Introduction / Author's word

Seth's Reign is a single player RPG by APproject. Map's story is based on an interpretation of The Legend of Osiris myth. Map is fully voice acted by 5 voice actors, it also contain wonderful ambient egyptish music, up to 5 tracks in total. Another features of note: many sound effects, up to 300 custom units, 18 custom hero spells and a possibility of 729 spell combinations, up tp 250 custom doodads, approximately 80 custom items and 350 custom abilities.

Gameplay may be challenging as it would require a lot of insight and effort to spot various things, such as hidden artifacts. There are two difficulty levels - normal and advanced. It is rather difficult game, so even normal mode might be challenging for some players as there are no easy walkthrough selection. Advanced mode may be harder, as enemies becomes way stronger, but advanced mode offers not only difficulty increasement, but also unlocks 1/3 of possible hero spells, providing gameplay variations.

I was planning to protect it, but I decided not to, I see no point in that considering it can be unprotected anytime. Creation of this map lasted nearly 5 months. (2012-07-11 - 2012-11-30)

Map would not be updated with new stuff, I may only fix bugs and change some things that are considered unacceptable or buggy. There might be some minor bugs that might be exploited on the occasion, I am willing to fix major ones if it is discovered. Map contains a lot of leaks, but it doesn't matter, since map is Single Player and leaks are not being noticed at all. As far as I have played, I didn't face any fatal errors and I hope there will be none. There are some transmissions with considered egyptish text, it is not egyptish, it is only an interpretation of text. As map is not protected, do with it whatever you wish, but I recommend playing map absent editing and cheating, I leave it to player's conscience.

Storyline

Story is the base of Legend of Osiris myth, basically gameplay follows its algorithm.

Here it is fully written one version of this myth that I tried to follow while making the map.

Oh my brothers and my sisters, gather around me that I may tell the tale of the Before-Time, of the Golden Age when the gods walked upon the earth with us. Know then that in those ancient days, long before even the grandfather of our Pharaoh's grandfather was born, Osiris the great-grandson of Ra sat upon the throne of the gods, ruling over the living world as Ra did over the gods. He was the first Pharaoh, and his Queen, Isis, was the first Queen. They ruled for many ages together, for the world was still young and Grandmother Death was not as harsh as she is now.

His ways were just and upright, he made sure that Maat remained in balance, that the law was kept. And so Maat smiled upon the world. All peoples praised Osiris and Isis, and peace reigned over all, for this was the Golden Age.

Yet there was trouble. Proud Set, noble Set, the brother of Osiris, he who defended the Sun Boat from Apep the Destroyer, was unsettled in his heart. He coveted the throne of Osiris. He coveted Isis. He coveted the power over the living world and he desired to take it from his brother. In his dark mind he conceived of a plot to kill Osiris and take all from him. He built a box and inscribed it with wicked magic that would chain anyone who entered it from escaping.

Set took the box to the great feast of the gods. He waited until Osiris had made himself drunk on much beer, then challenged Osiris to a contest of strength. Each one in turn would enter the box, and attempt, through sheer strength, to break it open. Osiris, sure in his power yet feeble in mind because of his drink, entered the box. Set quickly poured molten lead into the box. Osiris tried to escape, but the wicked magic held him bound and he died. Set then picked up the box and hurled it into the Nile where it floated away.

Set claimed the throne of Osiris for himself and demanded that Isis be his Queen. None of the other gods dared to stand against him, for he had killed Osiris and could easily do the same to them. Great Ra turned his head aside and mourned, he did not stand against Set.

This was the dark time. Set was everything his brother was not. He was cruel and unkind, caring not for the balance of Maat, or for us, the children of the gods. War divided Egypt, and all was lawless while Set ruled. In vain our people cried to Ra, but his heart was hardened by grief, and he would not listen.

Only Isis, blessed Isis, remembered us. Only she was unafraid of Set. She searched all of the Nile for the box containing her beloved husband. Finally she found it, lodged in a tamarisk bush that had turned into a mighty tree, for the power of Osiris still was in him, though he lay dead. She tore open the box and wept over the lifeless body of Osiris. She carried the box back to Egypt and placed it in the house of the gods. She changed herself into a bird and flew about his body, singing a song of mourning. Then she perched upon him and cast a spell. The spirit of dead Osiris entered her and she did conceive and bear a son whose destiny it would be to avenge his father. She called the child Horus, and hid him on an island far away from the gaze of his uncle Set.

