wow this is such an amazing looking model, you done a really good job, so realistic and only 230 for such a nice model. When I saw it i thought it would be much bigger in file size.

Actually I just realized if I don;t use the portrait file its only 120 kb! Defo need to use this in one of my maps some where! I love good quality, low file size models.

This is amazing. It is nice to see such a good-looking unit using a polearm. Most polearm units are just poor edits of the felguard.

You did a great job being careful with the cloth. Most people who add robes to units end up having lots of clipping. On yours, there is only a tiny bit of clipping near the waist during some animations.

Really, though, this unit looks freakin' awesome. 5/5.

This is very good, but I tend to try hard finding the flaws in the animations!

This is what I noticed

  • In Attack - 1 and Attack - 2, the weapon and the chest should not stop moving at the same time when the weapon was swung. (Just try it in real life, swing your arms and try to stop it immediately. You will notice your body stops at slower rate)
  • In Attack - 3, the weapon slides a lot.
  • In Stand Channel and Stand Victory, the model slides. (The model also slides in other anims, but it is not that noticeable)
  • There's geoset clipping in Attack - 2 (A black fragment appears on his right shoulder)
  • Another geoset clipping in Stand Channel (His right arm intersects the shoulder when lifted)
  • The cloth in the middle (loincloth?) looks a little stiff if you ask me. (Animating a cloth can get very tedious, so I understand if you refuse/lazy to animate/tweak it)
Still, this is a very good model. The belt looks very nice!

Not true. I just picked up the nearest long pole and swung it exactly the same way. My hand closer to the base and my body stopped at the same time, and my hand further down the pole stopped last, just like this unit. You might swing differently, but that doesn't mean everyone does.

In Attack - 3, the weapon slides a lot.

The handle sliding through your hands is an important part of taking advantage of the handle for longer range. In a normal stance, you would hold a polearm or spear in the middle, and when thrusting, you would want it to slide forwards through your hands for maximum range.

In real life you could accomplish this by first tightly gripping and thrusting forwards, then lessening your grip, allowing the spear to continue moving through it with its original velocity, and then tightening your grip as it reaches its maximum range. You would then return your hands to the middle of the spear by either pulling one hand over the other like rope, or by lowering the hand in the back and letting gravity pull the weapon back to you as this model does.

The rest of your points were valid, though.

The cloth in the middle (loincloth?) looks a little stiff if you ask me.

How the heck you swing your arms and then stop immediately without having your body to vibrate even in the least? I tried different varieties of the movement and my body still experiences the momentum?

Edit: Alright after another few tries I managed to perform the same action. And I can tell that it wastes more energy and is very inefficient.

Edit 2: What I meant was the chest should be moving first rather than the arms to produce an energy transfer. My mistake due to difficulty to explain actions into words.

You would then return your hands to the middle of the spear by either pulling one hand over the other like rope, or by lowering the hand in the back and letting gravity pull the weapon back to you as this model does.
Take a look at the animation again. The spear does not retract normally.

There is a problem. Team brown color + black is a little similar. in game u hardly tell the different

That's always been a problem for some units. Still, you can generally tell who's attacking anyway because surely they have some other units that you can see the color on more easily. And then of course there's always their name or the minimap in case of emergency.

I tried to find a solution that gives good results for all colors, while avoiding flashy results. I think the result is fine, brown has always been an almost neutral color anyway.

I'm colorblind, so half of them look the same to me anyway.

The back view is pretty weird since he looks like a banana. Please make the armor more visible.

Peanut butter jelly time!

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find when I started looking around for a good model with a spear or polearm. Thank you very much for this excellent model.

If you're still working on this, I think a black-cloaked version could be very cool as well.

By the way, are there any icons you recommend to go along with this? I've been using Medivh since the cloak color matched in my case, but of course it's not a perfect fit.

This is a dumb question which shows I know nothing about modeling, but what do you mean by "tinting the geoset with geoset anim?"
Well it's about editing the model in Magos' War3 model editor...
You probably know how to tint a whole unit in World editor? Geoset anims allow you to tint just a part of a unit (called "geoset") in Model editor.

Here are a few hints if you want to do it:
- open the model in War3 model editor
- menu Windows > geoset manager
- Ctrl+click on the cape > corresponding geoset gets highlighted > remember its name
- menu Windows > geoset anim manager
- right-click > create new
- select the geoset ID and the color, check the box "use color"
- you're done!

Maybe there are tutorials for this but i don't know them.
Experiment!

You have no idea how much I appreciate that you've supplied the proper values for the editor AND a no-glow version. You're saving anyone who wants to use this model a lot of work! Good-looking, good usage of textures, some slightly awkward looking moments in the Attack 2, Stand 1 and Stand 2 animations, but hardly noticeable in-game I'm sure.

This is an incredible model!

I was wondering if I could get your permission to do a couple of very minor edits (changing the face and chopping the blade off of the polearm). I'm working on a campaign set in the 2nd War, and this could make for one badass Teron Gorefiend!
