Ok, I read on equestria daily today that someone is modding starcraft to add ponies as a fourth race. I didn't know anyone had the tools import custom models, anyone heard anything about this?

Statharas got me a link to some custom tools and apparently they can also be used to import models to starcraft 2 (and to open models from starcraft 2 to have the right settings and custom material). It's on SC2Mapster though, which seems to be having some trouble at the moment. If the site comes back I'm pretty sure it can be found here.

Got a link to that thread on Equestria Daily? I want to see if I can help them out if needed. Also I'm just curious to see if they can get the race to look right when imported into Starcraft 2 with the difference in style and all that stuff.

SC2Mapster died long ago, now I cant ask them some texture and data related questions. (Maybe it is because they already got the opinion the board on which the site is run is horrible and so are the forum codes and are now working on bringing something new)

And yes 2 days ago I got that exporter plugin for 3ds max work after sc2mapster died and I had to figure out what I did wrong myself. Actually I even made experiments with a Pony model in sc2, it looks all shiny and magical, and that only with a diffuse texture, sc2 knows how to make things look cool ^^

So a pony race eh? I don't mind it, would sure love to see some awesome terrain and ponies in sc2 :>

I don't have models of ponies, I was just testing M3 export with one of the pony models I found in the open-source Blender game and how it would look in SC2. I made a specular and normal maps out of it but never used them. And besides, for unknown reason two parts of the model (half of the head is one of them) are transparent like you can see the inside of it, in the editor's Previewer and ingame, also the animations are lost from converting blend to OBJ imported in 3ds max. I could still show how shiny it looks in-game if you insist. Someone could make decent ponies, though.

MLP is definitely a meme. Its not a bad thing to be a meme. Its popular on the internet, its an image macro, its funny; so by definition, it is.

Can a show be a meme though? I still see it as a show that just happened to create a lot of memes and is used in combination with a lot of memes (where I see for example image macros as being the meme and this show to be the subject of that meme). It kind of feels like saying Star Wars is a meme just because it's used a lot in combination with other memes and spawned quite a few.

I do have to say that I'm ok with that top spot on Know Your Meme though, since it might get others to watch the show for that reason. The downside would be the people thinking others watch it simply for being a meme, but in this case I think the upsides beat the downsides.

There are hate groups for about anything on dA, but most of these are pretty much doomed because nobody is going to spend all his/her time focusing on something he/she dislikes. Spamming a user's profile because they dislike something is pretty counterproductive, because it will only give haters more of a reason to hate the subject. However, I do have one problem with the group and that is not that it's a hate group against something I like, but that it's a hate group against something that is made by another dA user (Lauren Faust). Still I guess it's better to just leave them, the members of that group, be and do whatever makes them happy.

I always find hate groups hilarious because they often turn out being horribly counter-productive and hypocritical since most sensible people don't want to devote their time to something they hate as Billy said.
