Killzone 2 does exactly what I predicted. It uses a hell of a lot of geometry (which is what the PS3 is good at) and textures but all the textures are lowish res (some textures are not very sharp compaired to other games on the market) and the effects employed are rather simple but look good (simplish lightning models and limited shadows). Sadly I could not confirm the lack of AA as the images I was vewing were downsized probably but most likly it does not use AA.

You must remember that the PS3 hitech GPU is simply a top range nvidia geforce 7 card with a bit of a tune up as far as graphics goes. Do not expect graphics to be much more complex than those that cards like the 7900 could produce. Both consols will diverge into different play styles, and eventually, like mentioned you will probably get a lot more content for PS3 and simpler better graphics for the 360. The major dis advantage graphically over the 360 is that AA is more demanding and that the available RAM is more preset, which unfortunatly have a larger impact on the eye than more geometry.

Ram wise, 512 is not that much. Concidering top range graphic cards have over 1 GB RAM per processor, it probably one of the largest bottleneck of the consols. 256 MB is not at all much for graphics, concidering the lattest PC games when rendering at 1080p use well over a GB, thus why some textures in complex scenes can be expected to be lowish quality. Also both consoles can not really dotop range graphics at full 1080p, I heard on gamespot that some games have to render at a slightly smaller resolution which is then upsized at some stage. However this is done in such a way it is hardly noticable on HDTVs and only affects them.

The hardware of the consoles (both 360 and PS3) will not get faster, they purly will get more energy efficent and cheaper as any changes to the actual power would result in hideous wastes of money, compatibility problems and lag.

In the end, the next gen consols really are not truely next gen anymore, as, like I said, the PS3 is stuck with technology from the time of the Geforce 7 and the 360 with even older technology. Concidering new gaming PCs brought now have atleast a 9800, 260+ or ati equivelent card, the consoles will start looking dated fast as soon as up to date PC games come out so I would sadly expect the even newer generation in atmost 3 years. What really amazes me though is how the Wii still remains a competitor concidering its graphic capabilities are like that of a geforce 6 card atmost and its processor/RAM probably fail to match those of the requirements for WC3. Honestly, they should start shifting good games to PC, as then they have pretty much unlimited potential.

...

No.

Is that the only thing your going to say in this thread? He's actually brining up arguments, and rather valid ones I might add.

I won't bother. 5 minutes of research will prove him wrong, but arguing with DSG is a waste of time. I have better things to do than to find every single thing wrong with what he said.

Also, I tend to not be bothered to care when someone is wrong on the internet.

Then stop writing NO and FALSE and DUDE YOU ARE SO WRONG to everything he says. If you are so unmoved by his arguements and you wish to bring nothing factual to the conversation, then go somewhere else.

Telling everything somebody says is wrong, and then showing no evidence to prove it, is not a valid way to go about doing anything. A retarded person could do similar. Unless you want to do that mere 5 minutes of research, find another thread.

Same goes to you I)eadnerzhul, Going around saying "Ooh, take that PS3 lovers." "DSG told you" and the like does not contribute to the conversation in any way.

Nevar. I just don't like it when people listen to someone who has no idea what he's saying.

Really, you don't need to justify your purchase by pointing out which one is better. The PS3 has multiple advantages over the 360, which has multiple advantages over the Wii, which has multiple advantages over the PS3 and etcetera. I'd say the PS3 is for the "connoisseur" of hardcore gaming. Whoever likes really polished, but not necessarily many titles would lik ethe PS3, assuming you can pay the price. The Xbox 360 is a fine console, capable of amazing graphics as well, and fits pretty much anyone. But the Wii just wins in terms of sales because of the customers it gets: wives, children, grandparents, etc.

Used well, the PS3 is capable of more or less better graphics/physics/etc. than the 360. The Gamespot comparison is not valid because they compare multiplatform titles which were released at the same time on all platforms. Most of these titles need to be better adapted to the PS3's stranger hardware. It's all about optimisation.

Meh, I'm done. Sorry about the lack of info, but this post is not something I made up, its actually from the mouth of a developper at Obsidian Entertainement (which is making a multiplatform game called Alpha Protocol). Just something a dev posted in their tech forums.

Someone wrong on the internet? No way.
Yeah, DSG has some points, but his past leads most of us to ignore his long posts. No offense DSG.

Fine, you ignorant people can keep your false beliefs. I can only tell the truth, weather you believe it is another mater but the facts still remain, in comparisons of the same games on gamespot, the 360 always won over the PS3.

