Hi there. I am a big fan of ttor mod which represents my childhood. Is it possible for you to release an updated version with the original author noted? Great thanks for your dedication!

Huh, so, I was able to hack TToR to run on Patch 1.28 but the AMAI computer opponents didn't work and I never got it work on any version newer than that. The easiest way to play TToR is to play it on the patch for which it was made.

What version of the game are you using where you want to play this?

Also, as a very big caveat to this, I am not affiliated with the original authors of TToR in any way and only hacked their thing to run on 1.28 as a sort of thought experiment back when 1.28 was live to see if we could keep mods running. Hive site rules says if authors are offline for a very long time we can edit their stuff, but I am not convinced the copyright laws of my country are as lenient. Have you tried reaching out to the original authors of TToR? I have some recollection that the version on my computer that I played was not the latest version they ever released, so my version updated for 1.28 might actually be an "out of date" version of TToR.

I am playing classic 1.27b battle.net on Rubattlenet. The original author seems totally inactive these days though.

Oh yeah. I don't know if AMAI will work on 1.27 but you can use the exploit @leandrotp posted to bring back the typecasting from patch 1.21 and get all of the TToR jass scripts to run fine on 1.27 so that you can play TToR on 1.27. Like I said it worked for me on 1.28 so that's definitely possible.

It claimed that Microsoft couldn't program the game properly but after the video was made they programmed the game properly. I've no intention of being snide, I actually believed my criticism at the time I posted it, but it is no longer accurate.

That's cool. A video about Microsoft/current Blizzard's pros in the near future xD?
Okay, so they pushed me to use Claude Code for my job and I went ahead and got the highest tier subscription outside work to play with, and after using it for a couple weeks this definitely seems like a doomsday device. This is not Mythos that people talk about, I was only using Opus 1M or whatever. i asked it to build a model editor like Retera Model Studio and it did, I asked it to remake a strategy game that I had been working on since 2013 given only a description of gameplay and the original art files and it did that. Then i asked it to make a game based on a Warcraft 3 map RPG that I created in the year 2004 or something, without providing it the original map -- just a description -- and it did. In fact, I then went on for a couple of evenings walking around in this imaginary world as my RPG characters where I would walk around the world, have a new idea for how the game should be, describe the new idea in English, continue playing while I wait for the AI to work, log out of the game, log back in and see that what I described had been invented and added to the game -- art and all.

I briefly saw this recently as well. It is very curious. I'm interested to maybe read through its changes and formulate some opinions on whether I like them, but I haven't had the time yet.

Have you read through any of the actual code to see if it's good, or tried playing their version? It certainly leaves me interested in whether the person behind the AI bot has ulterior motives given that they seemingly wanted to change the project name to "OpenSnowstorm Warcraft 3" and are running other similar "OpenSnowstorm" projects.
    bear_369
    bear_369
I tried playing their version but the startup failed after failing to buffer some data for LibGDX(or OpenGL) so I guess the person behind it ultimately vibecoded their way through without actually testing their own build.

It's a shame really, the code changes look promising.

I second this. You're vague aspersions to us "making your posts disappear" is absolutely correct I deleted your replies and posts when you hijack people's threads to continue your conspiratorial and off-topic rants, Retera. You need to stop doing it, you know what you're doing and I don't believe for a second that you're not smart enough to know what you're doing. If you feel so strongly on these issues make your own threads but to be so selfish as to continuously hijack other people's threads to make it about yourself and your own project shows a gross disregard for others which is ironic considering the moral condemnation you cast on others.

Consider this you being put on notice. I've been more than patient and fair but now any further rule breaches will result in a ban.
My friend Retera, the RMS program you created has completely stopped working on my computer. It cannot read the Warcraft 3 Reforged resources (CASC) and keeps showing error messages on the screen saying an error has occurred. Please update your program.

I was able to test it in-game and everything works perfectly as I requested, but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it was great the way it was before (I'm referring to the level 1 base model that didn't have the side columns). It would have only been necessary to increase the height of the base, just like you did now, but I feel like the side columns are unnecessary. Even so, you fulfilled my request and it looks great, and I'm very grateful for that. Maybe later I'll try removing those side columns myself :)
Does anybody wonder if some of the Hive users are secretly people like Samwise Didier who simply understand the consequences of internet identity and who will accordingly never admit that that's who they are? I never really think about that much.