She then went to Thoth, wise Thoth, who knows all secrets, and implored his help. She asked him for magic that could bring Osiris back to life. Thoth, lord of knowledge, who brought himself into being by speaking his name, searched through his magic. He knew that Osiris' spirit had departed his body and was lost. To restore Osiris, Thoth had to remake him so that his spirit would recognize him and rejoin. Thoth and Isis together created the Ritual of Life, that which allows us to live forever when we die. But before Thoth could work the magic, cruel Set discovered them. He stole the body of Osiris and tore it into many pieces, scattering them throughout Egypt. He was sure that Osiris would never be reborn.

Yet Isis would not despair. She implored the help of her sister Nephthys, kind Nephthys, to guide her and help her find the pieces of Osiris. Long did they search, bringing each piece to Thoth that he might work magic upon it. When all the pieces were together, Thoth went to Anubis, lord of the dead. Anubis sewed the pieces back together, washed the entrails of Osiris, embalmed him wrapped him in linen, and cast the Ritual of Life. When Osiris' mouth was opened, his spirit reentered him and he lived again.

Yet nothing that has died, not even a god, may dwell in the land of the living. Osiris went to Duat, the abode of the dead. Anubis yielded the throne to him and he became the lord of the dead. There he stands in judgment over the souls of the dead. He commends the just to the Blessed Land, but the wicked he condemns to be devoured by Ammit.
When Set heard that Osiris lived again he was wroth, but his anger waned, for he knew that Osiris could never return to the land of the living. Without Osiris, Set believed he would sit on the throne of the gods for all time. Yet on his island, Horus, the son of Osiris and Isis, grew to manhood and strength. Set sent many serpents and demons to kill Horus, but he defeated them. When he was ready, his mother Isis gave him great magic to use against Set, and Thoth gave him a magic knife.

Horus sought out Set and challenged him for the throne. Set and Horus fought for many days, but in the end Horus defeated Set and castrated him. But Horus, merciful Horus, would not kill Set, for to spill the blood of his uncle would make him no better than he. Set maintained his claim to the throne, and Horus lay claim himself as the son of Osiris. The gods began to fight amongst another, those who supported Horus and those who supported Set. Banebdjetet leaped into the middle and demanded that the gods end this struggle peacefully or Maat would be imbalanced further. He told the gods to seek the council of Neith. Neith, warlike though wise in council, told them that Horus was the rightful heir to the throne. Horus cast Set into the darkness where he lives to this day.

And so it is that Horus watches over us while we live, and gives guidance to the Pharaoh while he lives, and his father Osiris watches over us in the next life. So it is that the gods are at peace. So it is that Set, wicked Set, eternally strives for revenge, battling Horus at every turn. When Horus wins, Maat is upheld and the world is at peace. When Set wins, the world is in turmoil. But we know that dark times do not last forever, and the bright rays of Horus will shine over us again. In the last days, Horus and Set will fight one last time for the world. Horus will defeat Set forever, and Osiris will be able to return to this world. On that day, the Day of Awakening, all the tombs shall open and the just dead shall live again as we do, and all sorrow shall pass away forever.

hey man. im playing it again and it works nice! i encountered one bug so far: when i bought the 2nd inventory, the symbol "change bag" disappeared and the money was lost. i saved before so i tried with empty inventory and it worked nice. maybe its because of the full inventory =) bless
Hey, thanks. Um, I tried it myself, works fine. But I looked at coding and I spotted my mistake, I set wrong ability to a variable, but it seemed to work, in 2.1 it is fixed. Thanks. Yet I do not know if it solved your problem here.

Okay, I managed to beat the first boss on the previous version, might as well continue. I hope you didn't nerf Finger of the Sky too much, that spell is the only reason I managed to beat him.

Also, I would suggest having Spellweavers summon something other than a Tomb Stalker, like a normal skeleton or something. The reason being if you can't tell which stalkers have a timed life, you'll end up wasting spells on them.

I just reduced damage slightly, it is really too overpowered.
Also, I would suggest having Spellweavers summon something other than a Tomb Stalker, like a normal skeleton or something. The reason being if you can't tell which stalkers have a timed life, you'll end up wasting spells on them.
That's a good suggestion, I'll see what I can do about it.

The graves in Konrupt's tomb can be attacked from outside and the mummies dealt with early (I'm assuming he summons them during his fight).