It was a comparison of multiplatform titles. Yes, Fallout 3 looks like shit on the PS3, but when it comes to exclusives the PS3 is godly.

I've known gamespot for loving the 360 more.

Like when they compared GTA in 360 and PS3, they limited the graphics in the PS3, thus making it look like the 360 had better graphics.

I have to disagree here. Like I said, besides fallout 3 all the different versions look the same (except the PC, obviously). Just look at these two images

010a.jpg

010b.jpg

And honestly tell me that one looks better then the other. They look a tiny bit different, but that is because the images were'nt taken at exactly the same time as each other, because that would be impossible unless its a cinematic or something.

Nothing that is diffrent graphic wise from what I can see.

The PS3 doesn't own all. Not by one bit. The only system that really owns all is the PC. Nothing can beat the hardcoreness of a keyboard and mouse.

And then there is the whole price thing.
And motion sensitivity.
And portability.
And letting your friend borrow a game.
And viruses.
And assembly.
And installation.
And constant new versions of something you just bought, making your rig feel outdated the moment you put it together.
And more common hardware failures. Well maybe not more than the 360. That does indeed own in terms of hardware failure. =D

You can get cheap, effective PC's rather easily.
And motion sensitivity.
Motion sensitivity? You mean motion sickness? I don't get it.
And portability.
Oh yes. Because you can't get a gaming laptop or are too weak to pick up a PC.
And letting your friend borrow a game.
I don't get what's so difficult about it.
And viruses.
*sigh*... Firefox+knowledge of what NOT to download.
And assembly.
Noob.
And installation.
Yet again, noob.

Not really. Graphics have pretty much reached the brink.

If you're not a noob at PC's and can take care of one, this will never happen.

Gaming on the couch with a controller is a lot mor comfortable than mouse and keyboard.
If you have enough money to buy a decent couch, I'm assuming you also have enough money to buy a decent computer table and chair. Mouse and keyboard>controller any day.

But not one that can match the specs of the 360 or PS3 for the cost.
Motion sensitivity? You mean motion sickness? I don't get it.
No I mean the motion sensitivity within the Wii and PS3 controllers
Oh yes. Because you can't get a gaming laptop or are too weak to pick up a PC.
Consoles are much easier to travel around with than a PC, and again, a laptop that can match the specs will cost more than a console.
I don't get what's so difficult about it.
Cd-keys. Take Warcraft 3 for example. Two users sharing the same copy of the game can not be on b.net at the same time. And with DRM in all the new games it just gets worse.
*sigh*... Firefox+knowledge of what NOT to download.
Everyone gets them at one point or another. And I never hear of too many consoles suffering from these problems, or being at risk.
Yeah, that's nice. Resort to childish tactics. I know full well how to assemble a computer. 1-There are plenty of people who don't. 2-Consoles are good to go straight out of the box. 3-Assembly can result in hardware failure if not handled properly.
Yet again, noob.
Time, not issues. It won't take too long if you have an uber pc, but chances are the average user doesn't. See above post about the noob part.
Not really. Graphics have pretty much reached the brink.
No, they haven't. 10 years ago the things that we make now would have never have been dreamed of.
If you're not a noob at PC's and can take care of one, this will never happen.
Yes. it will. There are tons of unforseen complications that can arise from simple everyday use. Parts may come DoA, or they may be damaged during installation. With a console you just worry about the box, because if it breaks you just send it. With a PC you must think about every single part.

leet.firefox, you points about CD keys and viruses are moot imo. Consoles can crash just like a computer, and you can share wc3 with a friend as well as any console game. And actually consoles are worse for sharing, since you need the CD.

I)eadnerzhul, consoles are cheaper, and more portable. As well, graphics have no reached the brink, not to mention physics still has a long way to go.

How many consoles do you know have viruses? How many crash due to malware? And consoles were worse at sharing games, until the companies began implementing DRM. This limits the number of times a game can be installed, and also installs unwanted, sometimes not deleteable programs. This leads to games being pirated rather than having to go through the hassle. I have never had this problem with a console game.

When you hear of hacking and identity theft, what electronical device do they most often refer to? Is it not the PC that is always the target by both wrong-doers as well as those advertising their protection programs? Why do the consoles not have Norton Antivirus, or Search and Destroy, or any other such programs if viruses are just as common in them?

I guess you haven't seen those physics-accelerated games or those realistic shooters with bullet drop, then.

Ha, you think that is as far as it will go? I have never seen a game that accurately reproduces every simulated physical effect with 100% accuracy throughout an entire game. Things get stuck in walls, people walk through each other, bullets continue in a straight line forever until they hit something, limbs flail randomly. There is no game out that is truly "realistic". As long as that statement can be said, graphics and physics will continue to improve.

