Introduction / Author's word

Seth's Reign is a single player RPG by APproject. Map's story is based on an interpretation of The Legend of Osiris myth. Map is fully voice acted by 5 voice actors, it also contain wonderful ambient egyptish music, up to 5 tracks in total. Another features of note: many sound effects, up to 300 custom units, 18 custom hero spells and a possibility of 729 spell combinations, up tp 250 custom doodads, approximately 80 custom items and 350 custom abilities.

Gameplay may be challenging as it would require a lot of insight and effort to spot various things, such as hidden artifacts. There are two difficulty levels - normal and advanced. It is rather difficult game, so even normal mode might be challenging for some players as there are no easy walkthrough selection. Advanced mode may be harder, as enemies becomes way stronger, but advanced mode offers not only difficulty increasement, but also unlocks 1/3 of possible hero spells, providing gameplay variations.

I was planning to protect it, but I decided not to, I see no point in that considering it can be unprotected anytime. Creation of this map lasted nearly 5 months. (2012-07-11 - 2012-11-30)

Map would not be updated with new stuff, I may only fix bugs and change some things that are considered unacceptable or buggy. There might be some minor bugs that might be exploited on the occasion, I am willing to fix major ones if it is discovered. Map contains a lot of leaks, but it doesn't matter, since map is Single Player and leaks are not being noticed at all. As far as I have played, I didn't face any fatal errors and I hope there will be none. There are some transmissions with considered egyptish text, it is not egyptish, it is only an interpretation of text. As map is not protected, do with it whatever you wish, but I recommend playing map absent editing and cheating, I leave it to player's conscience.

Storyline

Story is the base of Legend of Osiris myth, basically gameplay follows its algorithm.

Here it is fully written one version of this myth that I tried to follow while making the map.

Oh my brothers and my sisters, gather around me that I may tell the tale of the Before-Time, of the Golden Age when the gods walked upon the earth with us. Know then that in those ancient days, long before even the grandfather of our Pharaoh's grandfather was born, Osiris the great-grandson of Ra sat upon the throne of the gods, ruling over the living world as Ra did over the gods. He was the first Pharaoh, and his Queen, Isis, was the first Queen. They ruled for many ages together, for the world was still young and Grandmother Death was not as harsh as she is now.

His ways were just and upright, he made sure that Maat remained in balance, that the law was kept. And so Maat smiled upon the world. All peoples praised Osiris and Isis, and peace reigned over all, for this was the Golden Age.

Yet there was trouble. Proud Set, noble Set, the brother of Osiris, he who defended the Sun Boat from Apep the Destroyer, was unsettled in his heart. He coveted the throne of Osiris. He coveted Isis. He coveted the power over the living world and he desired to take it from his brother. In his dark mind he conceived of a plot to kill Osiris and take all from him. He built a box and inscribed it with wicked magic that would chain anyone who entered it from escaping.

Set took the box to the great feast of the gods. He waited until Osiris had made himself drunk on much beer, then challenged Osiris to a contest of strength. Each one in turn would enter the box, and attempt, through sheer strength, to break it open. Osiris, sure in his power yet feeble in mind because of his drink, entered the box. Set quickly poured molten lead into the box. Osiris tried to escape, but the wicked magic held him bound and he died. Set then picked up the box and hurled it into the Nile where it floated away.

Set claimed the throne of Osiris for himself and demanded that Isis be his Queen. None of the other gods dared to stand against him, for he had killed Osiris and could easily do the same to them. Great Ra turned his head aside and mourned, he did not stand against Set.

This was the dark time. Set was everything his brother was not. He was cruel and unkind, caring not for the balance of Maat, or for us, the children of the gods. War divided Egypt, and all was lawless while Set ruled. In vain our people cried to Ra, but his heart was hardened by grief, and he would not listen.

Only Isis, blessed Isis, remembered us. Only she was unafraid of Set. She searched all of the Nile for the box containing her beloved husband. Finally she found it, lodged in a tamarisk bush that had turned into a mighty tree, for the power of Osiris still was in him, though he lay dead. She tore open the box and wept over the lifeless body of Osiris. She carried the box back to Egypt and placed it in the house of the gods. She changed herself into a bird and flew about his body, singing a song of mourning. Then she perched upon him and cast a spell. The spirit of dead Osiris entered her and she did conceive and bear a son whose destiny it would be to avenge his father. She called the child Horus, and hid him on an island far away from the gaze of his uncle Set.

