Story

The Humans of the Empire, who fought the Demon invaders for years, after the end of the so called Voidwar, now face a new strong invasion force. New ships have arrived from the other side of the Great Sea and the Humans prepare to defend themselves against the incoming invasion.
Command General Blen Greymoore, one of the best generals of the Empire, and his allies and face the new Demon Invasion. Defend the kingdoms and defeat the ruthless and merciless Legions.

Campaign Series Info

The Legends of Arkain is a campaign series which takes place on the world Arkain.
The races of Arkain fight against the demon invaders, who try once again to enslave every being on Arkain. The Humans, the Orcs and the Undead will have to make a stand against them... or face complete annihilation or enslavement by the Demons.
This campaign series will consist of actually three different series. There will be a Human, an Orc and an Undead campaign series. They will all run in the same timeline but will present three different stories and outcomes. When they are all finished, it's completely up to you, who wins this conflict.
Those, who win the war, will write the history.

Features

- Three different storylines/campaign series
Take control of one of the three factions, the proud Humans of the Empire, the plundering and strong Orc Clans or the mysterious Undead Nexus and their endless army of the dead, and face the demonic invasion as well as other struggles that await you.
- New units
Command units, you already know, as well as completely new units with new upgrades and abilities.
- Decide the fate of Arkain
At some points of the campaigns, you'll have the opportunity to decide things, that affect the storyline, characters and sometimes even the chapters you play or how you have to play them. By doing or, well, not doing certain side quests, you can also affect the campaign.
- Three difficulties
You can play the campaign in either easy, normal oder hard difficulty, just like in the original WC3 campaigns. It will impact on the AI difficulty and scripting as well as other minor changes.
In easy version, for example, the AI won't rebuilt lost buildings.

- Full Jass AI
In this campaign series, every single AI is written in Jass instead of being created with the AI editor. This makes the AI more intelligent.
- Universal Hero hotkeys
All hero abilities use the QWER hotkeys.

Factions

The Human Empire
There have always been Humans on Arkain. The Human kingdoms and their allies, the Elves and Dwarves, have fought the Demons for centuries while also being attacked by orc pillagers. They had no chance against the demons and were already close to annihilation, when the Empire showed up.
They came over the Great Sea in the west and saved the kingdoms, who immediately joined the Empire in return. The Humans still fight the Demons and more and more of them join the fight against their old suppressors.
The Humans already tried to get rid of the Demons for good, but they failed. However, they continue fighting and won't stop until there are no humans or enemies of humanity anymore.
The current Emperor is Theodor the Second.

The Orcish Clans

Legends say that the Orcs hail from another continent and then spread all over the kingdoms. But not even the oldest Orcs can tell, if that's the true or the Orcs have been here all the time, just like the other races.
But it is known that the united clans attacking absolutely everything and everyone they met and conquered a large territory. It did work for a while, but not long. The other races, especially the Demons, who were very angry about that insult, brought the fight to them and massacred half of the green skins.
The Orcs had to retreat and lost much of their territory. The only reason, why half of them are still there, is that their enemies fought among each other as well.
The Orc Clans allied with the Trolls, to increase their strengh, but still didn't manage to gather an army, that was comparable to their old numbers. Since they weren't able to begin their another huge conquest, the clans stopped working together and some old rivalries amongst the clans became important again.
Still, they managed to raid the other races and remain an annoyance for the other factions. There are still many Orcs left, which could prove to be a strong force, if they'd be united under a strong leader.

