In Greek mythology, Atlas (English pronunciation: /ˈætləs/, Greek. Ἄτλας) was the primordial Titan who supported the heavens.
And:
In Greek mythology, Atlas (English pronunciation: /ˈætləs/, Greek. Ἄτλας) is holding the "weight of the world" on his shoulders, which is many times shown on famous sculptures, the most famous being the Lee Lawrie's colossal bronze Atlas, Rockefeller Center, New York.
So now, I got no idea what he did. Maybe he supported both?

Hmm I googled "Lee Lawrie" and there are clearly zodiac signs on the rings. Often people confuse it for the earth, because the heavens are depicted as a globe.

Anyway, WIP

Looks really nice there Viiva :)

I got the feeling that my art skills aren't near most of you other guys, but what the hell. It is fun to create art and be in the contest anyways.

Anyways, WIP number two from me. Thinking about adding graves and more skulls/skeletons, this isn't really what the concept should be when it is done yet.

thanks for helping man :) i've never been good at the human body...
but I found my old and dusty anatomy book now (600 pages of complete hell :S)

Postjump-EDIT: I'm drawing Hel from the nordic mythology.
she's the ruler of teh "underworld" and the reason she is part skeleton is because she got thrown down there and since then is
half human half devestated.

remember the pic is just MY view on this description :)

Don't ask me too much, this is just a freaking sketch.. will send a more polish line art later. :p

so yup..

LEVIATHAN! tumtum..tum....:goblin_yeah:

took me a fuckload of time to come up with the general look, and I'm not even sure I like this one so far D:, but what ever.

It doesn't look like a leviathan, it looks much better than a leviathan. GJ. The key to draw good is just to find something really complicated and, well... draw it ^^
Ok, Wip time. Defined the muscles a lil bit more, added the Zeus head and... some weird spears on the back. I luv it ^^:

couldn't almost anything imaginative be considered mythological?

WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to open

seriously, concept art competition? that's how I see it.

Hiveworkshop Concept art competition #7 = The subject: hey draw anything you want just for fun... I mean, something original :D cause anyway you can draw everything you want, as long as its from after 1000 B.C and before 200... but it has to be original, but! it can be anything! :)))))))))))

sounds like fun!?! dude, this is no concept art competition, it's just = show us your skills in drawing and fuck the concept, who cares about them anyway?

do something more precises, like

''If a god from Parthenon would create a new creature, what would it be?'' (and we can base ourself from 1 of the X brothers and sisters from the mythology and based a concept on ''what each represents'')

or like

''Draw us a titan, how you picture them in the greek mythology, before the gods were born''

or like

''Draw us a freaking mytology creature from any kind of mythology (Celtic/greek/indian/Inuit) but! it has to be a creature that represents fear! (or something else like, it has to be a underwater creature, or it as to be a creature that can fly).

yeah well.. live with it, cause it's the only thing we can do about it :\
beside, let's take this competition as a ''easy to come up with a concept'' we have more time to invest into the drawing than.

Well it looks like everyone made a humanoid of some kind, so the only thing needed to edit is all "mythology" words to "humanoid".

wrong.. I'm making the leviathan.. :D

beside, we are just at the beginning, and trust me, there's a fuck-load of creature you can make.

From Dryad to Leprechaun to sphinx to dragon to ghost to hydra to gryphon to deamon to spirits to fairy to Pegas to.. blbablalblablalba..

"Release the Kraken!" ?

that gives me some ideas

I'm not making anything uberbbqwtfawesome big but I'll go with this two raven called Hugin and Munin. I decided for this because a lot of you went for Norse mythology creatures and these ravens are from it too :b

*Edit:

I'm having this awesome idea for the background, but there is no way I could make it happen :/

Trees, more like branches, nicely layered and all consumed by a nice light blue/green fog and with the moon in the distance behind the mountains :|
