Hehe, thanks. But not really though. If we ever get a WC4 (please God) it's sure to be a friggin' beautiful game, way better than anything I can ever hope to do :p
Just look at the new WoD models. Even though I don't like all of the designs, I can't deny that they're pretty darn eye candy.

Still texturing:

Gloves are done. Slowly texturing my way down...

I am watching this thread ever since I saw your post in Rise of the Horde, where you displayed white mesh of Grommash Hellscream. And I have to break your point mate, because on the level you are now when it comes to modelling (Grommash is perfect example), "If we ever get a WC4 (please God) it's sure to be a friggin' beautiful game, way better than anything I can ever hope to do" doesn't seem like something that I can trust in. I mean not like I'm trying to force opinion upon anyone, but aside from the Lich King (DC model we got here on Hive), this my friend is going into history of Warcraft III modelling.

In other words, possibly (will confirm upon completion of this model) the best Warcraft III model ever made in my honest opinion. Keep up the good work, you have my full support!

Alright guys, I'm back. Kinda.

Sorry for the lack of progress lately. Damn real life getting in the way again. Went down with the flu or some kind of food poisoning for a little while there. I'm better now though. And I've just basically been busy with classes and other things that (sadly) has higher priority than this.

It's calming down now though, and I should be able to start working on him again in the weekend. Yay :)

I want to get him finished before I have my exams, in the end of next month. Should be doable.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I promise I'll get this guy finished as soon as I can.

Still texturing, as you can see. Almost there though.

Off-Topic: Awex0me! Star Wars didn't really reveal much, especially none of the cast, but Jurassic World, mayne! Chris Pratt, yet again ;3
I wonder what Hybrid they created, Spinosaurus + Tyrannosaurus is my best bet

Yeah, hopefully we'll get a longer SW trailer soon.

Texture is very close now:

Still working on the boots. After I'm done with them, pretty much only Gorehowl left texture-wise. Then I can move on to the animating.

EDIT:

Two more pics before I call it a day:

Texture is almost done. Pretty much only missing Gorehowl now.

Sorry for the long period of inactivity guys. I wish I could say it was because I've been busy, but I really haven't. Truth is I haven't really felt like getting back into it, until now that is. I recently made the mistake of getting back into Skyrim, and that sorta sucked much of my spare time.

So anyway, on to business. I'm trying to get the look of Gorehowl, but I dunno... It kinda sucks right now:

attachment.php

I probably just need to shake off some of the rust I gathered during my break. I'll play around with it some more. Feedback is welcome though, as always.

Too short, imo. Gorehowl was always depicted as having a fairly long blade.
Welcome back, Tauer! :)

Thanks! :)

Good point, that's an easy fix though ;) focusing mainly on the texture right now.

EDIT 2:

Finally starting to take shape:

Feedback welcome.

Hello there Tauer, good to have you back, it began to feel lonely around ^^

Good to be back :)

Alright, think I'm gonna call it for the texture. At least for now. I gotta move on to animating before I get too tired of texturing. I'm pretty satisfied with the result anyway.

Of course, any suggestions are still welcome.

It's kinda too blocky, the real one is more edgy, more fancy. I know you're going for a simple look but that's too simple IMO.

Okay, you mean the shape? Or texture?

I tweaked the shape of the head a bit, looks better imo:

You're axe blade draws a straight line from top to bottom (on the front piece) but gorewhol is more curved there too.

Also, the spikes and the skulls would make it look more epic too. I just feel there's something missing on it. It seems too low poly IMO. Remaking it with a few more polies would make it look much better already.

Welcome back Tauer! Been waiting patiently for your comeback mate, and of course as always you didn't leave me disappointed - but the complete opposite, impressed! Excellent work on the Hellscream model mate. I am so waiting for it's release, for I am surely going to use it!

Woah! Tauer's back!!

Welp, aside from me-not-recalling-if-the-regular-Gorehowl-has-that-strange-bronzish-netting-stuff-on-the-back, I'd say it's looking mighty fine. (seriously, is that on the original, or are you just embellishing?)

Eh, there's something like it on the original, though not exactly the same.

Thing is polycount is a little high already, can't really afford to add more polies. So if I'm gonna add more detail it'll probably be the texture.

Off-topic: Went to see The Hobbit yesterday, we didn't get it here in China until Jan 23rd. Still not a fan of all the deviations from the book, but pretty fucking epic movie nonetheless. The relationship between Thorin and Bilbo is beautifully depicted. Almost made me tear up :')

Dat Gorehowl from the WoD picture looks pretty *.* pity you can't adapt yours to it, the skull is so fancy.

