Hello,

I remember when we played vs night elves in WCIII, they attacked with some uprooted ancient protects.

When do you think this strategy is useful?

Tree of life is useful when map runs out of gold.

Walking ancient protectors are also quite useful to slowly invade enemy base.

Trees of life and ancients of war can also be useful for tanking up some damage if they are coupled with archers. But this doesn't team all too useful except vs neutral creeps.

Even with nature blessing upgrade, they just seem too slow and are there just to die without inflicting any harm to the opponent.

Do you think there are some tactics that employ uprooted ancients correctly, and use them effectively?

Ancient of Wars are mostly used for this, because they are the most cost efficient ones. There is a strategy with a lot of archers and ancient of wars in night elf vs night elf, but it is rarely used.
You often see ancient of wars if base attacks are expected for example against raiders and tanks.

While they might not deal that much damage, because they cannot reach the enemy due to their speed, you can control if and where fights happen. In most cases the enemy cannot afford to fight close to an ancient of war, so the enemy will try to kill the ancient of war first, before the fight really starts.

They are however rarely used offensively to directly attack an opponent's base like it was done in the campaign. If a last all in push is played you want to use everything you have including your ancients.

Actually very useful if your world tree gets burnt down and you have to move to a safe haven.
