I think you should either edit a race completly, OR make a new race made only of custom units...

Personally, I'd just edit an old race.

but i dont think ill do this if we cant download custom models and skins; although i'd want to, i just wouldnt be able to make a good race.

I have to disagree with that... there a re so many models unused, so many ideas left behind, even without models or icons...

The reason why we aint allowed to download models is that then it would be more pointing in good looking models instead of nice tech trees.

Sure someone would vote cause of that a race looked more hot with only custom made women instead of voting on a non-custom-dwarf-race.

Two questions though:
• Do we have to make terrain?
• Where do we get the template map?
Question 2 is probably dumb. I'd be guessing that it's being made ... Or w/e.

I dont think there is a template map, but if you need one, I have a good tut for getting one.
1. Open up Icecrown Glacier melee map.
2. Save it as Techtree Contest Template map.
3. Make your race in it.
4. Save it as your <Race Name> Contest Entry.

   You can if you want, but it would be a total waste of time: this contest is about working with Blizzard's Object editor, not about terrain, icons, models, or anything else.

A question: does this:

One existing specific race must be chosen for editing:

* Human, Orc, Night Elf or Undead.

Mean the only race you can make is an existing playable race? Or does it simply mean you use a race and turn it into another, like Goblins?

Also, will there be a specific theme, or is this competition generic?

SpaceBar, I think it's you have to edit one, ie:
Human => Critters
Orcs => Stones ...
Night Elves => Lamps
Undead => Tissues
Ok, those were really random, but I think that is how it should be, like to edit one race and make it into another.

This contest is going to be very tricky as I presume that most participants will misunderstand the rules and / or botch their submissions.

Expect five to six weeks as a (temporarily considered) duration.

Chaos that's a bad idea. START making the race now, then export the unit object data via the object editor and your submission will be complete.

To stop the imports, there will be a template map given, that will most likely have multiple costum things, so you can just import All Object Data in there...