She then went to Thoth, wise Thoth, who knows all secrets, and implored his help. She asked him for magic that could bring Osiris back to life. Thoth, lord of knowledge, who brought himself into being by speaking his name, searched through his magic. He knew that Osiris' spirit had departed his body and was lost. To restore Osiris, Thoth had to remake him so that his spirit would recognize him and rejoin. Thoth and Isis together created the Ritual of Life, that which allows us to live forever when we die. But before Thoth could work the magic, cruel Set discovered them. He stole the body of Osiris and tore it into many pieces, scattering them throughout Egypt. He was sure that Osiris would never be reborn.

Yet Isis would not despair. She implored the help of her sister Nephthys, kind Nephthys, to guide her and help her find the pieces of Osiris. Long did they search, bringing each piece to Thoth that he might work magic upon it. When all the pieces were together, Thoth went to Anubis, lord of the dead. Anubis sewed the pieces back together, washed the entrails of Osiris, embalmed him wrapped him in linen, and cast the Ritual of Life. When Osiris' mouth was opened, his spirit reentered him and he lived again.

Yet nothing that has died, not even a god, may dwell in the land of the living. Osiris went to Duat, the abode of the dead. Anubis yielded the throne to him and he became the lord of the dead. There he stands in judgment over the souls of the dead. He commends the just to the Blessed Land, but the wicked he condemns to be devoured by Ammit.
When Set heard that Osiris lived again he was wroth, but his anger waned, for he knew that Osiris could never return to the land of the living. Without Osiris, Set believed he would sit on the throne of the gods for all time. Yet on his island, Horus, the son of Osiris and Isis, grew to manhood and strength. Set sent many serpents and demons to kill Horus, but he defeated them. When he was ready, his mother Isis gave him great magic to use against Set, and Thoth gave him a magic knife.

Horus sought out Set and challenged him for the throne. Set and Horus fought for many days, but in the end Horus defeated Set and castrated him. But Horus, merciful Horus, would not kill Set, for to spill the blood of his uncle would make him no better than he. Set maintained his claim to the throne, and Horus lay claim himself as the son of Osiris. The gods began to fight amongst another, those who supported Horus and those who supported Set. Banebdjetet leaped into the middle and demanded that the gods end this struggle peacefully or Maat would be imbalanced further. He told the gods to seek the council of Neith. Neith, warlike though wise in council, told them that Horus was the rightful heir to the throne. Horus cast Set into the darkness where he lives to this day.

And so it is that Horus watches over us while we live, and gives guidance to the Pharaoh while he lives, and his father Osiris watches over us in the next life. So it is that the gods are at peace. So it is that Set, wicked Set, eternally strives for revenge, battling Horus at every turn. When Horus wins, Maat is upheld and the world is at peace. When Set wins, the world is in turmoil. But we know that dark times do not last forever, and the bright rays of Horus will shine over us again. In the last days, Horus and Set will fight one last time for the world. Horus will defeat Set forever, and Osiris will be able to return to this world. On that day, the Day of Awakening, all the tombs shall open and the just dead shall live again as we do, and all sorrow shall pass away forever.

One question, after entering the shrine of "ombos", the last stage after the Horus vs Seth cinematic, I arranged the mirrors of the the first chamber and a door opens to the next chamber, the second chamber has some statues on the walls that attack you with lightnings as soon as you enter the chamber, I managed to pass the attacking statues, but when I reach the door at the end of the chamber it is closed and there is nothing to attack or activate, is it a bug? the fact that the door is closed at the end of the chamber? or am I supposed to do some weird stuff to open it?

Also there are some things I wan't to point out:

- There are many spelling mistakes or typos in the descriptions and dialogues
- At the center of the Oasis there is an island with a treasure but there is no way to get there, I managed to destroy the treasure chest but couldn't get to the island.
- The first artifact keeper has an ability that hurls some sort of blue/green missile and whenever it casts it, it causes the game to lag, it happens the same thing with the artfact keeper with falcon face, whenever he hurls that windy missile (the gray sphere with black stripes that travels in a straight line).
- It would be nice if you would get at least 1 attribute point of each attribute, when leveling up, rather than raising your attributes only through the use of the "orbs".
- I wonder if you can actually maximize the ultimate ability, which has 3 levels because when I reached the shrine of ombos, I am barely at level 7 althoug I killed all the monsters before reaching that part, and my guess is that by that point the game is almost over, so I don't think you will be able to maximize your ultimate spell or reach level 9. I don't know if I'm wrong, but if I'm right about this you should increase the experience gained from monsters a little bit.

By the way, very nice map!

Bah.. How come trigger didn't work after 400 seconds, it do to me. This is really weird.