Never had this problem myself, links please.

Alright, I'll admit that computers have more problems than consoles, I was just pointing out that consoles aren't perfect.

However, if you own a console, the odds are you own at least a cheap computer. You're already dealing with the computer issues, so making it a gaming computer is no extra hassle really.

I guess you haven't seen those physics-accelerated games or those realistic shooters with bullet drop, then.
I just finished playing Crysis, and as far as I know, that game offers pretty much the best physics around. CoH has some amazing stuff as well, but neither is near perfect. I'm talking about a game like GTA IV, where you can destroy each building with perfect physics.

Like I said, if you're a moron and get yourself a virus, you probably deserved it. I've had my gaming computer for a very, very long time and I haven't got a single bit of malware due to Mozzila Firefox.

It isn't Firefox, it's probably your choice in downloads. I used to use FF only, and still got plenty of viruses (no it wasn't from porn).

leet.firefox, I didn't know games used that. That's pretty gay, but I doubt companies will try and use that much, after the whole spore thing. Honestly, I agree with pirating there, and am tempted to go download spore now just to spite them. :p

Wii still outsells both.

Wii doesn't need to drop its price. It still sells.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. Goddamit, that one is not for the family.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Oh, and wii almost never fails hardware wise. Nintendo's always done pretty good about the hardware (My N64 got run over by a truck, and it still works!)

just FYI the reason Wii sold lots more than xbox and PS3 is because it was something COMPLETELY NEW. I admit I bought one, and I can make a safe bet that many of the people who bought wii's were disappointed... I know I was... The wii is for little kids, they've tried and epic failed to make it more appealing to older kids.. I am a Xbox 360 fan all the way but I'd play PS3 rather than Wii..

Edit: Oh ya... Super Smash Bros. Brawl Sucks ass...

Ok really...

#1 You can't compare a console game to a computer cause computers can do a lot more... you can't browse the internet on a wii like you can a computer...

#2 the reason many people get viruses and shit on their computer is because they're downloading or doing something stupid... you cant do that on a PS3...

In short: Computers have less limits than a console game, so therefore, there are more opportunities to screw it up.. next time think a little before you compare two things

1. Don't double post.
2. You can indeed surf the internet on the PS3. You can download things on the PS3. Why are viruses not such a threat?
3. Consoles are getting to the point where they can indeed come close to a PC. Consoles do have more limits than the a PC, but they do far more than as previously thought possible.
4. You think a little before telling people about thinking about comparing too things.
5. They are both hardware orientated and use software to run the various programs on them. They use input devices to display on an output device. Sounds similar enough to compare to me.

Apparently we're all communists today, eh?

Consoles are not getting to the point where they can come close to a PC. Consoles can't run Crysis at max settings at 30+fps, even when there's a massive explosion. Consoles can't run physics-accelerated games. Now I'll admit that for a computer to actually beat a console, you need to spend a lot of money. But for the most part, money isn't the issue. Performance is the issue. In the Crytek 3 tech demo on consoles, the framerates were dropping incredibly in grassy areas and when trees and other bits of foliage was destroyed.

I'm not talking sheer hardware specs.
On my PC I can surf the internet, play games, chat with friends, watch movies, listen to music, upload photos, all these things that were once thought to only be capable on a home computer, I can now do on my gaming console.
Of course graphics and physics on the gaming console will never catch up with the pc. Console receive few if any hardware upgrades. While with a PC you can build a different one any day. The whole point of a console is to be easy to use and reliable.
By easy to use I mean that little assembly is required and most could operate its interface. No installation of various programs, no trying to keep up with all the latest parts.
By reliable I mean you don't have to worry so much about each individual part and whether it will fit with the rest, or if you have enough power, or right operating system, or anything. You just turn it on and go.

And mouse and keyboard do not beat out everytime. I would not want to play MGS4 with them, or LBP for that matter. You lose the analog stick which is very useful for small precise character movements. With keys you don't get the same amount of sensitivity.

Shooters are a toss up. Mouse is far more accurate, but analog is better (or at least feels better) for movement.

Isn't it that game which has terribly simple models and textures? If so, it isn't impressive. It replaces good graphics with a lot of people. Whup-dee-do. PS3 FOR THE WIN... not.

Obviously with that number of players you will not have graphics that are up to par with the likes of Killzone 2 and MGS4.

What exclusives is the 360 looking forward to this year?
