nice spell. even though this really looks like web ability with tree effect though. and.. when you cast it to air unit, u forgot to remove the flying classification from that unit, so, even though it's already lying on the ground, a unit that can only attack ground unit can't attack it. and you should turn off the loop if the TSL_targetgroup is empty and turn it on again if u cast it when the TSL_targetgroup is empty for efficiency. btw, u can change this one on tree sight limitation loop
  • Animation - Change (Last created unit) flying height to 0.00 at 100000000.00
to this
  • Animation - Change (Last created unit) flying height to 0.00 at 0.00
the second will instantly change the flying height while the first still need time, very little time, but not instantly

and this
  • Time - Every 0.01 seconds of game time
is too low. warcraft can only do a timer loop every 0.03 second or so even though you put every 0.01 sec. change it to about 0.03-0.05 sec.
btw, about the limitation that doesn't allow you to cast it twice on same unit... that's stupid... you can always make it either stack-able(cast it again to increase the effect) or just refresh the duration...

OK I will have this in my mind although I can't change anything any more^^(for the contest)

it,s the BJs and stuff it contains that probably ruins the score if you didnt know that.

.. Submitting a spell in GUI shouldn't cause the deduction of contest points since it's impossible to write a spell in GUI and have no BJs at all! (It depends on the spell cuz sometimes, by coincidence, the actions you use in a GUI trigger are all natives :p)

Comedy
The Spells & Systems Contest is more of a fun code learning environment than a contest, due to its low requirements, its short time limit, and its small prize. Each spell must adhere to the theme listed below, and to win, it should be executed well and take the main judging points into consideration.

Welcome to the poll for Spells and Systems Mini Contest #18 - Comedy! Please read through the rules before voting!

    • 1. Idea (5 points) - Originality and execution of the idea.
    • 2. Triggering (5 points) - Make efficient, leakless, simple triggers..
    • 3. Overall Aspect (5 points) - Making sure your spell is easy to read (tooltip, comments, logical variable names), as well as having a practical use in-game.
    • 4. Visual effects (7 points) - A nice-looking, non-laggy effect. Again, don't use custom models, achieve the effect with native WarCraft III models.
    • 5. Lulz (8 points) - Slapstick humor, dry humor, please refrain from obscene humor.

  • Inviting your friends to vote for you, bribing random members with rep and otherwise cheating with the VB poll system will get you DISQUALIFIED, BANNED from future contests, -REPPED, and possibly INFRACTED. So don't do it!
  • This includes, but is not limited to, sending PMs out to various users, getting other people to send those PMs, advertising this contest on other sites with the intention to gain more votes (whether it is explicitly stated or not), and so on. If you are suspected of cheating, the staff will notify you and interrogate you (hopefully) over PMs.
  • Happy Voting!

Judgement still lasts. Seems like spells was big OR judgement is hard OR there was not much description and it makes judgement harder OR Bribe have more important things to do (busy with real life). Cant wait for the results! Even if I know they may be disapointing!

The fun I had while testing my spell and the idea I found was woth it!

Entries were all worth a lot of credit, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and time put into a lot of these. The average score was really quite high.

The winner is...

Chicken Burst, with a score of 30/30.

Perfect execution with a lot of mainstream quality. Coding was nicely done with not a lot of room for improvement. Extremely good job!

Second-place:

Suicide Squad, with a score of 29/30.

Very wonderful execution which also has a lot of mainstream quality! Excellent work.

Loljuvenation

Pros- Really creative visual effects - both peaceful and deadly at the same time. I like that flying units create flying critters. The colors are cool! Coding is well-done.

Cons- Tooltip still says Rejuvenation, the flowers look a little out-of-place just sitting on the ground (maybe make them a little more active)

Honey Shower

Pros- Incredible script! Lots of time was spent, every object has a struct, the code is well-organized, it is a work of art. Bonus points! The spell works very smoothly without any lag, even with multiple casts, surprising for the amount of effects.

Cons- Adding a funny sound effect when the bear comes out really would help. The honey visual effect is a bit overpowered, maybe half that amount would have been fine. The bear's backswing point is not in-sync with its damage point.

Bunny Run

Pros- Great lulz value! The sound effects work really well and the effects are neat. Very good ability. Overall the triggering looks nice!

Cons- Lag on the first cast (none of the effects are preloaded). Triggering, BR_Integer[0] and BR_Integer[2] should be split into two regular variables for efficiency. The hovering transition is not very smooth.

Contagious Cold

Pros- Very good visual effects. Sick units turning blue was a nice touch & the spell is overall a cool idea. Use of texttags is nice, there is a good sound in Sound Editor which has a sneeze (I think it's Malfurion) which could have helped the lulz value. The AOE spreads nicely.

