UTM Reforged... Reformed! ;)

Hey all,

Remember this twat over here who promised he was going to work on and release a new UTM? Well psyche: He didn't.

He gave up pretty much almost immediately.

But now he's back! Due to some ass-kickery done by our very own @TastyBamboo we are now collaborating in a more organized and coordinated way to make this happen (honestly it was more gentle prodding and promises of green pastures, but that doesn't have any dramatic flair at all) ^^

My plan is to make an HD UTM using all the new and amazing assets we can find here at the hive and/or anywhere else, we'll probably also take what we can from the ported section and possibly include stuff from Refuge in Ruin and/or Talavaj's stuff, as well as all the hidden goodies from this thread and we'll even set up some alpha-tiles the way @FeelsGoodMan taught me to do it a while ago. And of course we'll carry over all the essential scenic terraining doodads from the old UTMs (such as the glow model and other necessities).

Even though I now have a side-kick: Anyone is welcome to help! So if you want to help directly, then contact me and I'll reel you in and give you something to do, otherwise just commenting here with suggestions, ideas and/or links to assets you think we should include that isn't already on the list will be of massive help as well :) I will be sure to include anyone who helps in the credits section of the map!

Here's the current work-sheet we're working with: UTM Reforged Assets to be Considered

Editor To-Do:


1. Set the following values of all assets in the editor:
  • Pathing Texture: None
  • Min/Max Scaling: 0.010 - 100.000
  • Tilesets: All
  • Text Name: [Mod] Category: Name (Ex: [WC3] Ashenvale: Obelisk)
Main categories: Props, Structures, Water, Environment, Cinematic.


2. Set the same values as above for "Trees/Destructible" assets, with the following additions:
  • Fixed Rotation: 0
  • Shadow: None
  • Death: None
  • Hit Points: 0.000

3. Set up alpha-tile assets (2x2, 4x4, 4x2) in the Cliff/Terrain category by changing the model-file value to custom path "none.mdl"

Also, a bit of an update: As a result from a conversation I had with @Mayday (Yes, all blame on him), we have decided to restart from the beginning. But before you get you pitch-forks and torches, let me tell you that he had some real good ideas on object IDs and indexing which will make the map a lot more useful not only to terrainers, but also modders.

Basically: We're working on it, but it's gonna take some time still :)