The Undead Nexus

The Undead are the most mysterious race of Arkain. Of course, necromancers and necrolytes are not unknown and have always summoned some undead servants to do their bidding, but the Undead as a complete race are a mystery to all creatures.
Once, a group of mighty necromancers, who became insane because of their immense power, believed they could rule the world with an army of the Living Dead. However, only days after they began attacking the Human kingdoms, they simply vanished. Their armies were gone and only the remains of the corpses were proof, that they ever existed.
What no mortal and no Demon knows, is, that a powerful Archlich, Aridon the Watcher, self-proclaimed guardian of Arkain, took care of them. He has the ability to take control of every Undead, he wants to control. He uses this power only, to make sure, that besides him is no one, who can form a real army of Undead. He always made the Undead kill their masters and reanimated them as his loyal servants.
The only mighty Undead, not currently living on the Dead Mountain, are guarding old temples and ruins, which contain artifacts, not meant to fall in the hands of neither mortals nor Demons. Still, they all call Aridon their master.
Aridon and his Undead live on the so called Dead Mountain, which lies within the Human kingdoms. Every sent expedition on this mountain never returned, so the Humans decided to simply ignore it and built a garrison to watch over the only entrance to the mountain.
Aridon claims to be as old as the world itself and has seen the rise and fall of races and nations. His goal is to maintain the balance of the world - or at least, what he sees as balance. He stayed out of every conflict and only watched for millenia.
But recent events force Aridon to end his idleness and take action himself instead of only manipulating others. He'll have to make the world know about the Undead - and give reason to fear them.

The Demon Legions

If there are any creatures besides the Undead Lord Aridon, who are as old as Arkain itself, than it must be the Demons. These creatures have been the bane of Arkain for a long, long time. If their history contains anything else than attacking and enslaving other races, than only the Demons know about it.
Every Demon Legion is lead by its most powerful Dreadlord. Who is the one, who commands all Legions, is unknown to every non-demon.
The Demons' realm lies in the East of the continent and is seperated by a bottomless rift, the so called Void. No one, except for Demons and their slaves, has ever been on the other side of the Void. The Void is so heavy fortified by the Demons, that they managed to block every attack there. The Void is also the place where the Imperial Army was defeated during their Great Attack.
Now, the Demons seem to begin another great offensive against the other races. And this time, they are determined to be victorious and won't show any mercy.

SPOILER
Edited by StoPCampinGn00b: Please, if you have spoilers use hidden tags or make it more visible instead of the indicator being in a middle of a sentence. As you all could tell by the huge spoiler sign I've put up, this comment contains major spoilers.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
How could i be so stupid ? How could i let him fool me like that ? Damn i was SURE that *Spoiler* Gardon was the traitor ! But i was wrong ... you wont get away with this Ganethas i swear !
I was sure i was following the ''right'' path (Aside from making Aedale a demon of course)
I mean Gardon is distrusted by everyone and is ruthless and on top of that he wanted to use necromancers and demon magic

Aside from that you may want to tweak map 5 and 9 which are VERY hard, map 5 i managed with 3 hours and a buttloads of loads of course, there is no unit in my army to counter those damn infernals

Edit : I didnt said had i thought about the campaing
Its AWESOME
The choices add so much replay value, the history is good and involving
Im gonna have a second playthought right away
Is there a release date for book 2 ?
Im looking forward to play it

Obs : Almost forgot Salana forked lighting says ''Calls forth a cone of lighting from the SEA WITCH'' you may want to change it to ''Ranger'' :D

-Just because someone isn't liked doesn't mean they're the bad guy.
-Those two chapters are meant to be hard and I can't get Shar to budge on Chapter five.
-The release is a long time away, I try to test as soon as I can so you guys and gals can play this stuff.
*Glances at Shar* The ability descriptions will get changed.

Since Kasrkin already answered to your questions, I don't have to add anything. ;)
Oh, wait, I might have to add something. I consider making Chapter Five (and perhaps even Chapter Nine) a bit easier.
I'm currently focusing on the First Orc Book, so this could take a while.

