Warcraft III: Reforged Patch Notes - Version 2.0.3

Here's a post that's more on topic than my last but kind of a hot take:

Despite how much I dislike Reforged, I do have to say I actually really respect the current team and the progress they've made in such a bad situation. In the one year they've worked on Reforged they accomplished more than the last team did in four. It seems, for all their faults and problems, the new team genuinely does care about making the game as good as they can and actually listens to their players.

So, props where it's due. 👍

Love the tile update. I also appreciate that they added separate sections for "Cliff Base Tiles" so that you can easily use those cliff-based tiles from other tilesets as non-cliff tiles. Saves a lot of hassle for map devs!
That's existed for many, many years the cliff base tiles section :P

Just wanted to mention 3 bugs I have found since the patch went live a few days ago.

1) The names of Custom Campaigns in the individual campaign menu itself (not in the menu where you choose which custom campaign to play, but once you click on that campaign itself) are not showing the colour coding of the name. Instead, the code for the colour is wrapped around the name itself.
2) When you open up wc3 and click on multiplayer too fast, the game becomes unresponsive and won't show any custom games in lobby, and you have to click exit a few times for the game to even exit.
3) When doing triggers for characters talking, using square bracket [ ] and wrapping them around words causes those words to become invisible in game, for example, if a character were to say: Arthas [went to] Northrend.
When you go in game and see the character talk, it will only show: Arthas Northrend.

  • "Fixed an issue where a unit that had a health upgrade and spellbook ability would die upon creation"
Issues like this always make me chuckle, software is weird sometimes.

For those who have the original CD-Keys and could not install the latest Classic version. Perhaps this will help: Cannot install the game - Battle.net prompts me to buy it
"As long as your RoC CD key is registered in your Battlenet account, you can play the standard mode of WC3R.
To install it:
  • Log out of the launcher
  • Click the cog icon in the upper right of the log in window
  • Select Continue without logging in
  • Buy button will change to Install
  • Once install starts you can log back in to the launcher in the upper right"
Because this will soon happen:
Thanks @stein123 for the info!

So if you don't have Reforged but do have the updated version, it'll lock you out of the game until you pay again?
From my understanding, they will cut the possibility to add your CD-Keys to Battle.net if you haven't already. Reforged is a different thing that can be bought as an upgrade. For now, Classic remains updated.

Pretty much what deepstrasz said. You can no longer use your old ROC key to install the Reforged "Classic" client. The old TFT key is completely useless for this method. Reforged is simply an "upgrade" that gives you the HD graphics (both SD+HD and full HD) in-game in addition to the updated "Classic" client.

I hope some custom old classic campaigns remain playable.
The latest patch is backwards compatible with almost all maps and campaigns made in legacy versions of Warcraft III, both using SD and HD graphics. As far as I'm aware, there are certain maps and campaigns that don't work properly on the latest patch for different reasons according to some reports. The Chosen Ones, for example, has the custom multiboard that doesn't seem to work properly if you are using the latest patch (and not legacy like 1.26/1.27), along with other bugs like broken skills/special effects upon save-load. Furthermore, the latest patch fixed numerous bugs that were unresolved with the previous patches, particularly invisible object models upon save-load.

A lot of old maps work now that have been crashing for years, e.g. you can play the original Dota 1.0 map by Eul again which was always broken as long as I can remember. I don't know exactly which patch fixed this, but one of the recent ones.

DOTA maps, particularly those made by dracol1ch, use some kind of the virus exploit to add more features to the game that specific version doesn't officially over. If I'm not mistaken, the version that was prone to memory hacking was 1.26, which was patched in 1.27b or higher.

Older DOTA maps use the Return Bug, which was patched in 1.24b with the inclusion of Hashtables, so they won't work on the latest patch.

The v6.78c AI 1.4e is the most stable DOTA "AI" maps according to some reports since it's the latest one made by the original DOTA developers (IceFrog). Both v6.83d AI and v6.88 AI were made by Chinese teams, which still have a lot of bugs.