You have to open it similar way you did with mirrors. Look around, you will see a ground switch just like previous mirrors had, just without a stove, near wall. Shoot at it, then shoot at the big mirror or mirror first and then the switch, doors then shall open.

There is but one way, you will need to use a hidden item which you will be let to acquire during one of the quests.

Monsters do not provide experience. There are more orbs in entire map than you need to gain level 9, many of them are hidden as you have already figured and it means you haven't found them all. If all would have been found, you would be at around level 8 and half when entering Ombos. You should have paid more attention to details during the game I suppose.

Bug: If you bought the second bag and go to Isis with the bag not containing the body part, the cutscene plays as normal but you get to keep it.

I'd suggest removing quest items (scorpion's head, notes...) once they've served their purpose.

Does the Stolen Eye serve any purpose other than being sold? I held onto that thing for a good two-thirds of the game without ever seeing a one-eyed statue.

Seth's secondary ability says it releases an explosion if the hero dies. Does that mean Atemu or an enemy hero? Given that the game ends (unless you found a hard-to-find item) when Atemu does...

Yes. You'll need to find one of artifacts in order to use this. The artifact is capable to ressurrect hero every 60 seconds as it is seen in trailer.

Addendum to the body parts bug: subsequent returns to Isis play the lines from previous returns, and even tell you to go to the altar of Horus. But, since you already used it, the game is stuck.
Yes it is, game is once again too damn buggy. Currently I am discussing the matter with ruleofiron99, he helps me out on this matter since he provided me the bag system.

The problem is that when bags are switched, all triggers that detect a loss of item turns off, which is normal, but then these items are added to a dummy unit who keeps it until bag is switched again, meaning that dummy acquire items and triggers turns on as if hero acquired it. ruleofiron99 privided me a solution, but it is too complicated to deal with various triggers that are already turned off and are connected with item systems.

I hope to find a solution in upcoming days.

After beating the third boss (the lich), your sight range takes a massive dive (as in, Centaur Archers were attacking me from out of sight range). It makes boss fights impossible.

Also, I was sure Cheop's medallion was the reward for the obelisks, but I can't find it. There was an empty treasure chest in the room south of the three giant mummies, was it supposed to be there?

Scorpion poison lasts far too long, I'm pretty sure this one has been eating at me for well over a minute.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Nothing interact with acquisition range.

It is hidden between two graves in certain place of a tomb, look through tomb closely when you're there.

There are no empty chests. Coins must have hided behind column texture when dropped, most likely. Move your mouse at that spot and you may be able to spot it.

I wanted it realistic, so sting eats you for a while, hehe. :)

Edit1: v3.1 is out. Some minor fixes. I replaced bag system and yet into buggy one. I need to find an appropriate bag system, yet it is problematic. I am thinking of experimenting a little with these bags and perhaps I will come up with a solution, not certain though. Bag is bugged, rest shouldn't be I hope.

Edit2: Created a simple and silly bag system for one hero and only for single player at v3.2. It should work just fine, the problem is, it won't memorise its item setting positions, all will be put to one bunch, but in order of 1 to 6. It shouldn't be a problem though.

It's gone now, and I don't know what fixed it (possibly the scene when you get your final power). But the problem isn't the acquisition range, it's the sight: everything more than maybe 200 range is fog of war'd. The scorpion boss, for example, drops into your vision just in his attack range, and the lich's earth attacks don't give any warning: one appears at the edge of your vision and then under you. I grant you that it's a good way to make a battle more difficult, but not in the middle of a desert.

Also, after I killed the sandworm I came back later and saw him running around underground (as in, the dust was chasing a yellow crystal) but he didn't fight.

I think you should remove the cooldown from the teleport stone if the teleport is cancelled: during Isis' warning in Seth's Chamber, it's impossible to use it, and time is wasted waiting for it to work again, with Horus getting beat up all the while.

When did it exactly happen? Once Lich has been defeated? I doubt if there is anything interacting with sight, but I'll certainly look through triggers there.
Also, after I killed the sandworm I came back later and saw him running around underground (as in, the dust was chasing a yellow crystal) but he didn't fight.
You have to catch him. Spot his track of movement that repeats itself and stand on the dust cloud as close as you can, then it will rise up.
Horus getting beat up all the while
Don't worry, no one would attack Village as long as you don't enter it.

Nono, I had already killed the worm, its children, and its children's children. I had come back to grab the Scarab's jewel and saw the dust and moving crystal. I wasn't sure killing it again would mess with the game, so I just picked up the scarab jewel and left.

