IQ is a measure of how fast you learn, not how much you can learn and not how much you know.

The test I took was like an IQ test, but not an IQ test. Basing someone's abilities on an IQ test is stupid and ineffective. Going to a selective high school makes you an arrogant prick, overconfident in your abilities and lazy. I still like the school I went to, especially seeing what a comprehensive high school is like (my younger brother go to one)

Maedh, as long as you are happy doing what you are doing, it doesn't matter whether you went to a smart school, a normal school or a school for the mentally developmentally disabled. As you said, IQ has to do with shit.

I would not be surprised if they abolish IQ tests altogether and focus more on a general mental skills evaluation soon. The old IQ test was really weird the current isn't too good. We can only hope for a more balanced future test.

Yeah. I'm fairly certain that I'm one of the five most intelligent students at my high school, but I'm sort of blond (no offense to any people who actually are blond) and rather absentminded. And then I don't do most of my homework.

I'd don't like saying I'm intelligent, but I have no problem saying that I'm normal and that everyone else are idiots. So yeah my situation is sorta like HT.

Also, on the multiple IQ tests I've done, I've scored between around 122 and 137 (a couple written, and a ton on the internet). I know it's not a real scale for intelligence, because I've seen real dumbasses score well on IQ tests when they really aren't that clever at all. It's like saying if you can memorize a whole book *cough* history *cough*, then you are intelligent. You really aren't though, because I'd consider intelligence as the capacity to analyze information and deduce a conclusion...

IQ has nothing to do with being "smart," it has to do with ability to learn. Just because someone can learn a lot doesn't mean they do. There are also multiple types of intelligence, ranging from musical to bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, artistic. Generally, it's something like seven or eight types of intelligence that are accepted by the scientific community (or at least, social science's closest equivalent).

P.S: I am one of the most intelligent students in my school (and that group is separated from the rest by a noticeable margin), but am also one of the worst performing, so until college I'm just another idiot, who totally has the right to be full of myself. There is also a group of considerably less intelligent students in my school, and they're all spacy and invariably stoners.

I'm not blond either :p And I AM one of the most intelligent people in my school. But that doesn't have to mean anything, we have REALLY low standards (most of people are idiots/morons).

Lol, I thought that was the same everywhere...
Smart people often become arogant and lazy cos they are told how good they are.... seen it before....
Then there are the idiots who are told how crap they are, excuse my French plz (no offense to anyone who is actually french:wink:) and so they just start thinking "wtf am i doing here then if i'm so crap?" and so they don't bother trying...
But what I hate more than either of these (telling you how good/bad you are) is patronisation for the so called 'mentally inadiquet' or whatever kind of politically correct name they have for people that need 'learning support'.
They used to do it to me in primary school and I ****ing hated it!
And I know people in high school now who feel just the same way. WHO BLAMES EM!
IQ is meaningless as how can it directly affect what you can do...
"I got 98% in my test!", cos your probably one of those plebs who seems to be unable to see what is going on around you... Now thats a serious problem I find most people have; they don't look or care for that matter... a good lesson in philosphy is needed to straighten them out, not that I believe in philisophical views either; pointless questions like 'how can you prove that you are not a frog':eekani: and that's gona help me how?

Hey sorry for ranting like this, but you gotta do it somewhere  otherwise you might just explode!

oh and btw, how or where (never mind why, ill leave that for another time) do you have this IQ test? I don't know of anyone who has had one...

I've just been lazy my entire life. I've been scolded by most of my teachers for being brilliant and doing nothing about it.

I usually get high eighties and low nineties without trying, because I'm some sort of freakish human pseudo-encyclopedia. People generally give me amazed looks whenever I actually bother to answer something complex in class. Then they give me amazed looks when they discover my GPA. Personally, I think the ones they give me when they discover my GPA are more fun.

Lol I gota agree with who ever said that being smart makes u lazy. When I was 9 or 10, ppl kept telling me I was a genius (ok, they didnt say I was a genius, but close enough:razz:), and because of that I stoped doing homework. Sure im getting good grades, but iv lost the habit of doin homework, and I think I might fail University

I'm not lazy, they just assigned the wrong things. Like work that I'm supposed to do at home.

I do well on tests. Proof that I learned what they taught. Why then, was I graded so badly? It's as if they don't even care about actually teaching. As if, they just want you to do work, like some kind of factory worker or trained monkey.
If you continue public schooling, then I do thank you for my future shoes.

I agree Hakeem, that's why I hate doing projects. Why should I have to take time out of my life to do their work and then get graded not on my knowledge of the subject, but on the amount of effort I put into it?! I hate that. With a test, you either know the material, or you don't. With a project, the person who gets the best mark doesn't have to know jak shit all about the subject just as long as they spent 50 hours doing the damned thing.

In the US, at least, I've heard homework was instituted during the cold war to produce higher-performing students in the maths and science fields, to make sure Russia never caught up. Not sure of the story's validity, but it's nice to blame someone else for the homework I'm given and don't do.

Does that mean in the US, we fork roads?

I, like you, never used to do homework (and still don't, mind you), and just depended on acing my tests to squeeze through my honors classes. But I did that knowing I was a lazy bastard, not because I don't support homework. Homework is a necessity. Yes, it is, for the most part, just "Busy Work". But it breeds self-discipline. Even I, the greatest procrastinator in the world, know that. If you ask me, yeah, I think they should hold your intelligence on the subject in a much higher esteem, but homework is an integral part of education. I don't think any former student would be as responsible as they are without such things.
If you continue public schooling, then I do thank you for my future shoes.
You're welcome, but I have no interest in buying any shoe companies in the future.
