There is nothing to prove it is not real. WW1 was a prety crazy time and a lot of these stories are infact true. I discovered it when I was making the new cooldown system for my map where when you "activate" an ability, I add a slow aura based ability specific to that ability to show a buff denoting that the ability is in cooldown. Then I was shocked to see that whenever I cast an ability, the damage system is activated and it damages my character... so I tried disabling the parts of the ability trigger one by one until I learned that it was the addition of the slow aura based ability which triggers the damage system...

and its really weird as Slow aura doesn't even have hit points changing data...