Gardon is the kind of person who would do the necessary thing for the right reason no matter what, definitely not the type of other people (unlike Blen who is good looking, brave, always charging) but after all, that makes Gardon a true leader among generals.
Btw, Gardon has the right to execute Genethas - a veteran who survived the Void War (shown during the Interlude), so he'll simply execute Blen for betraying him (even when he was fooled) in the next story (if chosen wrongly), am I correct? (Hard to believe Gardon will leave all of them alone what they did in Chapter 11)

I dont know i think he have ulterior motives Genethas wasnt all wrong, he really do wants power.
I think he is hiding something, hes not a hero or protagonist that im sure
Even at the Derryn outpost i had the feeling that he was using me
I even go as far as to say that he also knew the attack but didnt made nothing to ensure the outpost was destroyed and he would had acess to that cave
Still i regret siding with Genethas
I originally went with Gardon but then i think ''Hes going to just use me, im not that dumb'', watched the cinematic again and then went with Genethas
There is a line where Genethas say ''Go and tell that Greymoore isnt his puppet, unlike the rest of his men''
How clever so instead of being Gardon puppet i become yours T_T

Hi! So I haven't finished the campaign yet, but I already love it. Only one thing disappoints me, though; in mission 2, it says the Orc army arrives in 30 minutes, but you don't actually get to fight them. That annoys me immensely; I thought I'd get to fight a losing battle. I even saved three minutes before, so that I could fight the battle after I win the mission. Just thought I'd say that. I assume I'm not the only one disappointed, so I thought I'd share it. :)

@ngxkhoi and doceshivas: I'm glad to see that you enjoyed the campaign so much that you are discussing it here. I can't tell you more about this, however, without giving too many spoilers. ;)

@Idragogode297: I see your point but if I'd simply send an army, there's still the slight possibility that you survive somehow while you're supposed to lose.

That was pretty much the point. :p
Defeating an unbeatable army is something that's fun to try and accomplish.

The campaign is quite amazing!
Terrain looked plain and simple, not quite interesting but since I played on hard so I was clicking continuously and paid little attention to it.
There were some minor bugs such as when you pressed esc while movies were played.
The branch story is quite amazing. I could not understand them all in one run.
Since campaign will be fixed in the future I can give 5/5 for this campaign.

By the way,....
1. I had not read about campaign description on the first page before finishing the campaign... I found out that "character tag" was a spoiler. There should have 1 more character who is crucial on the last mission beside another one.
2. On last mission, Is there a path to defeat both or the red force? I feel as if they both were trolling against player. The red one is interesting to fight as well but I don't know which path I have to take..
3. My first impression about this map is nothing else but the campaign size... I mean ..really? 10MB with almost 5/5 rating.

Edited: I checked every single details up to chapter 5.. now
I can say that there are many holes such as scripts & area.
Compared the campaign to others.
The advantages are choices, plots and places where important objects were placed.
The downsides are graphic, terrain, uncompleted triggers, large area for nothing, unwell testing (1M gold mine, etc.)

Do you remember the missions this happened in?

In mission where a player gets the first shard... if one chooses "leave it", conversation speed will be as if it was unstable.

By the way..
The last mission, Is Aedale + critter + tank an overpowered combo?
The mission is too easy with that. However, on my first run, the battle was bloody hell because I didn't have Aedale.

There's no way to do so unless you want to be a team killer.

3. My first impression about this map is nothing else but the campaign size... I mean ..really? 10MB with almost 5/5 rating.

Well, since this is a campaign and no multiplayer map, size is amongst the most unimportant things here.

Glad you enjoyed playing the campaign. :)

One of the best campaigns ever played i liked the story much ... Choosing ur path was awesome too ... Chapter 5 and Chaphter 9 was Insane... i lost hope to complete this campaign in chapter 5 especially because i found no way to defeat Orange as when i try to kill the soldiers that defend the base ... they are trained again. and when i aim its Castle i found out that all Green`s Army Starts to help him.. the same happened when i reached to Green`s Castle .. yellow helped him. anyway i found out that its no way to make it alone ... These Elves allies are useless especially Lady Riana .. she isnt even a hero just a normal Sorceress ... i could finish dat chapter only with Gardon`s help. Waiting for ur other Campaigns/Books ;) keep it up.

Yeah, Gardon is the only ally that brings any actual heavy hitters. Beating this mission without him is a bit ridiculous.

As for other books, there are currently four chapters available for public play for the first Orc book. The fifth will be available soon. (TM)

Stuck on chapter 6

Hey, I'm enjoying this campaign it's very well done.