Speaking of which, the jewel at the oasis needs to be easier to find. Not only is it at the very edge, barely qualifying as "at the oasis", but it's hidden by scenery.

Hey one thing, I managed to complete the entire game (all quests completed all treasures found and all artifacts found), except for the last mission where you have to drive Seth back from the village. First of all I have to say that is a pretty annoying mission since Horus is too weak, must of the times he ends up killed by the freaking lesser minions of Seth (pretty quickly) and if Seth ends up fighting him, he dies in no time. But that is not all, after a zillion tries to win the mission, with a lot of luck I managed to kill Seth, and guess what nothing happens, no new bosses appear there's no ending cinematic and the good and evil reinforcements never cease to spawn.

I'm sure there is a bug there because I think that if Seth dies something will happen, right? the game will end or some new quest will appear.

You should do something with Horus, he should have more life and/or faster life regeneration because he dies to easily and is pretty annoying to lose the game, beacuse they kill Horus when you can't do almost anything to prevent that.

I will give a proper review, once you fix this bug, so I can finish the game.

Yes I played on ver 3.2 and the bug is in that version. Is not the bug of Seth's chamber doors, the bug is that when you kill Seth at the village, nothing happens: no quest finished, no game finished, no new bosses or quests, absolutely nothing.

I have no idea why it is like that. When I test it, it works. You have to wait 6 minutes and 40 seconds to enter next phase, for some reason it would not trigger. It do to me though, this is really weird. I checked coding, everything should go smoothly, I guess I'll try to change triggering system once again, hopefully fixing it.

Hello, this is a very nice map AProject, congrats! I have a question about the amulet's quest(in the temple), there's a room with 4 obeliscs and when you hit they set on fire, i believe something happens, tried lots of combination, can someone help?

Okay, played the map for like an hour, and I honestly think the dialogs should be skippable; so that pressing the "Esc" key would jump to the end of the dialog immediately.
These dialogs aren't really long, not long at all, only the very first one with Isis takes some time, rest are just one - few transmissions. Of course it could be skippable just for the speed, but I doubt if there is really a need for it due to rather short dialogs. Don't you agree?

Bad thing, I did die on the 2nd Artifact Keeper at the Temple, I was so near his life is red but his Green orb attacked me and died and I didnt have a save file...lol! I'll just try it again. BTW, I rate this 5/5 and also a +REP!

Oh, I just did know that the cheats are enable here and there is no protection, I should have cheated when I will die on the 2nd Artifact Keeper but I think cheating is not worth it so its ok to restart.

Then recover your hp with Tier 3 ability (sacrifice / suit / drain) or use a potion. Some items may be handy in this situation too, for example, Ankh of Undying (Artifact), Ring of the Lifebinder (Purchased at Village's shop), Royal Mummy's Omen (Can be purchased from Ra's priest). If you have troubles fighting it, teleport to Village and wait for scorpion near guards. It is not hard to overcome it if you actually do something about it.

Okay, I've already killed that big thing. We've fully recovered, and encountered two simple creeps, that both attacked us twice. This damage is all from the poision:

I definitely call it fair, and it's by no means frustrating. Some people just forget that we're not making a movie, but a video game, so there're things that are more important than realism...

That's really odd. I didn't expect these simple scorpions to deal so much damage with poison, never saw it like that though. I may reduce that poision timer, but I will keep for -Grandel's scorpion as it is now, because that's the way I wanted it to be.

Nah, those two scorpions only did like 2500-3000 damage to me in total. It's perfectly fine like that; if you think of it, the boss in the sun temple could not bring me below 1000 health, but these scorpions would have killed me twice if WC3 wasn't bugged and poisons could kill you.

Simple scorpions' venom deal nearly twice lower damage than boss thing, except that it last twice longer. It is not bugged, ability have ticked only Damage, but not Kill Unit, so it deal damage, but don't kill unit, unlike boss' ability do. Anyway, damage have been slightly reduced and timer halved for the next update.

hm... i shoot on the ground trigger in the second place of Shrine Ombos where have that big mirror. The Mirror rotate and nothing happens .-. the door don't open D:! what i do? >_>

Ill also bitch about how cheap the poison is. The boss scorpion's poison killed me from 80% hp since it ticks for 24 and last forever. and it DOES kill me. I cant wait it out. If you are this gung-ho on imitating any realism with how infinite the poison lasts, then wouldnt desert dwellers have, i dont know ANTIDOTES? You know - since hey are surrounded by scorpions?

Its a cheap gimmick.

Otherwise - good map
