Uhmm Retera, at the Illidan Blademaster, I kinda don't feel the sword. I think it's because it doesn't look Warcraft III-ish.
Since you chose the example-art to show him, for him to use as an example, and indicated that he should use it (and not something like it), I'm not sure how you didn't realize that it would indeed look out of place in Wc3.

One has to use Wc3 resources (i.e. "a sword like the Pit Lord's, but with a handle like the Naga Myrmidon's...") or use out-of-game resources & indicate the similarities (i.e. "a sword that looks like this; in-game textures. Perhaps the Spell Breaker's glaive, but with some green here and there...").

Would you guys mind if I requested unique wings? I want them to be done with in-game textures if possible... You guys seem really good, and this is stuff I can't do.

If you guys could do any of those... I would really appreciate it, and credit you guys in my orpg and get my friend to credit you guys too since he is looking for more wing models as well. I am 100% sure these aren't easy so I understand if you refuse me. I tried to keep it simple though

Sorry about that, I forgot to say I want it to look warcraft iii-ish. Maybe there's some warcraft iii skin that could fit better. Maybe use death coil for that eye on the sword and a green and black version of the frostmourne for the sword. Just something that would make it look Warcraft iii-ish or something that would match the Illidan model.

Yeah! And they live happily ever after! :vw_unimpressed:

Really dude? You think it's that easy?

Let me tell you how easy it
is:
- I'll extract the texture and edit it in photoshop and adjust to the colors of your paladins, which is very easy because I'm good at 2d art
- I'll have to animate it which I barely know how.
- I'll have to attach new equipments to it which warcraft doesn't have, and I don't know how to create a thing from scratch.
- I don't have the right tool for that big request

Very easy right? :vw_unimpressed:

read the first post

Edit: not to be rude but it's really hard to model you know...

Sorry if i offended with ''easy'' also i know how hard it is,i tried myself once to model and i failed hard, also my definition for Easy was that its not making a model from scratch for me its just adding parts and stuff to it insted of making from 0.
Also sorry if i offended :p:wink:

@MasterTrainer there seems to be a problem in the model itself, when "dissipate" occurs it does not ascend, it does not even decay and leave bones

@Redclaw how can you add stuff that doesn't exist in warcraft (excluding creating it from scratch)

Edit stuff thats already there, Doomguard shoulders with another skin can lead to paladin use or such,Get my drift?

@RedClaw you do bring up a bit of a good point how I see it, that a lot of probably doable requests show up and don't make it onto any table/planner and then can easily be forgotten. I'm busy again tomorrow, but maybe this coming week I'll have some more time to do things, and scanning the forum for stray requests to add to might table might be something I could do.

Along with finishing things on the table, and getting some more modeling tutorials put together >.<
But I don't think I'll be too busy in real life next week, aside from being constantly busy all day tomorrow -- so I may have time for stuff.

Edit: I wonder if it would help us to have a separate/parallel forum where each and every post was a particular request, and only a request, so that we could browse through the forum created as people posted and not have to keep a list of model requests.

Missed requests is quite a challenge, and a separate/parallel forum/thread isn't a bad idea, but in my opinion, we're looking in the wrong direction for the solution. The onus to have a request noticed should not be upon you and Kaizer; the two free-lance modellers donating time & effort to do all this. Rather, the onus should be upon the individual to be noticed.

i.e. Pick a certain phrase (the word "request" would work, but it's too common; "@#$"? "@Request"? "*Request*"? "~Request~"? Etc) that is unique and, most important, Search-able by you two. Then mandate that any honest Request by an individual must include this phrase, or else it is likely to fall through the cracks.

Throw this on the front page. Then it forces people to actually read it, and stops them from missing the important info there.

This puts the responsibility to be noticed on the requester, and saves your valuable (modelling :p) time from combing through this topic. :p

I believe Modified Wolfs request is finish, not unless he requests for more
Didn't you already finished the Illidan as Blademaster and Two Version of Irollan Druid request?

@Kyrbi0 wait reading your post :p
so your suggesting to us to seperate our workshop right?
that's a good idea but...
I'm just started my 4th/last yr in high school so I'll have a hard time doing requests because I'll have to focus on my studies and college.

So if I create a new thread or run by itself I probably wouldn't be able to make requests immedietly, I'll only be available on Saturdays

I'm sorry, but did you actually read my post? :p

Nowhere did I suggest two separate threads; in fact, aside from the issue of "can't both edit", I think the two of you make a great team & get things done. No, the idea Retera suggested was a separate/parallel thread that would be only for Requests, so you guys don't have to search around & possibly lose track.

