Contest poll specifically stated that any of Diablo franchise characters are allowed, which means I, II, III and all the expansions included.
Why people hold grudge against D3 (me included too) is our own thing, but do not let that merge with your judging of things, and perception. What one chooses to draw is one's own choice, and if you're an idiot who's judging the person's choice rather than the person's work, you deserve nothing more than a high five in your face with a frying pan.

I personally might not like what they did to D3, but I'd do a Demon Huntress skin any day, if there wasn't a great one already done. D2 and D1 have only 50x50 pixels (and less) of characters to base your skins upon, where D3 has gone HQ, and therefore is a more logical choice.

D1/D2 skins will need to find a way to replicate a character in such a way, that it's detailed to fit in Wc3, but not standing away too much from references.
D3 skins will need to find a way to mimic appearances of a character, but to give it a fresh approach, and also something to make it unique from all the artworks out there.
That said, I hope you'll bring your arguments about D2/D3 choices over to your private messages. There were times to complain about the theme, which was both theme discussion and theme poll, and if you failed to reach out in time, you've got absolutely no right to rage in the contest itself. If you don't like it, wait for the next texturing contest, simple as that.

And on a side note, as last words, if I ever see one of you trying to talk someone out (passively subliminal or directly) of the contest just because you're a whiny little bitch with no actual things to do in life, you're going to face me. And THAT is going to hurt. A lot. I support constructive criticism, but being just straight offensive offends me and other people too.

Now. Back to the contest :p
I started to draw the face up, just to figure out the concept while I do so. Chances are very high that I'll change her skin tone to a more darker shade, to resemble that Indian ethnicity appearance. Oh and yes, it's a Diablo II Sorc.

Anyways,

I was searching for 3d renders of the Gargantuan Beast but found nothing. So in my quest to understand what the fuck his face looks like underneath his eyes, I got too close and zoomed in too much.

Wen1.jpg

Gargantuan Beast right? You know, just looking pretty awesome and all... but then

Wen2.jpg

I cannot unsee this. The image of his awesome skull face is totally ruined. I lost determination in creating this skin. Why.

I'm thinking of going back to the Anub'Arak model for Duriel or just creating a new face for the wendigo. Why? He had such an awesome skull structure, just.. WHY?! I should not have entered this contest. Now the truth cannot be unseen...

Yes me too The Silent ;________;
Can we just pretend this never happened? And have them as bad ass eye slits? And not as an ugly motherfucker, but as the bad ass skull face we all know and love?

A Void, interesting render, I couldn't find this one, although it does seem a bit different and less bulkier (if you can find me a Baal render, seeing as you are pretty resourceful, that'd be great xD (I just want to add it to my collection of D2 3d renders)).

Baal render? It's on the cinematic intro for Lord of Destruction expansion pack.

You can even see an older version of baal model used in Diablo II LoD Teaser Trailer.

That is so interesting! I never knew what his face looked like either until now :goblin_boom:

My apologies for the double post, but I got great feedback from the first one and wanted to say thank you. Right after that the thread turned pretty sour, but hey, it happens. Anyhow, I wanted to show my progress and see if anyoe had more ideas. One of my problems is that this character is fairly simple. She doesn't have much for flashy armor or a shield or anything. Is there some way I can add more detail while staying true to the Rogue's image?

You don't need to do it as 100% appearance of the character of the game. I did mention, if anyone bothered to read:
D1/D2 skins will need to find a way to replicate a character in such a way, that it's detailed to fit in Wc3, but not standing away too much from references.
D3 skins will need to find a way to mimic appearances of a character, but to give it a fresh approach, and also something to make it unique from all the artworks out there.

On a side note, the dangling thingy on her undies samples texture from the back right part of her leg, if you want to remove it. I removed it from my silver rose skin and nobody ever noticed a missing chunk of her leg.
You could make her armor more detailed, such as adding a hard-leather breastplate to add some details while still keeping same theme and colors in mind. Also, could you take a portrait shot? Wonder how she looks.

Well, the Wendigo is just texture work as well so I guess you don't really need to add more stuff, just perfect what you currently have - add leathery texture, better the colors, lighting, you know. Etc.

