If you really want to compete for old computers, I have an Intel 80286 at 10MHz somewhere around here.

Although it may have been thrown out already.

Bill Gates once said that when we reach 7mb, we'll never be able to fill it. Or something along those lines.

How much RAM and HD space would that use? Maybe 3mb of RAM, and 50mb hd? :p
I don't recall exactly (most parts are buried in the garage), but I believe it had 1-2MB of RAM and a 20MB hard drive.

Bill Gates once said that when we reach 7mb, we'll never be able to fill it. Or something along those lines.
At one point, he thought the 640KB of base memory was enough for anyone. Then:
"I have to say that in 1981, making those decisions, I felt like I was providing enough freedom for 10 years. That is, a move from 64k to 640k felt like something that would last a great deal of time. Well, it didn't - it took about only 6 years before people started to see that as a real problem."

I currently have only 1mb connection but I could upgrade it to 8mb. Is the speed difference big?

Depends what area your in, and the provider.

Because serton radius between you and your provider will have an effect on the speed of the bandwidth, and also it depends on your "Cat5 Cables" running through your walls. Some are over a few years old, and are not capeable of reaching 8mb+.

Plus your provider might say they provide "8mb Bandwidth"" but really it might be actually only "4mb - 6mb Bandwidth"

But either way it will help alot.

Don't forget about the server speed too. :D

Yes ==" but thats listed as the Bandwidth provided, and then they will have to find out from family or friends how the provider is, and what the range(distance) from them to the provider is.

The closer you are the better connection you get, and also the Channel your on (Internet Channel).

Current computer specs are:

[PSU:] Corsair TX650w BLACK.

[MB:] Gigabyte 1333mhz FSB, 16xPCI-e(2.0), pretty much just the usual things.

[CPU:] Intel Core 2 Quad, Q8200 2.33ghz, not the fastest, but it just runs ice cold on stock cooler, heh.

[RAM:] Kingston 2x2gb CL5 5-5-5-15 PC6400. Was cheap and didn't give me any problems.

[HDD:] Seagate Barracuda 500gb eSata 3gb/s.

[VIDEO:] XFX Geforce GTX 260, 216 cores, 896mb DDR3.

Now, if only I could find a CD with vista or XP somewhere in my stack, I could actually use it! wee.
