If you have a version before 1.24c, there's a good chance your mod will get screwed up by the time you install the patch. But so far it seems like 1.24c will benefit us because of some advantages it gives us, such as HashTables.

Character Creation as in choose Horde or Alliance (no alliance yet), your race, your class, your gender, your skin tone (we'll just use color tinting instead of new skins), and hopefully your own name.

I was wondering what sets there would be. Is the sets the normal WoW sets or will there be custom sets, including the WoW sets?

Same with items, will there be custom items?

So, basically, what type of custom things would be applied to the game that isn't from WoW?

We'll probably include expansion items - including sets too. Though if you find any recreated WoW item attachment models (weapons, armor, etc.) on the Hive Workshop that aren't exported from WoW it will likely be imported into Wc3:WoW.

If you're asking if we're going to add real WoW items but rename them, then the answer is no. WoW items will be added and work the same as they do in WoW, as well as have the same names.

If you're asking if we're going to add our own items into Wc3:WoW that never appeared in World of Warcraft, then the answer is yes. However, I'm not entirely sure for 2.0. The only custom items in Wc3:WoW that aren't in World of Warcraft are going to be simple things that support the systems in Wc3:WoW... which ones, I am not sure yet.
We're going to focus only on real WoW items for now. Mainly quest items, low level items, and maybe a couple end-game items like The Ashbringer and the Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.

What To Expect This Year

I hate to make guarantees, but I feel confident that we've conveniently gotten a good start on the Wc3:WoW project at the beginning of this year. A lot will happen this year and I'm hoping we can release something before it's over. Here's a list of some things to expect throughout this year:
  • Lots of development updates, as usual.
  • Screenshots of the 2.0 Durotar, Orgrimmar, Mulgore, Thunder Bluff, and possibly Arathi Basin. Other zones may be revealed if progress is good.
  • Closed BETAs of 2.0 (private, not public)
  • Teaser/Trailer of 2.0 terrain and possibly gameplay as well.

Some things, like the Teaser/Trailer, might not arrive until around late this year. However, the listed is our goal to achieve. And although we'd desperately like to release a public version of Wc3:WoW, it is too early to determine... we've just started on the triggers. However, that doesn't mean releasing Wc3:WoW isn't listed as a goal for me and Yixx. That is why we're focusing so much on more general systems like floating names, the camera system, keyboard movement, wandering mobs, and so on. Right now, the goal is to make the mod playable, whether the mod is enjoyable or not. Once it can be played, we will initiate alpha testing - only developers test the mod. When the team sees that all noticeable major glitches with what we put in the mod are fixed, those of you who were in previous BETAs (and posted enough bugs) can expect another Closed BETA coming your way.

I signed my old World of Warcraft account back up again - mainly for references for Wc3:WoW, but also to play with friends and to check out some of the new features Blizzard has added. This means I can find all the reference images and video content I need. So I am no longer relying on the community for pictures or videos of Orgrimmar - I thank you guys a lot for the help, it was quite effective.

Right now I am working on getting references of Orgrimmar for myself and references/images of World of Warcraft's character creation for Wc3:WoW's character creation system. So far so good!

PS: I play on Wildhammer, Mug'thol, and Drak'thul!

Nice! Work will increase a lot faster due to not having to wait for screenshots. Also I'd like to know something, with resubbing did you receive full T38 and 9 level 80s? Lol (My hate towards BC/WoTLK shows too well) Oh well, have fun playing, hopefully general chat doesn't kill you or hopefully you can turn it off.

That is ONE ugly twink... Also where are the trinkets?! Pfft lol.

39 Gnome rogue is the best twink IMO evasion (From gnomes = amazing "Hard to click too") Then there is the +15 to eng @ 39 you can get 315 (Cap back in the day) then to top it all off their CC removal is awesome

Most likely. It will affect Wc3:WoW's terrain progress massively too, so unless there will be private servers that can somehow not upgrade to Cataclysm, World of WarCraft: Cataclysm will be the death of Wc3:WoW's accurate terrain progress.

Almost finished terraining the Valley of Trials and a bit of Southern Durotar and while saving, the editor crashed and lost all the terrain I did. Hey Blizzard, want to focus on fixing editor crashes in the next patch? If StarCraft II's editor crashes even once for me, I will never use it again. WarCraft III's editor is the only editor I've used that crashes and loses everything when you're saving.

That's why there's an autosave feature in the Editor ;)

You can always set up your own little world, if you know what I'm saying. :p

There is? *facepalm*

Yup. It's somewhere in Preferences.

This is Wc3:WoW. The goal is to recreate all zones accurately, not some of them and the rest be made by me or some other creative terrainer. Even if Wc3:WoW's zones were redone by MadseN in his own way, I'm not sure if people would be as interested in playing because it isn't World of Warcraft. It doesn't meet the expectations of the mod and it seems like a lot of people are already against us throwing in creative zones or dungeons, so I'm trying to stray away from that idea.

i think it would be a good idea to make ur own changes to WOW instead of having it be exactly the same.