My idea was, instead of putting the work on you guys, make it a part of the requesting process. Basically, if they want a request, they need to follow your rules (i.e. not too complicated, use pictures, explain clearly, ask nicely, etc), and the new rule is "your post must contain "this phrase" in it somewhere". That way, (picking a phrase that is easily Searched & unique), you can just do a single THW Search through this thread and find everything.

Alright... Sorry. I tend to wax verbose. Also, I was trying to sell an idea, and I find the more words, the better. :p

Basically, here's what I suggest:

  • You guys are missing Requests occasionally.
  • This is unfortunate, and even though you do this for free, makes you feel responsible.
  • The reason the Requests are missed is primarily because they get lost in all the other posts. No way to tell them apart.
  • Retera suggested a second topic, only for "official requests".
  • This isn't a bad idea, but might be hard to keep track of things.
  • I thought of (in my opinion) a better idea.

  • My idea is based upon one Concept:
  • Concept: It's not your responsibility to find Requests. It is the Requester's responsibility to make themselves heard.
  • This is the same thing as expecting Requesters to be Precise, be Detailed, and be Polite.
  • Basically, since you are being so kind, they are responsible to make things Easy for You (two).

  • The Idea: Everyone who wants to place a request must include a certain Phrase in their post in order to be placed on the list.
  • This Phrase would appear in the first post, in bold, bright coloring, so everyone can do it.
  • This Phrase can be ANYTHING, as long as it is something unique
  • (I might suggest some symbols like "@#$", or a phrase like "~Request~", or "even !!REQUEST!!". :p)
  • Why a random Phrase? Because any Hive user can Search through all of THW for certain phrases from certain people.
  • All you have to do is Search through just this thread for your special Phrase, and find all the posts from people that requested.
  • This ensures they all end up on the list.
  • Again, this puts the responsibility to Read & Follow your guidelines (like "nothing too complicated") upon the Requester.
  • Also, it saves you time and effort. A quick Search every few days or weeks will bring up all the new Requests.

Hopefully that makes more sense. : )

hmmm... that's actually a good idea, but what kind of "phrase" will make it more specific to find....

I myself hadn't really use the search tool in the threads...

how about a format requirement? :D
You haven't used Search?! It's incredibly useful for finding things, especially if you're not sure where it is. :<

I think a Format Requirement (even a simple one, like "name - model - picture - requirements - suggestions - etc") is a great idea. The "Searchable Phrase" can just be part of the request.

However, I think the Phrase is just as important as the Format. And like I said, doesn't matter what you pick as long as it's unique to this thread (not likely to be typed anywhere else).

Do "@#$=Request=@#$". That's crazy & non-reproducible.

REQUEST:

==========

Model File: Thief with blade

Request: Remove the weapon (model no.1) and make another model without dagger AND HeroGlow (no.2).

Reason: In my campaign, the equipped weapon appears on the hero model as an attachment, but I need weaponless models for this.

---------

Other: Thank you.

@Dat-C3 Your request sounds like the kind of thing that I could probably do when I get un-bogged-down.
So far I am making 0 progress at getting un-bogged-down this summer.

So that doesn't mean I won't do stuff, or that you are forgotten. It just means that I will go a lot slower.

I think Kyrbi0's idea sounds good. Like Kaizer, I haven't used Search much myself.

Edit: While on the topic of improving systems and doing stuff as well as possible, I was wondering if anyone else had any inspirational ideas on how to fix up the Theron Sentinel head. In the words of Deathforge:
kinda shitty helmet.

There's a perfectly explicable reason for that -- I ran out of ideas of what to base the head off of in WC3. If it makes sense, here's a picture of how I made the original helmet:
attachment.php

It was literally just a reskin of the combination of two original WC3 models.

Another Edit: The reason I made the helmet that way was because I used a different reference picture off of Google images. I have never played Gears of War; I also don't know what a "Theron Sentinel" is. But I made the model to fit the most model-looking thing that I found on Google.

attachment.php

However, when faced with the request here
nice work, the theron looks good, but he is too thin make his waist big like it should be ;D, and can you change the helmet to this ?:
Theronguard.jpg

I was stuck trying to devise a way to make that other helmet, and so I literally just started "making it from scratch" by appending a primitive Sphere and reshaping it, then skinning it.
attachment.php

attachment.php

What I created is literally the old head (to get the mouth in there) with a blob stuck on it that is the right color and general shape!
It gets the job done in game (
attachment.php
) but really looks like crap up close.
attachment.php

So, what I was looking for was any available thought or inspiration about how to make that particular head shape (maybe even re-doing the mouth) with only modified parts of original Warcraft characters. It isn't that models can't be done otherwise, but if you're not a true 3D artist then if you do them that way they come out looking kinda like crap.