    Retera
    Retera
I suppose the likelihood of this is greatly reduced, however, by the fact that as people who took part in authoring the original 2002 game, they have a strong sense that they could simply make another one. Sort of like the Stormgate conceit. I suppose that would dramatically reduce respect for people who want to live in the past and try to make custom content for a specific decades old game that had been put out.
Hey, sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you could take a look at this MDL. I converted it from MDX with my tool, and it works in the model checker, but not in RMS. I fully compared my MDL output with what RMS shows for the original MDX, and I can't for the life of me find any differences.

Of course feel free to ignore this if you don't feel like it :p

    Somehow I overlooked these messages.

It's been tough with MDL because the RMS parser for MDL version 800 was based on files made with the Blizzard leaked converter from 2001. That allowed me to convert MDX files to MDL and vice versa, so that I could be fairly confident the MDLs that I was creating were valid and matched the game's supported MDL format as well.
    Retera
    Retera
By contrast, when Reforged launched there was only one leaked MDL 900 file included in the game database. Many months -- maybe a year after Reforged released -- someone here on Hive posted a decompiled MDL spec that was closer to accurate. But in my experience, especially with Reforged HD graphics, the MDLs made by Ghostwolf's viewer were able to open directly in World Editor where as the MDLs saved by Retera Model Studio were not. And I had a horrible time trying to figure out why.
    Retera
    Retera
Now that Microsoft leaked the debug build of Reforged with all the checks and alerts included, including MDL parsing errors, as well as their inhouse toolchains and converters, it would probably be much easier to verify this. I would imagine you could do similar to what I did with MDX 800 and just convert a bunch of models to and from MDL and become extremely familiar with which outputs from a tool are correct or incorrect. Have you tried that? If it leads you to any obvious errors that com from Retera Model Studio MDL outputs, or models that Retera Model Studio cannot parse, now that we have a source of truth like that I would totally support fixing my side. But until this year, what I always told people was that MDL for Reforged was basically a giant unknown, and that unless you want to damage or lose data it was only safe to load from an MDL using the same tool that had written to it when dealing with version 900 through 1100 (now 1200).
What do you guys think: if I upload a 12 hour YouTube video intended to totally exonerate me for the events of 2022 and the alleged Warsmash cease & desist (that never happened), would people watch it?

The idea of the video was mostly that if we chronologically play back recordings of my Warsmash play sessions coupled with the kinds of music my social media suggested at the time, after the 12 hours the viewer will end up likely to be as crazy as I am. Good idea? (Last time I tried to upload this video, YouTube blocked it because they're like that.)
Hello Retera, I'm hoping you can help me out with an issue with the Beta Frost Nova effect model I've uploaded here: Link
The Frost Nova effect has a visual issue where it causes lines to appear "above" and I do not know how to fix this issue. This issue only appears in the World Editor and In-Game and not in the 3D viewer or Sanity Test. I'm assuming this is because I can't get a perfect conversion from the beta file itself, but seeing as you were able to get the Death & Decay model alongside its Ribbon Emitters roughly as close to the original itself, I'm hoping you can help me fix up the Frost Nova effect too.
    The visual issue: Link

    Retera
I think it would be easier to port the original file using a port script than to try to "fix" your file which is potentially messed up and might be missing data.

But my storage server is offline where I have the original one. Trying to take a look if I can get it online today. I'm not sure why it's down
My lord, when you have time (if you have it), I hope you can help me with this please, I would be a thousand times grateful since I am totally bad and have no knowledge in this type of things, on the other hand you are a total genius. Model