I personally wouldn't recommend adding too many new stuff, but hey, that's just me. You could add the strapped dagger to her leg (from D1). But.. I suppose she'll have 2 daggers then. Eh, still might look better.
Anyways, if I were you I'd work on perfecting the face as this is the most interesting left part of the character. Instead of adding new stuff.

Also, her boots still seem a bit short, they go over the knee in Diablo, but I suppose it might look a bit weird on the Warcraft 3 model as it doesn't really have long legs.

Here are some suggestions about the rogue texture;

1. In Diablo 2 she has a collar thing with a necklace.
2. The strap on her chest should be diagonal not horizontal as in Diablo 2.
3. The leather boots should also be longer.

Also, nice skin. Not sure how I missed it trough my review.

He sure didn't skip the leg day.

Progress: pretty much finished the face up (for now). I have yet to decide do I want her to have a darker skin tone. The eyebrow earring happened by accident, but it gave me an idea to actually make one :)

1. Got it. Thanks. I thought about it but I guess I needed some one to say it before I moved on it.

2. Do you mean the belt? I wish I could but it is mirrored so it won't go diagnal.

3. Again, good call. I will move them up to the knees.

But, what about details? Any ideas for paterns or designs and where to place them?

I played around with the dangling thing (sorry about the phrasing) but decided to leave it in because the Diablo character has something of a skirt there and the hole in the leg isn't the best, though it does hide well.

Here's the portrait:

Ooo, that looks cool so far. And it totally looks like Diablo II Rogue too.

Slight update: some tinkering with cloak. It's got odd case of texture sampling, but I think I managed to make something unique out of it. For the body armor, I ain't sure how to make a skirt ._.
But we'll see.

That's how I intended to do him. I tried but gave up on the TC and animations lol. I'm pretty interested seeing the animations, and how did you remove the TC?

you intended to make him ? sorry didn't notice it, is it ok that I continu with this one ?
about the TC I just released that it's a big problem and I have to find a solution
and for the animations I completly forgot it it's true that it doesn't fit well with mephisto

With a cloud of white fart where his legs are supposed to be, the tail and animations will look more legit I hope. Too bad texturing contests don't allow attachments, but you can add one when releasing him. Looks really awesome :)

Well, It's okay, I'm continuing my Fallen anyway.
Pictures or it didn't happen.

That's not really an issue. The contest rules do not forbid another contestant to make the same character/creature as another.

That reminds me, Archian....

Looks pretty good. I would blur it more and then turn up the contrast. This will smooth it out and give more depth at the same time. It looks pretty good to me. And very creative choice of subject and model.

I would blur it more

Why, that's the question hanging from the cliff. Generally, we want our texture to turn out as clear as possible to avoid undefined works that would otherwise look quite crammed and fuzzy.

it still needs to look like a warcraft3 skin to some degree
Kind of. Not to the point at which it kills the personal creativity though.

Omg, that's genius. It looks perfect for Mephisto.. I actually searched high and low for a model to really fit with Meph (as he's my favouritte character) but didn't find anything accurate. Probably, as you guys point out, the animations will fuck it up a bit, but not too much I hope.

Apheraz, I was thinking you could try alphaing out the cloak, just to see if it looks ok.

Body parts indeed could use just a tiny bit less of saturation/contrast.

@morbent, on Jaina model, entire staff, cloak and shoulder-pads have team color, so you can't alpha them out unfortunately. But I figured my way around.

Slight update on face construction, and added team color on cloak. Also, finished up the staff, and started working on her body now. It wasn't until this point until she started to resemble a D2 sorceress lol, cape really screwed me over, but there ain't a better model and I'm lazy to swap :(

Well, if you look at the image he had, it has obvious brush lines all over it and it is supposed to look like skinless flesh. It should look mashed together and not so sketched looking. However, his line work is correct, it just needs blurring (or smoothing as Misha calls it). Then it needs more contrast (deeper dark colors and richer light colors). Either way, I think it is a great start.

^ Because it is still a WIP.

@Apheraz, you could slightly shade the TC as it stand out too much. I really love the cape tho. <3

EDIT:
I am almost finished with my skin. I am still thinking on what I can do with the sword.

It is really easier to give advice for your skin if we actually see it :D
But it sounds promising, screenie please?