Yes, it can be done.
... Annnnnd in what gets my vote for "Best Bug In The History Of Ever", Atemu is now permanently invulnerable. I think it happened as I was giving the Gold Scorpion's head back.
It have been fixed already, you should redownload the new version.

some other things i noticed.
-in the beginning the stone of teleportation is undroppable, after some time it is
-in the 2nd tomb there is a gate keeper but which gate does it keep?
-furthermore i think there should be another teleport to the 2nd tomb
-what about these obelisks of peakflame? is there something special?

I think some quests need rewording: the Symbol of the Tombs one implies the treasure is literally in the walls.

Also, the temple needs to be better indicate:d unless you happen to walk by the right place with the translated scroll it looks like a heap of rubble (I thought it was the closed gate at the western end of the desert).

Ones he opens after talking to him / killing him. You didn't notice gates behind him that are closed.

I thought about it, but settlement is so close to it as well as far from it. If I put teleportation there, it would look too small distance between tomb and settlement, if I didn't, now distance looks slightly too far.
-what about these obelisks of peakflame? is there something special?
Yes. You'll have to figure it out by yourself, try not to check through World Editor, it would be cheating!

Well, decorations of walls are not necessirly the symbol, yet I see some sense in your idea. Alright, I will rephrase it.

Welcome to critism hell.
No worries, your criticism is rather constructive and soft. I used to review maps, I was obsessed about it, reviewing all day long and I was quite harsh. I remember I put a wall of text at Diablo 3 by Cloudwolf and rated it 2/5. (for 1.17 version)
Man, you need more spells, and more heroes, and why not add multiplayer, oh, yeah, I mean, it's nice, but make it an AoS and it'll be a blast, damn! Also, too many quests, just add one - kill Seth, it's confusing right now.

If you lit first one with your one attack, then instantly shoot another one with Finger, then immediately use Mummy Sacrifice on mummy near another and finish 4th one with 1 attack (make sure it is low), you can do it.

Yes you can, it doesn't matter he lives or not. He just holds up Pothinus for some time you need to acquire the sunstone.

Maybe you have already fixed it but in 2.0 version (maybe earlier versions aswell) the first artifact you aquire in the first tomb does not have a cooldown, it says it should have 50 sec cooldown. So you can keep up the 100% miss chance at all times basically.

Wow, how is that even possible? I really did put an additional ability to the item that would ruin this cooldown, magic happens or something. Thank you for the report.

Concerning the soul-release necklace:

A timer would be really useful to know whether you can make it to safety/dry land or not.
The south wall of the scarab temple can be accessed via soul, allowing you to literally go inside the walls. There wasn't anything there, but if you feel like adding an extra secret there you really should (using invisible platforms so you can climb the temple walls and such).

I didn't play much of this map but it was pretty good!

I liked how you were able to choose your spells^^

Optional Kill Giant Snake Quest:

You can make the snake follow you to the town lol, did you intent to make the snake able to follow that far?

Optional: Set the Selection Scale of Villagers to -1.00 to hide their HP bars but keep them on for the monters and bosses.
 
Although I haven't finished the whole thing yet, (because I pulled of a classic move by forgetting to save and dying) the map is well made. The atmosphere is effective, the terrain is detailed, and altogether the map is very immersive. My one gripe is the writing, it seemed pretty choppy. However that is no reason to give the map a bad review, as It isn't nearly choppy enough to ruin it. For people complaining about the map being to simple, this type of map is obviously not made for you. If you ask me, trying to pull of tons of advanced features in WC3 that can't really be pulled off is a mistake. And I don't care if your sell screen looks large and shiny and takes up the whole screen. I've tried to play the WC3 maps that go crazy on features, and I don't find them fun. All the effort seems to be put into features and advanced abilities but not the story, the immersiveness, atmosphere and such things that really make the game fun for me. If your looking for a revolutionary game with stunning combat and shiny interface, do what I do and buy it from a company. (Although I do think the custom UI was great.) I see this map as a simple map meant to tell a story and give you a few hours of fun. And it accomplished that.

A timer would be really useful to know whether you can make it to safety/dry land or not.
The south wall of the scarab temple can be accessed via soul, allowing you to literally go inside the walls. There wasn't anything there, but if you feel like adding an extra secret there you really should (using invisible platforms so you can climb the temple walls and such).
I got your point, timer would accompany well, but I'm not sure if it is worth it, considering timer is so small. Really? Hmm. You mean that temple of second keeper?
You can make the snake follow you to the town lol, did you intent to make the snake able to follow that far?