This has not been compiled into a single bundle that folks could download and click "Play" on, largely because it requires both Warcraft III and World of Warcraft to be installed on the computer and it requires very specific out of date versions. If you follow the "Getting Gordo6908 to Eastern Kingdoms" videos, on the Video 1 in that series I made a deliberate choice to start playing using only publicly downloadable stuff and not from any program that was unique to my computer. But I was not on a Windows computer so the walk through might differ slightly versus a Windows machine.
    Retera
    Retera
It might help to "build up to it" in a series of steps:
    1. Run the Warsmash simulator of Warcraft III to make sure that works
    2. Run the fork of the Warsmash simulator that can use WASD with a hero character -- you can actually run this without WoW probably, or at least it was originally possible to do that, by just downloading one of the character models from the Hive's "Ported Models" section. The first draft of that code was using the Tentacle Priest model from here
    3. Download the WoW 0.5.3 onto the machine and extract it, then get Warsmash to load that. It loads natively and doesn't need porting because the engine has dual capability to read models/textures from that game or from Warcraft 3 Patch 1.2X
    4. Maybe draw some maps, or I could send you my Feralas Test Map that was my first time running around with Creature\HighElf\HighElfFemale_Warrior.mdx that I later started to refer to as Shelly the Elf, and you could try to get that map working
    5. Then if that's working, you could try to run the bleeding edge stuff that loads the entire Azeroth map but it's more likely to crash because it was so recently written
    Retera
    Retera
I rewrote Warcraft 3 in java. Then the YouTube comment trolls asked me how to open "Eastern Kingdoms" map on it.

    I got the trolls covered:

Hey Retera! I'm the author of the Improved Female Demon Hunter model, if you remember. I'm currently working on a "remaster" of my model and I'm stuck on creating a feminine version for the metamorphosis. I remember that someone said that I should ask you for permission to use your version instead and you left a comment saying that you didn't mind but back then I didn't even know how to merge two models without breaking everything... I'm more experienced now and I come to you to ask for permission to use the Alternate form for the Female Demon Hunter in my model. With proper credit, of course
    Retera
    Retera
Sure, go for it. The alternate female demon hunter model I uploaded is literally a TFT Beta model from the early artwork for the Spirit of Vengeance with a couple of edits anyway. So... like... the original War3 art team made it, then deleted it from the game. And I was just spreading it around :D
    Hi,

Could you take a look at these triggers if you have a moment? I suspect that they are causing the desync. I converted them to JASS if you prefer to read them in that format.

i've been thinking of Java ever since seeing you program WarSmash, actually. it's not for me - i've more of a structured paradigm mind, TMI but i enjoy reading Modula-2...

    however WarCraft's GUI functions was my first avenue of programming, here you have been implementing that program's design into your WarSmash, now i'm always coming back to these codeblocks... i see these everywhere in Java programs for visually programming the Java language;
    • Greenfoot
    • BlueJ
    • Alice2 (wanna note for anyone reading that THIS feels just like the WC3 codeblocks to me, gratuitous exploration of interactive compliments to level editing.)
    • Alice3
so i guess meanwhile i'm reading up and enjoying Java some more, i wanna share the fun i found. something you might've heard of?

    good regards, N

    P.S.
this can be @noreply if you don't feel like there's anything to reply
    Retera
    Retera
Yeah. Warsmash was made by copying code from Retera Model Studio, and Retera Model Studio was made by copying code from Matrix Eater, and Matrix Eater was made entirely in BlueJ, originally.

I have less experience with the others that you mentioned.

But Warsmash supports maps that are made in Trigger Editor, so we can build triggers and play them on Warsmash.
It seems that my comment made you feel bad, I apologize for that. Since Blizzard is not a person, but an entity in the form of a company, and you literally can't kill or hit him, I didn't think that anyone would feel uncomfortable and much less think that I was inciting real physical violence. I guess I'll have to check a few times before posting anything because lately I offend everyone... My apologies, once again.

    Regards.
    Retera
    Retera
I feel I am also at risk of this same problem, which is why I mention it. In 2022 I made a parody of myself having my project shut down by Activision Blizzard because I was only thinking about myself. In my life it seemed like Activision Blizzard didnt exist, had no reputation that could be damaged more than it already was, and making this fake takedown of myself would just be something funny to leave friends wondering about me while I distanced myself from War3 for a while

But instead it got repeated on "news" outlets and Bellular made a video about it with 100,000 views where he was repeating this absolute falsehood that Activision Blizz tried to shut down my project
    Retera
    Retera
So, anyway, sometimes we say things with an assumed audience where we think people know what we mean. But as folks get more and more divided on social media, it can actually be even more common that people do not know what we mean rather than what we say. Just my 2 cents

AI wanted me to care what Elon Musk has to say, because when I was concerned about AI the data mining liked to shift focus to Elon Musk's far-flung future concerns instead of present day ones. It's possible that all of the concerns are valid, but we probably shouldn't ignore present-day concerns. Also, my YouTube content recently started moving to entertainment about how Elon Musk pays money to pretend to be good at video games, and then goes to political rallies to do Nazi salutes.