Maybe my wording was confusing. I am saying that the maps used to crash, but are not crashing now.

Also, I'm not talking about Dota Allstars, I am talking about the very first Dota maps by Eul made in 2002. This map can be played in Reforged, but it used to crash in all pre-Reforged TFT versions.

So there must be something that caused this map to crash that was fixed in recent patches. I don't know what it is though.

Can you register multiple keys? I've accumulated several copies in the time since it came out.
Sorry for small mistake (I mentioned hotkeys, while in fact it's in-game license key). You can only register multiple keys for the legacy versions of WC3 (TFT), though you may not be able to play online (unless if it's a third-party servers).

Source from HIVE Discord. Every major updates released by Blizzard for Warcraft III (Reforged) will take at least 3 months after their last release.
The September 17 patch (2.0.3.23101) is considered as major one, despite being the same build numbers (2.0.3), even though this patch only has a few improvements compared to July 17 patch (like maximum WE tileset being increased to 64).
A bit late as of this writing, but we are on a ~3 month cycle since the July 17 update.
That means, we could have 2.0.4 by at least before Christmas or maybe mid-January 2026.

Okay. I understand. Is the priest skin gonna be fixed in that patch? And there is a new bug regions aren't visible anymore in world editor. Also what will happen to the original Warcraft 3 cd keys when they expire?

Not sure. I haven't played Reforged just yet. I'm currently using the legacy TFT. Maybe, Blizzard will fix those in the upcoming patches.
Also, I'm actually quite stupid for forgetting to check Bug Reports in the Blizzard Forum, and it appears that new Reforged patch still has more bugs that should be addressed, even those that were existed in the early patches.

Notable examples in the single-player campaign:
1.In the missions where you have the Blue color for your player (such as the entirety of ROC Human and ROC/TFT Night Elf campaign, as well as the Rexxar ones), it mistakenly uses the Yellow color instead.
2.NightElf04's optional quest is broken: You can no longer get the Claws of Attack +6 for killing the Furbolg Warlord. Happened in Classic mode. I think it was the bug that existed since 1.32.
3.Broken strings in the Rexxar campaign (like one of the Centaurs mistakenly named "Vol'jin").

Last, but not least, please fix the "Northrend Archway" model file in Object Editor to use the correct one, not the Stormreaver Warlock.

I wonder if they will ever fix the menus and the size of the save and back buttons in the options menu...

"Save" is too small and there are other issues...

Text in general should be fixed, space between characters should be lowered for it to look more like a AAA title and less like some web-based or mobile clone of something else... Just saying!

They could fix the shortcut hotkey in menus. In RoC/TFT you could always press the highlighted hotkey for any menu button and if you were typing you could simply hold ALT. Hotkeys only works some places now.
Actual example from old client:
Launch
B for battle.net
type password <enter>
C to enter chat
ALT+G to enter custom games

I was complaining about being unable to register my CD keys only two months ago, and suddenly they're set to expire later this month, coincidence?
At least this deadline finally motivated me to open a support ticket about this, even though my odds are only "1-5%" according to the reddit post I linked back then.

So after the Cd - keys expire what's going to happen to the original? Can you even play it after.

Blizzard doesn't offer an upgrade to the latest patch of Reforged "Classic" from Battle.net through original ROC key redemption. For the legacy versions, it's still playable, but you won't be able to do an online play through official Battle.net server (third-party servers or LAN play still work).

Reforged is basically a different thing that can be bought as an upgrade. It unlocks the HD and Classic+ graphics in addition to the updated game client.

Other than that, the game client still uses the new Reforged's WebUI, which is still buggy right now (even if you're running on high-end system), but the legacy background menus (ROC and TFT) were restored with the current patch.

More than 2 cliff types will be interesting to see, but it's probably likely that we won't be able to seemlessly connect 2 different cliff types even if they're both natural/constructed
Anyway, CinematicModeBJ is still broken and causes crashes when called...
