Anyone play DoTa? I like warcraft 3 but my favorite in it is Dota, if there's already a thread like these please just tell me. -_-
 
Just remember not to mention DotA in this forum...

DotA is not that popular around other mapmakers because it is so popular that most other maps have no change... and it is popular for nothing.. the game itself is not that great and the community consists of 80% ***holes!!!
 
DotA is perfectly fine to mention anywhere on this site as long as it is within the topic of the section mentioned in. People who say you can not do not run this site and should be ignored.

We do not have any rules against DotA atleast that I know of, however we do have rules against people acting stupid and flaming or spamming threads.
 
Dota is a fine game, but there are people who become too serious with it and become ass****s, which is a reason a lot of people hate the game. I have nothing against Dota, it isnt boring and for all i know has some decent strategy usage spells. (I find that people who are not good at a game do not like it. :P my friend used to hate dota when he couldn't play it)

You got that 1st part right... this is reason why i stopped playing dota... ppl take it too serious. And mappers hate DotA coz it doesnt use anything good; only recipe system. There few maps that are way better than DotA, like Desert of Exile or Age of Myths. But DotA was popular before, and thats why its popular today. I liked dota before, before versions 6.20 i think... now its unbalanced and sucky :D . Anyway, i wont play dota anymore i think... there are plenty of maps that are better than dota, so i cant go back to dota, its like playing wc1, and then you go to wc3, will you go back to wc1 ? I doubt it. Its a shame for ppl that take that map too seriously... so sad... thats blocking all of us "other" ppl to have fun.

My bad, I take responsibility for this misunderstanding. It's just that I sense future bickering in this thread composed of loving and hating of Dota... the usual, oh well, my apologies again.

I mean, if it weren't for Dota WC3 would be a thing of the past. I don't know why some people actually play the real WC3 strategy game. I mean if I was just that I'd rather buy a SC game than WC3.

Name what maps you tried?

My issues with DotA are: It's over-played. It's taking up space that could be filled with better maps.

Many of it's skills are frankly boring, as with many of it's heroes. Take the Pandaren Battlemaster for example.

1) Take melee hero.
2) Remove all synergy.
3) ???

Where does that get fun?

It has a massive number of under-developed heroes, who could have benefited from more work. Many of it's (better) ideas are blatant theft.

So overall, it's over-done, poorly made, and just . . . boring.

Ok, here's the whole synergy argument again. Most DotA players I know have validly proved this argument wrong countless times, so I'll do it again right now. DotA does not have direct synergy and is not supposed to. THAT IS A GOOD THING. Direct synergy is boring as hell. Most heroes in DotA have certain spells and abilities that are supposed to give their hero a certain role in gameplay. For example the pandaren brewmaster is a chaser tank, and his role is to chase enemy heroes down the lane, under heavy fire, and escape.

Thunder Clap: A nice slowing nuke with a short cooldown that can be used to keep enemy heroes in range of the Panda's attacks.
Drunken Brawler: A nice combination of effects that allows the Panda to stay alive longer during chases (evasion) and do more damage to his target (critical)
Drunken Haze: A great spell that slows the fleeing enemy and prevents him from turning around and fighting back as soon as you get in range of a tower.
Primal Split: Your escape mechanism. It basically gives you 3 lives with 1500-3000 HP each for a nice long duration. That's lovely because if one of your clones gets stunned, you can still escape with the others.

Now, most of these (all of these) spells are already in WC3. They are supposed to be, the game itself is warcraft themed, and the spells are just adapted to AoS gameplay. People like it like that. DotA isn't about originality, but just the opposite, people are supposed to recognize the simple combinations of spells, to help newbies get adjusted to the game in a few minutes, and to give it a nice, overall Warcraft-ish feel for everyone else. And I'll tell you right now, Icefrog doesn't give two shits about stealing resources, and you can't disrespect the game for that. Bitch all you want about him, I don't care, and neither do the other thousands of people who play DotA regularly.

Why is DotA so popular? Not because the players are misguided or brainwashed, lawl, but because the creators are SMART. They know how to get attention to their map. They know what to put in it to make people want to play it. Most of the complexity or "originality" of other maps turn away people because they don't want to take the time to learn a hundred things just to be able to play the game at all, they want to sit down and start having fun. That's what a game is about. Sure, other maps are great in their own ways, but you have to respect DotA for how far it's came.

I think I just countered every big argument against DotA.

blizzard hates the game that keeps wc3 alive. yep.

there staff ignores every game, find me one custom map they promote (other then maps in there competitions, and there own)

I'll bring up O.D as an example here. It has a bit of a steep learning curve, but once you get into it, or have a group of more skilled people, it becomes one of the funnest games out there.

But, after you've played the game a few times it gets boring. Having plain and simple spells gets old for me, and I want to see something more interesting out of my AoS's.

Basically, I just find DotA: boring, un-ethical, and too simple for my tastes. Having "click on hero" for damage and stun gets repetitive and stupid. I simply just don't enjoy playing many of the heroes.

Do you play with those AI enemy's instead of real players? obviously you haven't played REAL DotA

1) Refrain yourself from double posting, we have edit function for the purpose.
2) Refrain yourself from posting if your emotion is unstable at this moment, this issue was rather sensitive and have lead to countless of drama.
3) The reason why DotA is hate and love by some partial of community are vast. You cannot blame the community who love it or neither hate it because everybody got their own taste in game.

Just because you like DotA, it doesn't mean other people need to like it. They probably prefer RPG, Tower Defense and etc etc.
 
Khm, i think this topic is good idea, i think i saw only one guy here flaming another guy, he had sentence in his post like, you hate dota coz you are a noob; somtn like that.

Anyway, dota focuses more on players vs players, how they pick and play heroes, but if you look the map more detailed you'll see that it has nothing special what can keep you playing it long time. Except lots of different players.
There are lots of better AoS maps with tons of more content, but it just that DotA blinded players who plays it, so they cant see other maps. DotA become like culture. Coz all players have 4mb dota map. And few of them will download and play better 4mb AoS map. And then every time new ppl will have to dl that map... you need good commercial for other AoS maps. DotA isnt bad map, only it has little to offer...

I was hoping to find a better community than the previous sites I was in. But guess this is like the other sites I've been through -_-

I wanted to know more about WC3 and what other maps I could play. But when I made this thread abotu DotA I never thought that my first few replies were to ask me to leave and so on... guess I shoud've listened to them a bit earlier, eh?
 
Ppl only like dota because alot of ppl play it. This shit was the same when hero wars came out for roc. everyone start to play it cause everyone was playing it.
 
I'm not flaming, in any sense of the word. I'm offering my opinion on the game, and that opinion is poor. I'm not saying that you should agree with me by default.

Silly me thinking that I should be discussing this in it's discussion thread. What do you want me to do? Agree with every opinion that you have?

you posted a positive argument about dota, I actually think Icefrog is more of a con artist or something, put some stolen crap in dota and everyone plays it. In that sense, I think he's amazing to be honest.

So respect to all the people who worked on dota, you guys successfully zombified and alienated the community at the same time.

Some people find Warcraft 3 melee more fun than the sc one. I totally love the hero concept brought into it.

As for your other comments, I decided to take it out from your quote because they're really fucking retarded and do not deserve any reply whatsoever.
