Get the metaphor straight. "Ripping WoW models from the site" is being compared to prostitution here, not "The use of WoW models"

I hate it when people hook up the wiring wrong.

Uploading maps with WoW models is as well illegal (I won't post once more why, look by pages 12-19). So on, they'll still eat modhammer.

    Here's the rule:

and guess what does THW's rules say, :D?

just exporting the model is illegal, if you post WoW models in any kind of way, you'll experience the big holy hammer in yar arse!!

It's allowed if you edit it so much to remove size etc and change the skin so much that you can hardly tell it's a WoW model...

Which is probably a bad idea. Need I point out that one map that has WoW rips and Blizzard put on their featured maps page?

It is really bad, and it was put on the website for Battle.Net, an external company not regulated by Blizzard. They can put whatever they want on there as long as people are playing it, and a shitload of people were playing Molten Core.

Well, really bad or not, that shows their stance on WoW rips. There's no way they didn't know about it.

That part is completely irrelevant. Battle.net IS NOT Blizzard entertainment, therefor, if they really wanted to, could feature a hundred fucking Hentai maps. It doesn't matter that it's porn, people play it so we should feature it!

lmao. I'm pretty sure they can't put stuff blizzard disapproves of up, or blizzard would make them take it down/sue them/switch their multiplayer away from bnet.

Whatever. Because Blizzard has no problem with it doesn't mean that people at the hive have to follow their lead. The no export rule is the no export rule. If people want model exports or maps with them they can just look at other sites. no big deal.

I was playing Titan Land on b.net and some one noticed that one of the models was from wow. The game wasn't a huge size, and almost no one ever noticed that it was from wow. So whats the problem?

    THE POST IS REVIVED AGAIN!

ok crazywolf12. I'll break it down for you.

WoW models don't have all the animations that wc3 models do, and vice versa, you can add them, sure, and in some cases the only thing the wow model lacks is hte decay animation. not too hard.

Wow models need alot of removal of redundant data to be worth the effort in wc3.

However, it's still something that could theoretically be useful in maps.

Now for why they aren't allowed on the hive.

    1. They aren't particularly original. - while this argument holds true in the case of just uploading rips, the not original comment is a moot point if youre just using it in a map.

    2. In american copyright law, they fall under grey area of whether or not its fair use, based on how you use it/what you do with it.

    3. They are blizzard models, and blizzard has not expressly said whether they can or can not be used (though they did host a map with imported wow models on their site to download).

Hive took the conservative route to whether or not ripped models should be used. Some of the people are pretty vocally against it, a smaller number are wholly for it if its useful, and most don't care.

In the case of you not finding hive's rules to be reasonable, there are a handful of wc3 sites that allow wow models in maps, and there is one that allows the direct upload of converted models (though it isn't in english).

People say that, but alot worse gets approved on hive. and there are some pretty awful models in wc3 as well.

from wc3, Moon Priestess, Beastmaster (not rexxar, the other beastmaster model), and the BloodElfHero model (not Kael, the other one) are the first that come to mind. those are complete shit.

wow models are crap for an mmo (too low poly). but the thing is, they're better than many of the wc3 models.

It is illegal to take the models from World of Warcraft and use them on a Warcraft 3 map, i haven't been informed why but i can take a guess that it is because since you create a map and write your name as an author you take the models as your own and this violates the copyright terms therefore you being a convict.