Atm I'm stuck on chapter 6 and I don't know how to proceed. I'm in a small room with an invulnerable enemy hero, he doesn't attack me or do anything. I don't see anything in the room to interact with. The waygate that let me in won't even let me out.
A screenshot of the room: https://imgur.com/hBZLX8t

Maybe I missed something obvious but any help is appreciated.
Cheers

Hm, strange.
How exactly did this happen? Have you skipped the cinematic or something? Have you tried to play the chapter again?

I probably skipped the cinematic, I usually do.
I haven't tried playing the chapter again.

I'll see if I have an earlier save so I can test the cinematic thing.
thanks

Loaded a save before the cinematic of that room, watched the cinematic and it worked.
thanks for the suggestion

Ps. Enjoyed the cinematic, I think I'll not skip the rest of them.

Campaign's great one, love the alt story & ending
However,I need upgrade on Gardon & Blen bad :(
+ Gardon : his Ult (War Aura) so damn OP (70% damage boost, really?)
Glad he ain't leading the last battle and let Salana do
+ Blen : may be you can replace his current Passive (Command Aura) & Ultimate (Avatar)
by Thorn Aura (maybe Bash ?) and some "area-damage or area-effect" ultimate
I'm quite afraid of the strength Gardon & Blen's combined damage-boost passive
it stacks up to 100% (70% of War Aura + 30% of Command Aura) damage to all units around
Really,Shad o_O ?
By the way, apart of spells, cinematic prob and difficulty
I think this campaign is the great one, though
rate it 4/5
maybe you think I'm little "rude" or somethin'
but I compared it to tomoraider's campaign and you still many upgrade to work on,true ?
so sorry if I said somethin' letting you down

There's only one chapter with both Gardon AND Blen playable. Both Blen and Gardon will get some new spells, but I haven't intended to change their ultimates or auras so far. Yes, Gardon's Aura might give 70% but it's a passive ulti so it's absolutely justified in my opinion.

No offense taken.

Something that really bothers me
The last chapter is complete watered down, the enemy forces have much less hp than your units, my heroes ally also have much more hp than the enemy
In hard version i think you should change your ally heroes (Independant of who you allied) to have less hp than the enemy
For exemple Merlon have 2375 hp while the random paladins have 1725
Counciler Birram with 2275 hp while random archmages have 1485 hp
If you ally Gardon for exemple you want to lower their hp while increasing of the enemy to make it more challenging

JUst finished the campaign and my impression is wow! I liked every bit of it, aside from that hardass high elf defense mission(Almost ragequit one point :ogre_hurrhurr:).
And one question: Is it possible to carry out our choices would change somethings in the next campaigns?? Cuz I wanna see what my choices would lead to.

Hey man, just finished the campaign recently, great job!

A question, what would you say is the official cameo of the story? My guess is all the first choices given but I wanna hear what you have to say.

The canon you mean?
I'll post the canon choices for the released Books once the Orc Book is released as well.

Dude that elven chapter is insane, that vampire elf is pumping out infernals at insane rate, 3 infernals are enough to wreck your entire army, you basically have no counter against it and it's immune to half of your troops and no wai you can defeat 7 of them with maxed army, then there are hordes of doom guards causing additional trouble if infernals aren't enough, the ally reinforcements are laughable

Loved it. Absolute blast so much so that I spent all day playing it and beating it which... is not something I have done in quite sometime. The missions were interesting, most of the characters were diverse and engaging, and the story was great seeing as it is the 'intro' campaign for the grand story which, if the trend keeps up, is going to be a masterpiece.

Potential Spoilers (Although I don't think there is but better safe than sorry.)

Potential Spoilers

Last Warning for Spoilers....

I adored Gardon and thought he was an amazing character, and I truly enjoyed every mission that I was able to utilize him, by and far, my favorite character so far. (Although, his aura stacks with Command Aura making him... a.... bit... strong... I gave him the Shield of Honor I had picked up earlier for a 80% increase to everyone's damage turning him and his men into a walking ball of DOOM!). I can only hope that in the next human campaign (depending on what happens) we get to see more of him, his interactions with other characters such as the Elven Ranger and his history as, out of them all, his history seems to have the most promise of a story.

