You should save the map as a Warcraft 3 Folder, and import all assets into it. That prevents the editor from crashing.Just tested. Still doesn't fix the WE crash when loading custom maps in HD mode that have imported textures. The fix is still - run world editor in SD asset mode.
It's sad, because it basically means you can't develop maps in HD asset mode if you have any sort of texture imports. This should be a high priority bugfix.