But hey, i doesn't look like crap as you assume it to be. It looks cool. Perhaps it needs someone to skin that's all.

Edit: By the way, Retera, remember that fist i requested a while back. I think i need something like that but longer and it is made up of molten rocks and lava. Basically, it's a fist made of brown rocks but it has lava and fire spilling all over.

It's components should look something like this.

I see how you'd like to make it better, but to be honest,
Retera said:

to me, describes many of Blizzard's models. Have you ever taken a look at the Peasant or Peon head up-close in-game? Yeah, don't. Nightmares for weeks. :p
My point is, that's what Portraits are for. Yes, the style lately has been to incorporate Portrait's into the model itself (saves space, generally), but don't forget about the utility of just having a "decently workable" unit model, with a nicer Portrait model for the closeups.
(note: is this guy a Hero or a unit? Only if he's a hero do you need to worry about close-ups, really)

Also, your pictures indicate that MatrixEater not only has a wireframe/dot perspective window-thingie, but you can view the mesh "fleshed out" with geometry!? That's amazing!

Hey, guys! I'm guilty; I've been spending time playing Heaven's Fall and not getting ahead on your requests. So time to get ahead!

Today I worked on the Male Irollan Druid and the Theron Grenadier model.

The Male Irollan Druid is looking pretty good; I just gave the female one a priest head. Note that it still requires the "FemaleIrollanDruid" texture to work.

The Theron Grenadier model looks rather interesting, but not that much like the Grenadier picture yet. I was thinking claws for hands, so I gave him a Dreadlord body, and that really made him look weird. Also the head looks weird. So I should still do some work on it.

Yup. I've also started beating my way through the Frozen Throne campaign on hard mode; the last time I saw the whole storyline through was probably around when it came out, watching my brother do it when I was much younger than I am now.

Purple Doomguard... Huzzah!
I know the Grenadier still needs work, but I'm thinking I'll try to get at least a basic model for most of the requests then go back and improve them. Also, this took like 15 minutes tops.

Edit: Made some Naga Samurai. They don't have custom textures currently, and have less armor than the picture given, but I think they're looking fairly good -- I especially like the four-armed green one; with the Matrix Eater and MdlVis combined, I got the second pair of arms and the flag both animating.

Edit: Made an assortment of rounded sunken ruins blocks.

Edit: Couldn't seem to sleep much this morning, so I got up at like 6:50 and made Kyrbi0 a bat. I kept wanting to work on Heaven's Fall, but once I was awake it seemed like I should do a request. (This bat is not a derivative work of the other bat model linked that was made by GreyArchon, I completely redid the riderless model from some files leftover from the Bom-bat-ier project. Hence no permission is needed from GreyArchon)

Request guys:
Can you remove the texture at the bottom of the default rock models (Rocks in the environment) and turn the rock into ice? I mean, replace the texture with the ice one. Transparency would be nice. Variations would be cool too. :)

EDIT: If you have more patience, can you do it on the stalagmite and stalactite models found in the UTM too? sorry I can't give you them myself. I don't have access to the world editor. :)

Not in a rush so take all the time you want. Not gonna be able to use em' until I get well. xD

!Excellente! I'm so honored you would forgo sleep for me. :p

It's looking really good, and I'm glad you were able to do it without editing GreyArchon's (just easier to credit that way). However, I think there's one aspect I was hoping to see that I probably didn't communicate effectively, and that is the placement of the backpack.

It was designed to give the "back end" of the bat some "weight" (Asthetically, that is: since it's head is so big, the rider generally makes it look less lopsided. Without the rider, it needed something else). However, I also intended for it to cover up the nastily-blank "top-backside" of the bat (again, where the rider model normally obscures it, Blizzard got lazy and did nothing but a box with a grey gradient fur texture. :< ...) I've done a mock-up in Paint (attached) to show you what I was shooting for; hopefully it makes any sense. :p

Also hopefully, it will even look good; straddled to the back of the bat rather than hanging stiffly from the claws. If not, then what you have is pretty much teh shtuff, man. The Team Color is great (not sure why a bat has... 'horns'? :p), the feet are cute, and the "backpack w/ scrolls" is excellently renditioned. Kudos; let me know.
