Hmm, i don't know if this is the right way to go. Sure, we need some more presence, but a restriction to the download feature can massively cut down the overall amount of downloads mapmaker will and can receive.
And a measure like this can feel somehow cheap. I could understand that you could require to be registered to the hive, but to subscribe to it to use its functions? Normally its the other way around. That you want to subscribe because you like the community and functionality.
Anyway, i subscribed over facebook. I already support this community because i want to, not because i need to. Now i believe it is needed to upload maps to epicwar while having it on hive. The second because of the valuable feedback and the first because we need to for mass appeal.
Edit: don't take this for an offense, it isn't , i just want to point what possible consequences and feelings this can evoke
I completely stand behind this ^
And that comes from someone who liked the Hive's page as soon as I found out it exists. And that's (just as Lord_Earthfire said) because I wanted to. If the goal is to get more people to like us on social media, perhaps we should
incentivize it, instead of "forcing" people to like us in order to access our resources. What do I mean with incentivizing people to like us?
-Reputation bonus for liking the page
-Awards
-Special forum/chat icon created for social media fans
-Other
That's how people should be encouraged to like us. Not via restrictions.
Restrictions will surely lead to decrease of access and eventually loss of downloads of our resources, mark my words. By being a community of such an old game there are already plenty of restrictions on the way of both modders and players - nowadays it's difficult to even host a game without someone being on the wrong patch, using different software (hamatchi/garena/other), and other obstacles along the way. And then more restrictions on top of that? I love the Hive
a lot, but this will do more damage than it will help us.
I have subscribed to Hive's YouTube and liked Hive's Facebook looong ago and that won't change, but I am seriously against this new change. That's my 2 cents on it.
Peace.
EDIT: I wanted to also give League of Legends and World of Warcraft as perfect examples for the correct way to approach this issue:
-League of Legends rewarded you with a Skin for a specific hero if you like/subscribe to them.
-World of Warcraft also gave you something cosmetic as a reward, I really don't remember the specifics.
They didn't stop you from playing their games if you didn't like them on social media.
Point is, in my opinion, that people should be rewarded for liking social media and not punished for not doing so.