It is indeed very pretty. Unfortunately it's not very convenient for me to alter the mesh now, seeing as I've already unwrapped and everything. Adding a skull would mean that I'd have to move around in the texture to get texture space for it, not something I'm that interested in doing right now ;)
Not to mention that my skills aren't even comparable with the guys at Blizzard hehe. I might go over the Gorehowl texture again later to make it a bit fancier.

Fancy stuff you got going on.

:)

Another WIP picture for Stand - 1:

Trying to add some a little life to him, by making slight movements in the shoulders, head and mouth. Notice his mouth opening a bit to mimic breathing.
Some minor clipping issues with his hair on the chest, nothing I can't fix though.

EDIT: Also his left hand needs some more movement. Just noticed.

It would add max 50 100 polies to it, they won't make much difference to the model's size.

I'll draw a picture later to show you how easy you can make it look better without unwrapping everything again.

Edit: axe.PNG Ofc, everything has to be double sided. I forgot the horn on the skull etc but these few polies will not matter at all in the later filesize. I also made a mistake with the spikes there, there has to be added another poly, made it kinda in a hurry lol. You get what i mean.

If you just add these few simple attachments to the axe, it will look much more epic and detailed, yet simple.

Awesome man, simply awesome! Keep it up, and I beg you to include a portrait as well as I am planning to use him in every single project hah. Amazing.

Of course :)

Stand - 2 WIP:

I'm trying to make his animations somewhat reminiscent of the original.

Hmmm, Neodex keeps getting a strange error. When I'm animating and want to test my model in Magos, it suddenly crashes 3Ds Max when I export. I have no idea what change I made that makes it do this, forcing me to go back to an earlier save. Seems pretty random.
Didn't lose a whole much, but I have to remake Stand - 2. It's done this twice now. Annoying.

Gotta love Milkshape.

Eh, despite the errors I sometimes get with Max, it's still a vastly better workspace than Milkshape in my opinion. Animating is so much better in Max.

Looks epic for a Wc3 model.

Man, those animations are sick.

I particularly like the shallow breathing.

Thanks :)

Stand - 3 WIP:

attachment.php

Note, the GIFs seem to be displaying the animation a bit quicker than they are in the model viewer.

EDIT:

Ugh, that error is truly annoying. Makes everything take much longer. Anyway, walk cycle WIP:

attachment.php

attachment.php

I'm considering making a walk fast animation for him, where he sprints holding Gorehowl with both hands, any thoughts?

EDIT2: Yeah, they're much faster in the browser than they should be hehe.

EDIT3:

More accurate GIF:

attachment.php

EDIT4:

Alright, tweaked it some more. Don't think there's much more I can do for it:

attachment.php

Going to bed now, moving on to the next animation tomorrow.

Don't wanna keep updating my post, so I'm bumping.

Working on a walk fast animation:

attachment.php

attachment.php

My plan was to use this for Walk Fast, but I'm not sure. I think it might look better than the other run animation. I could replace that for this one. What do you guys think?

The way he's holding his axe looks a bit awkward. Maybe make the axe move a little bit more freely?

Hmm, not sure I understand what you mean by freely?

Is Gorehowl attached to a seperate bone from the hand? I'd suggest moving his grip up a bit during the walk animations if it is.

Unfortunately, it's attached to his hand. I originally attached it to a seperate bone, and linked that bone to his hand, but it gave weird results when I tried moving that bone to change his grip.

New WIP:

attachment.php

I know his left leg looks a bit strange, I fixed that already.

Maybe try tilting him forward a bit during that animation? Still seems interchangeable with his basic walk animation.

He's actually already tilted forward quite a bit, it might not be very clear from that angle though.

Stand Ready WIP:

attachment.php

I'm gonna make his attack animations two-handed, since that's how the original one is. Usually don't make two-handed animations, should be interesting :)

You should consider having one animation in which he swings the axe with one hand in a horizontal slash. That could be interesting to see. Something akin to the Naga Myrimdon's "Attack - 2" animation.

Oh, and I just realized that he is missing his signature Warsong banner. That is a bit of a shame, but it's understandable that you don't want to crowd the model with little details any more than it needs to be. It would be interesting if you made it as a separate attachment which could be attached to his Chest attachment point, though. :)
