How do you make very steep hills like the famous Diablo 3 indoors

Hey guys, i can never figure out how to make hills very steep, i want it like diablo were its almost like a wall. for example, there is a railing and then the hill is almost 80-85 degree drop. Not a terrain cliff.

Any help would be great