Optional: Set the Selection Scale of Villagers to -1.00 to hide their HP bars but keep them on for the monters and bosses.
That's a good idea, I'll check that out.
Although I haven't finished the whole thing yet, (because I pulled of a classic move by forgetting to save and dying) the map is well made. The atmosphere is effective, the terrain is detailed, and altogether the map is very immersive. My one gripe is the writing, it seemed pretty choppy. However that is no reason to give the map a bad review, as It isn't nearly choppy enough to ruin it. For people complaining about the map being to simple, this type of map is obviously not made for you. If you ask me, trying to pull of tons of advanced features in WC3 that can't really be pulled off is a mistake. And I don't care if your sell screen looks large and shiny and takes up the whole screen. I've tried to play the WC3 maps that go crazy on features, and I don't find them fun. Also, got the first half of the obelisk puzzle to work (sometimes), but how the hell are you supposed to kill it before it goes away? Stun spells don't work on it.

What do you mean? You manage to destroy only 2 obelisks and it goes away then? Or you manage to light them all and then an orb appears and you cannot kill it? It really depends on your spells here. It is the most difficult to achieve if only Horus spells are used I noticed, perhaps you shouldn't upgrade Finger to level 3 due to its cooldown, because once Obelisks are lit, your Finger is on a cooldown and you cannot strike down an orb. There is a scroll that unlearns abilities at the Temple of Ra so that you don't have to resart game, but it will cost you. When orb is destroyed, you acquire an artifact, yet the weakest among the rest in my opinion, and hardest to achieve, hehe.

I have Finger of the Sky level 2, summon mummies, Fire Suit, Arcane Fire and Pulse of Sun. What I do is park Atemu next to one of the side obelisks, attack the far one, FotS and PoS the top and bottom obelisks and attack the last one. The problem is that once the orb appears, it doesn't stay long enough to take enough damage. I managed to attack once, with two mummies helping, but didn't manage to get to less than half life (again, spell cooldowns).

This is a supreme masterpiece, nothing more.(And what others said.)
I especially love that there is a narrator and voice actors.Didn't see that in a while...I also like how you have to wander the map and find orbs to level up instead of infinite farm.
You should add "the talking portrait" when someone is speaking, you can still control hero except whatever you select something you will see "the talking portrait".I've seen I don't know how to do it.

Some bugs:
1.1 second cooldown for that 100% evasion item (fixed)
2.tablet leaves a permanent berserk buff (fixed?)
3.I doubt that "7% god strike" (green effect?) is only 7% (every second attack/spell instant kill, lol)
4.creeps will follow you unit you or they die (not an actual bug I guess...)
5.5th spell (Ra) (active/passive, 500 instant damage) can target villagers (and yourself I think) and kill them lol

Some suggestions:
1.when a creep goes xxxx range from it's "home" teleport it back with full hp and mana
2.5th spell passive immolation should have a longer dmg period, since 5 dmg every 0.25 sec=28% god strike every second for all melee attackers
3.mummies and other units of yours (Abakadu(?) the guy you get when you help him) should teleport with you
4.add a camera command so you could change the camera angle/distance

Btw:How long did it take you to make the map?(terrain, harvest resources, imports etc.)

That would be useful, but then Log would bug and you will be forced to see empty lines there. It happens when a transmission is being sent without camera mode. Long time ago this way text used to appear, for some reason it do not anymore.

True, I noticed that, it comes slightly too powerful and this might solve it.

2012-07-11 - 2012-11-30, nearly 5 months. Of course there were plenty day offs so it would have taken way less.

So I started exploring the final tomb, and can I just say the terrain is great (just slightly disappointed the statues and dead bodies don't rise to attack you).

Is there supposed to be anything behind the giant face where you pick up the Darkbreaker?

Issue with the boulder: I'm guessing you have to avoid it by dashing into the indentation in the wall, but I was able bypass it entirely by stepping to the right (well, top wall). Also, the sound it makes sounds like an emptying sink, not very appropriate.

I only managed to answer the third riddle, does he give you an item if you answer all three?

The red crystal near Sutekh isn't affected by the Darkbreaker, and attacking it does nothing (also, attacking it targets the pole rather than the crystal itself)

It doesn't matter how you avoid it as long as you find a way. I couldn't get a better sound for a rolling stone.