Something fun about the idea of actually being good at video games, is to think about how if I played against Grubby in 1v1 Warsmash, even though I created Warsmash, most likely Grubby would win. He'd be really annoyed at the differences and probably laughing to himself about it, but I reckon he would still win. That wouldn't change no matter how much money I manage to ever collect in life. Of course, I disagree with Grubby about certain ideas like the need for the game to remain exactly the same forever to promote build order memorization as a form of skill, but that doesn't change the reality that he's good at playing the game.

Hi lord, how ya been, I was wondering, is there any way to bake textures in your tool?, I mean simulate reflections and other stuff from dds in your Model editor?, using SD assets
    Retera
    Retera
Sure. When I want to do that, I use Scripts > Convert HD to SD with texture baking (experimental) in the menus

    Hello sir,

I'm new to modding and wanted to ask you questions regarding Retera Model Studio (and possibly some help on how to converting models for pre-Reforged Warcraft 3.
Basically, I'm currently using this modder's https://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iii-rebirth as alternative to Reforged but I want to try and make thes model Sir Anduin Lothar and 2 Paladin Reforged
    and
Is it possible to make these compatible with 1.31? And if so, how do I achieve that? Particularly I want to make these work for a mod The Last Guardian by replacing the models with the ones I listed up there. I asked the creator of The Last Guardian mod if its possible to do something like that and he pointed the direction towards your program.
    Retera
    Retera
The best I have figured out in terms of putting a model from Reforged onto 1.31 is to use the HD -> SD (experimental) with texture baking dropdown option in the Scripts menu. Then, in the result model, if you're not using it on "Reforged classic mode" you probably have to change the "Emissive" texture filepath to refer to something you export yourself, which I think is the only manual part of the task when doing it for a single model currently. (The conversion code was originally written for doing the entire game in an automated way, and at least one of the automation scripts includes code for solving this emissives issue, though.)

Also, when we put too many high-polygon models like this onto the old game, it has a tendency to start crashing randomly. So, you might want to use a lower-polygon LOD if it exists. Maybe for these custom models it probably doesn't exist, since custom model authors often delete those to save space. So maybe that advice only applies to ingame Reforged graphics.
It's not necessary to not criticize reviewers. Maybe one could change opinions or learn something.
The mod might not be simple technically, but the end result is pretty much a light altered melee endeavour.
    Hello Retera,

I wanted to stop the disappearance of the armor for a Footman model as the body decays. So that the skeleton is still wearing the helmet, for example. But I want to make it so that the Footman decay skeleton model generally looks like this in the whole game, so I have to do it without WorldEditor. If that is not possible, I would also like to generally switch off the decay so that the body remains lying. Anyway, someone in the forum wrote to me that this would be possible with your software, he wrote:

"you can set the visibility to none and will remain
or set it in the .txt from 1 to 1
these are settings done in RMS
Something I did for corpses to remain without decay"

    And :

"in the .txt you can see the timings of the objects (geosets) and set them there to 1 or 0"

I have now searched everything in retera modstudio and tried everything and haven't found the .txt mentioned or any of the settings that were mentioned anywhere.
I'm still new to this program and hope you can help me find these settings, or alternatively explain to me how I can generally ensure that models in the game keep their armor on when decaying, or don't decay at all. That would be very helpful and I would like to thank you in advance and thank you for this very interesting program that you have created.

    Retera
    Retera
Sorry that I seem to have missed this post. Were you able to resolve the issue? If you eliminate the decay bone animation then it's quite possible that the model would do what you want, similar to how a Mountain Giant has no bones, because he has only a single Decay animation and not both Decay Bone and Decay Flesh at the same time.

But, as others indicated to you, if you would like to cause individual components of the model to remain visible at the time when the bones are showing, that is also quite possible.
    Excuse me,
Does this tool(Retera's Model Studio) work with reforged 2.0?

There are a few bugs for me still to fix, but from what I could tell it generally works. It should work fine enough as far as I know. Some people have a weird problem where the program won't launch, but I heard from someone that if they reinstall Reforged the problem gets better. There's something where sometimes the game install is formatted one or the other way, and the parser written by @DrSuperGood that I use to load game data will fail in some cases but not others. I did not have the problem on my computer yet so I did not yet have a chance to debug it.

But the program DID work on my computer with Reforged 2.0