On the flip side... Greymoore was... boring. He really seems like the incredibly generic 'hero' perhaps you did that on purpose by making him rather... 'empty' it allows the player a more immersive feel by 'becoming' Greymoore a little easier much like how people enjoy Keanu Reeves in action movies due to his rather 'blank slate'? I felt the other characters were far more interesting and that he was overshadowed by their more... colorful personalities. I won't tell you how to write your story as you are doing a wonderful job, but I just felt I should say that as what seems to be the 'main character' of the human stories is being vastly overshadowed by the more interesting human campaign characters: Gardon, Elven Ranger, the vengeful dwarf, the young mage with something to prove, the cautious paladin and even the, sometimes grating, aggressive old mage. I applaud you for being able to make me feel so attached to most of the characters, and I was very, very, very, very invested in the turnout for the final mission and praying that my beloved anti-hero was, indeed, an anti-hero and nothing farther into the dark side... yet.

Overall, I really, really enjoyed it and loved it. I look forward to playing your Orc campaign when you are finished!

Did I read that right? The orcs actually get an overpowered base when the emissary escapes? Sweet!

I wouldn't call it overpowered. Also, the timer still remains.

I can give you - and everyone else interested - a little spoiler for this:
Gardon will be a main character in the next Human Book. More important than in the First Book. ;)

From the very beginning, Blen was supposed to be the colorless hero, focusing on nothing but the war. He's a paradigm for the soldiers and therefore has to act like this. It's true that, compared to other characters, he may be the most uninteresting, but it doesn't fit his personality to push himself forward to become more interesting. Also, I didn't want the player to be pushed to certain directions when it comes to choices.

Overall, I really, really enjoyed it and loved it. I look forward to playing your Orc campaign when you are finished!

I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback. Should you be interested in the demo of the Orc Book, click here. At the moment, it includes everything but the final chapter and still needs a few fixes, but most of it is done.

That... is wonderful! I am now looking forward to next book even more than I already was.

Ah, I understand. By making him into a neutral 'gray', the player is open to choose whatever they feel like without that outside influence of the characters... well... character in it or otherwise feeling like the betrayed a central aspect of the character and shatter the fourth wall. Makes sense, and the side characters do a very good job at carrying the story aspect and being endearing.

And with Gardon being a major central character of Human Book 2, I am not sure I will have anything to nitpick with. :(

Ah, who am I kidding? I will download it shortly and probably spend all day playing it as I always enjoy Orcs.

First mission: terrain is nice, if a bit flat, but the only real issue is that the map borders are too sudden, especially jarring in cutscenes.

Other than that and a few grammar problems, this is off to a good start.

The second mission spawned two messenger groups at once, was that supposed to happen?

Seventh mission: the ship-building main quest updates call it a side quest called "Treasure Hunting".

Eighth mission: killing the demon lord causes a bunch of units to show up and join without any explanation.

Ninth mission: For some reason, batriders are sometimes unselectable and sometimes these have no model (units still attack them though). Not sure about the reinforcements, they tend to screw up you upkeep more than anything else.

Okay, beat it once, now to go back and get the other missions.

Overall, the campaign is very high quality, story is interesting, as are the characters (although the final mission has Gardon doing his best Champion of Khorne impression without being present on the battlefield, which is weird), not too many bugs and glitches, grammar and spelling remain readable.

The major problem is the terrain: vast expanses of it are flat, monotonous and just boring. It doesn't affect gameplay, but it's just ugly and distracting.

Will fix that.

Eighth mission: killing the demon lord causes a bunch of units to show up and join without any explanation.

There are no units showing up and joining suddenly. Your units are only moved to another position.

Ninth mission: For some reason, batriders are sometimes unselectable and sometimes these have no model (units still attack them though). Not sure about the reinforcements, they tend to screw up you upkeep more than anything else.

The Batrider model still causes some problems. Might have to replace it although I thought it was fixed.

Yeah, terrain is a little problem, I'm well aware of that. Perhaps I'll do something about it.