No, if one riddle is answered, he will let you go, if all missed, you die. Nothing really else hide behind this.

It is not?? Ugh, it means you cannot complete map. But I was sure triggers were set properly. I'll check it out. And pole is attacked because crystal is just a destructuble rised from its position to the air, that's why its base is attacked. Thanks.

Edit: v3.0 now will allow players to fully finish the map, it is truly sad that rest versions could not be completed. :( Thanks to you, cleavinghammer. Yet additional bag trouble my mind, it seem to work for me just fine and there is nothing mysterious about triggers there, but for some it disappears, I cannot figure it out. Bag is based on a berserker ability, perhaps it happens to have another berserker ability, but I checked all hero spells and it do not have a berserker among them.

Fixed last doors' stone, now it will be affected by the Darkbreaker
Fixed Additional Bag's buff and slightly edited its setup, still cannot figure out why bag disappears, it do not for me

Yay Abubakar can help me now kill all bosses after the "lich" one!

Bag bug:it only works if you buy it WHILE HAVING NO ITEMS
empty inventory+buy ability=you get the ability
not empty=ability disappears
Too bad passive abilities from items that are in the inventory that you aren't using at that moment don't work...

Just order the hero to go next to the location of red crystal and he will find the hole.I forgot where the hole is...You will actually go on black terrain, lol.
When you reach the red crystal go right.Just go up right(next to some stairs etc.) and all of a sudden you get a quest to return to the village and defend it.That's how much I got so far...

Orrrrrrrrrr... I have to go again to the chamber (after I defend the village) which makes it unfinishable? :(
And could you reduce the collision of that "seth servant" (the one you get from 3 crystals) so he can pass that path to the chamber?Ge gets stuck at the beginning of it=he can't reach set's chamber...

damn I write a lot sometimes.

So you entered Seth's chamber? Yes, after saving village you must go there, but you'll need v3.0 in order to make gates open, but you found a hole somewhere.
And could you reduce the collision of that "seth servant"
It is really small, but I'll reduce. Saw it stacking too though.

Oh, I found some bugs when I use my trick!

Bug 1 : When I encounter the first boss (sorry I can't remember his name right now) to kill it and bring a leg to my Goddess, I don't enter his chamber, 'cos I think I can defeat it with my trick. I summoned a mummy and move it to the coffin, and the boss apeared, try to kill me with his skill, I hit and run attack and defeated him outside the door. When I completed this quest and was rewarded, I accept the second main quest and enter this room by myseft. Suddenly, the door close, and I remain inside, I countinued my quest with a second door behind but I know I can't return tu my Goddess of light, the teleport Item can't be use rightnow. Help me, what can I do for now?

Bug 2 : I'm not sure this is a bug or not. the first reward spell, I choose Ra's spell and this is very Imbalance, i mean the explosion, I can kill everyone that tough me in one hit.

Thanks for your help, this is a greatest RPG ever.

If you can't handle that boss, you can use your Mummy to kill it, very easy.. but you won't be able to continues =.= because the door.

Buy potions at Village. Looks around town and desert for additional coins if you lack it.
Why don't you use the food indicator to show the quests progress in percentage?
Nice idea, but I doubt if there is a need for it. At the very beginning it is clear that you are to find 4 pieces and encounter Seth, so you basically know that rhythm and what follows.
Anyway i played this map and cheated WHOSYOURDADDY!....but i dont even detected!!!...you must ensure your anti-cheating matter dude...

The location of hole is somewhere at the "2nd breeding" (left from that place you meet the guy who wants 3 items)
I managed to take some screenies while playing (I almost forgot about them)

I can't find a hole! :ogre_rage: I checked all walls carefully, no spot to go through, especially first two pictures, it is covered with a solid cliff and I have no idea how you went through it, but the fact is, you did.

I almost forgot to mention:
Buff Sky Titans HP and HP regen.Reason:I killed him without the orb :D
And nerf all stats buffs from "body parts" since they are easily abused.
Great example is the "head".+75 willpower=+75 dmg=>60+75=135 base dmgX4 (Ra: Flaming suit +400% dmg)=>540 dmg+100% bonus attack speed=kill

You can't kill Seth in 400 seconds, or can you? After 400 seconds Horus and Seth disappears and an another boss shows up. After its death, you are to go back to chamber and face Seth.
Abubarak disappeared after the fight between Seth and Horus cinematic played :(, but there were still 2 food used, lulz
Will be fixed in v3.1.