Cons- Lots of lag when half a dozen or so units are knocked back at once. There are a lot of memory leak issues in the knockback loop (many variables not being cleaned). Custom value of units are used, which is bad for modularity, so it would have to see this updated before going public.

Rupture

Pros- Some sadists might think this is funny (sorry not a sadist today). The blood and effects are nice.

Cons- I felt there needed to be some way to remember the original size of the unit. Also would have been nice to target a group of enemies instead of just one. The 0.01 second stun doesn't really fit.

Up You Go

Pros- I got a laugh from reading the tooltip. There was no lag that I could see, and visually it does what the tooltip says it does.

Cons- There's an explosion right at the beginning of the spell which doesn't seem to fit. A unit isn't launched if it dies from the spell. The unit should maybe be launched higher for a spell that emphasizes the word "up". Also, the test map does not give a lot of variety for testing.

Miracle Shot

Pros- Great tooltip on this that made me laugh. The peasant falling over is a nice touch.

Cons- Cooldown on the spell is HUGE, making it quite hard to test the ability. The effect was weak, not a lot happening, possibly could have been supplemented with a moving text tag. Not a lot going on with the triggers.

Tree Sight Limitation

Pros- Test map was... extreme. I like that it drags air units down and adds trees to units.

Cons- The effect should also have been extreme as it was really simple. The triggers are packed with memory leaks, 0.01 seconds is way too fast for a timer like that. You can use 0 for the second fly-height value. The spell also did not seem to do anything to sight-limitation as I was always being attacked by units. It would be better as an AOE spell.

Chicken Burst

Pros- VERY smooth casting, the effects really fit. I think anyone would find this quite amusing :) . I can see this becoming a very popular spell. The fact that it doesn't lag even with multiple casts is also a great plus. The sound effects are great.

Cons- Some static-ifs for constant booleans would be great. It would be more efficient with a loop instead of a group-enumeration.

Lame Joke

Pros- The effects and sound effects were a nice fit. I like the introduction "Want to hear a joke?" Nice idea! "I'm on a different plane of existence! Get it, plane?" - That really deserves to be the Level 4 bad joke, definitely an abomination!

Cons- The thing was giving me tomatoes a LOT more than 15%, more like 85% of the time :p I didn't hear the shadow hunter's sound even though I had the spell at level 3.

Super Frost Joke

Pros- Nice coding, configurables are good. I enjoyed finding out how many jokes were available.

Cons- Some sound effects would've been nice, the text displayed could have been floating text for more realism. Some static-if's could be used for constant booleans. It could use TimerUtils instead of Timer32 because the only need for the timer is the activity at the end.

Moonwalk

Pros- I like that it encourages micro and was really strong in visual effects. It was entertaining to test this out. Coding was nicely done. Test map was fantastic! I loved the intro at the beginning!

Cons- Some sound effects would have fit nicely to boost the lulz value. Some static-ifs for constant booleans.

Suicide Squad

Pros- Great countdown timers on Goblin Sappers! Combined with well-timed sound effects and good AI, this is a really neat spell. Perfect example why Blizzard didn't allow sappers to be placed in Zeppelins :p Test map was just beautiful. Nice use of libraries.

Cons- The individual explosions could have been better, even the standard goblin sapper explosion would have been a better choice. There was a little bit of choppy movement at some points.

Happiness Overload

Pros- Really fascinating to see it work. Very skilled. The coding is pretty rad and done in a way I've never seen before (several libraries to compile one system). I like it, it is really well-organized!

Cons- If the dryad shot other random objects like sheep, this would have been even better. Maybe a voice-effect or two would help. The code is not the most efficient in some areas (a lot of GetFilterUnit() calls) but still great. There is a lot of lag during the explosion process.

Congrats to the winners,,,nice work with your spells, :D

I really enjoyed this contest, jeje a bit tricky on time management to finish it (I'm currently in exams). I learn many many things and I will learn much more to make spells at the high standards of THE HIVE.

NOW I will post my spell at the trigger forum and improve it. I need to learn how to use Hash Tables to replace my custume values, and also how to efficently clean memory leaks.

PS: now that the contest is over any help from you guys to improve my spell would be nice.. :D

Thanks Bribe for the judging. :)

Congratulations to Garfield1337 and Kricz for first and second place!
and also Congrats everyone for finish and submit their spell!

Now, time to wait for the next contest... Next S&SMC is on may, rite?

The honey visual effect is a bit overpowered, maybe half that amount would have been fine.
um... If only I've find a way to use that MoonWellTarget effect correctly, I won't spam many effect like that. But this one can be changed easily though...
The bear's backswing point is not in-sync with its damage point.
What's Backswing point? Never heard it before...

Great reviewing and a fantastic amount of submissions. I see potential in the minicontests again, since the zephyr ones haven't been working out that well in the later contests.

Congrats to the winner and the second placer :)
