Personally, I'm more interested in character designs and roles as well as the storyline rather than the gameplay and stuff, which I will stay out of, leaving it to whoever are good at such things. Because if we succeed in creating unique characters and an exciting plot, we have already gotten far in the process of making a great game :)
Though, I'd recommend that we make two playable heroes - either switchable, like Mario and Luigi in the Mario-series, or a small sidekick who always follows the main hero like in Ratchet & Clank or Jak & Daxter (Which are also awzum games, that we could get inspiration from).

The storyline I had in mind
The Hive's bee-queen has been manipulated by her evil royal advisor, and have mistakenly ended up selling the Hive to her advisor's master, some unknown evil mastermind, turning the Hive into a powerful fortress of evil and slavery.
However, all this is unknown to our main character, who was adopted away from the Hive before it's fall to evil, and raised by moose? Anyways, he comes to knowledge of his biological home's fate and sets out on the usual heroic journey to save them all - soon he meets his sidekick/loyal friend, a small robotic dog or something, that follows his journey, eventually ending up fighting through the Hive with their advanced weaponry that they have found during their journey.

How does that sound? Of course it's only roughly thought of and written down, but that's what an idea phase is for, right? :)

Wait, after turning the thoughts around in my head for some time, I came to think.. why even have a leader? What's so important about it? This is a community project, why not let us all be leaders and make the decisions together instead of having some Hitler-dude in front? :)

Without a leader, there is no person who has a higher authority which gives this person no position to give orders to others, as they're considered equal.
People will get sloppy, when there is no leader and no progress will be made.
And making the decisions together would end up in one being against everyone else and nobody being able to do anything about it, as all are equal and one cannot be shot for not following others, and then these things would need to be twisted and turned until everyone are satisfied, which might not even happen in the end.

Because everyone would try and make the game they want to make and so nothing would be made that is able to be stuck together. As long as a universal goal is set, there can be as many leaders as nescescary but setting a universal goal usually requires a leader.

hehe maybe write what qualifications are needed to be the leader of the project?
I'm guessing the leader would require to have a good knowledge of the game engine we'll be working with so that needs to be descided on first, but before we can descide on what game engine to use we need to descide on what genre/game type we're making so we pick the best game engine for the project...

So i guess we were on the right track by trying to descide on genre(which still hasn't been descided AFAIK :p), after that is descided we need to figure out which game engine to use before we can make a justified descision about who should be the leader ;)

Just my thoughts :p

Well, you see there comes this problem - we CANNOT decide what the genre will be, cuz we have different opinions. The leader has to decide that. So, we must first choose the leader and then he will choose everything, with probably 1-2 more people, some kind of advisors or something.

Just counting:

2 votes for DSG
1 vote for Stath

(if of course, Dr Super Good agrees to this)

"If you choose one person who holds all the power when it comes to desciding what game you're gonna be making it would no longer be a community project, it would be the dictators project with the community as helper slaves... "

Well, I guess I am saying this cuz... hmm.. ok, you saw, what happened when we were trying to decide what the genre of the game will be. Nothing. No final solution.

Or make a poll, or the leader to decide the genre of the game, that's my opinion on this =)

I don't see how else we can do it.

Hey, btw, I was thinking.. why not create a Facebook/Skype/Something else chat where we can all see the messages that have been written and such.. I mean it would be a lot faster. A skype discussion for example, would be great. You get all written messages as.. hmm, how can I name this, as a... visitor message, I mean, with this (1) <You have unread messages> etc.

Well, no reputation isn't important that much. Every person is, not his reputation. A guy with 600 rep can still be mean, rude, etc. So the other way around is possible too. A guy with -50 rep to still be capable of handling a project.

But that's just my point of view. Anyway, I vote for DSG (if he agrees of course), since he is, in my opinion, and experienced person who seems to know a lot more about games than most of us (I'm talking about game engines and such) and he also has that passive spell which makes people listen to what he says :) at least in my opinion.

Add: [NOT because of his rep, posts, join date, awards or anything of that sort]
