply of fine leather. Also, the game didn't allow me to create throwing stones, and every time I tried to disseminate an item, it simply got destroyed.

Overall this game has been entertaining for a while, but after a while it turns into a chore mostly for its awkward third person camera mode and lack of some quality-of-life mechanics that I explained above. Also, after a while there isn't much left to do since there isn't that many things you can create in the first place.