No matter how much i like WOW, i think with different terrain it would keep me interested.

There is ONLY one problem with that, you are one person and you don't represent the masses of the players following this. While yes, it would make the game a bit more interesting to few. Craka's main goal is to give the crowd what they want, and the masses want a recreation down to details.

This would be the overall question that would take the team about a half a second before answering.

Should we make few happy and have a good chunk of players leave, OR displease the few that will still play this either way and keep everyone. =)

The thing is, this project was designed to make a replica of WoW. Maybe they'll change it in an expansion or something, but their main goal is a replica of WoW.

I don't even like the new terrains in Cataclsym. Sure, it looks cool. But it's very repetitive and is mostly just giant lava cracks in the ground and rearranged towns. I think they're redoing every quest in the game as well. Screw that!

Original WoW ftw, always! Even though there are some great things in the expansions as well.

Nostalgia.

Don't forget to put Mankrik's wife in the game.

I just realized that in Yixx's version of Wc3:WoW he just sent me, all the doodads are scaled incorrectly. No idea why. Going to try to load an older version and hope that fixes it.

New motivation for me is that Bob27 is ready to create cutscenes each race in Wc3:WoW when you create a new character. Like in World of Warcraft, a camera will fly around as a voice narrates a bit of the backstory for you before you begin. Players will be able to skip this of course, in case the player has seen it once or twice already. Would hate to force someone through a cinematic! Therefore, my motivation is to finish a start zone; Valley of Trials (Orcs & Trolls) or Red Cloud Mesa (Tauren).

[EDIT]
Fixed. It was just a matter of removing the newer Valley of Trials map version and replacing it with the older one. Unfortunately I had to delete all the triggers in order to replace it - didn't want to risk corrupting the file due to one version using 1.23 and the other using 1.24. I have no clue why all the doodads were scaled improperly... but now it's fixed.

I uploaded two work-in-progress screenshots (not much in my opinion) and included a development update at our Mod DB as a way of feeding the users there with something to show we're not dead and to my surprise, we got enough hits to meet rank 7 most popular mod. With so many great mods out there, I'm really amazed how much two screenshots worked out for us. Rank 7 out of 11,069 mods is pretty damn huge you know...

We even gained 16 new watchers, giving us a total of 215 members watching the project!

So because of the amount of hype I guess we've stirred, I'll try to terrain enough of Durotar to throw in even more screenshots throughout the week. Can't make any solid promises - I'm usually tired as hell after I school, which is why I am most productive during the weekends, but assure you all that I will try to show off something. Hopefully Yixx also makes even more progress on the interface and we can show that off too.

To be honest, I had NO idea this project was so known outside the borders of the Hive :) Good news I guess, and yeah, hopefully this can give you more motivation. Keep up the quality Craka_J

Use those 10 minutes of screen shotting/pasting/converting/uploading the image to work in my opinion. We've got enough screenies =), though either way I'm satisfied.

Been terraining Valley of Trials since 4:50pm to 7:30pm - and am still going. Making some nice progress. I haven't corrected the Valley of Trials entry/exit just yet, but I think it would be easier to do if I did everything else first and worked my way up to it. It's not a huge issue anyway, but I'll deal with it when I need to.

I'm trying really, really hard to make enough progress with the terrain tonight where I can show off yet another screenshot, so check on the forums every so often.

Last night, before I went to bed, I posted another News archive on Mod DB for Wc3:WoW with another Work-In-Progress screenshot to accompany it.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iii-world-of-warcraft/news/whoa

We've received even more attention after that and Wc3:WoW is now ranked 4th most popular mod on Mod DB and have also gained yet another 4 Watchers, giving us a total of 20 Watchers in a single day, thus overall we now have 219 Watchers.

Anyway, take a look at the post linked above. There's a screenshot to look at inside of it as well. Hope you like it!

Well there are some maps when they have made so you can walk with WASD.
Just so you know if you get a skill tree, full size inventory and an camera that you can switch sides i would be happy, but make so you can jump walk with WASD inv, skilltree, and custom items that shows on your hero. I would happy that is was the last thing i played on earth, if you have a chance to play cloudwolfs WoW sort of like dota map that he mad look at the terrain it is like heaven. Sorry if some was gramma was retarded note that im not from us or england.

Couldn't understand the majority of your post but I think you want us to add WASD movement. As much as we'd like to add that feature, it simply is not doable - at least not as smoothly and seamlessly as it works in World of Warcraft. If we decided to use WASD, you would have to keep pressing up to continue walking forward, whereas with the arrow keys you can just hold them down instead. Less stress and effort for the player is important.

We would use a third party program to allow WASD movement, but unfortunately the 1.24 patch ensures that anything 'third party' does not interfere with WarCraft III or its gameplay.
