Isn't that the screen resolution? That isn't the monitor.

Actually the correct term is display as a screen in theory is the surface you project an image onto while a monitor is kind of archaic (usually refers to a CRT display). CRTs kind of have a screen but that refers to the phosphorous surface that the electron gun projects onto to generate light (you see the back of it) which is likely why the term has become degraded over the years. LCDs do not have a screen as they are filter based with a white light source reflecting of mirrors through coloured LCD filters. OLEDs are light sources where each pixel generates its own light so are not screens.

Screen is an old term used by cinemas. It refers to the surface the projector projects on to that the audience watches. In such a case you are technically watching a "big screen" however the screen is not generating the content and owning a big screen by itself is useless unless you own a projector which is itself a display device.

That's 5:4 not 4:3. xD
Assuming perfectly square pixel elements since that is an aspect ratio (it governs correct reproduction of content so as to not appear stretched). Even though most are perfectly square he could have some fantastic screen with non perfectly square pixels. It must have a lot of compatibility problems with accurately displaying stuff since I am sure most applications assume square pixels.

Honestly too lazy to write it down here, so here's the pcpartpicker list: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/hMdCmG
Tried to use that website, but they don't even have all of my parts. How do you like your headset?

Phenom II X4 @3.5
ASUS M5A97
XFX Radeon HD 6850 (soon to be an R9 280)
Corsair Vengeance 2X4GB
120GB SSD
500 GB HDD
1 TB USB2
1 TB USB3

No idea what my PSU is anymore. No records of it in my email or anything. And my PC is tucked away because I use it as a media PC for my TV.

I'm guessing Corsair 550 Watt.

The headset is great, but after about six months of use, the leather on the earcups hardened quite a bit and it's not as comfortable as it used to be. So if you are considering to get it, it's a good headset, but you will need to take care of those leather earcups.

Since it's a corsair and not some knockoff brand, 550W will be sufficient.

Pretty sweet setup. Personally I'm waiting for GTX 960 to get it and a 4K tv. xD

I'm mixed on 4k Monitor/TVs at the moment. The resolution bump would obviously be very, very nice. But from what I've seen, that resolution on anything smaller than even 40" makes everything tiny. At that point, you have to start messing around with scaling options and whatnot.

On the other hand, there are some rather interesting new entries into the monitor field with LGs UltraWide displays. They boast a lower resolution, but it appears to be.... more effectively used, I suppose? Not sure what word or description to place here. With 4k Monitors, it currently feels like they just said, "Well, we might as well go 4k, why not? Look, we have a 4k monitor!" whereas the LG UltraWide displays appear to have been designed with the higher resolution in mind (though still not 4k), and designed the monitor's dimensions with the resolution and aspect ratio in mind.

Also, with 4K, we get to the point where even the high-end hardware has difficulty pushing playable framrates at that resolution at higher settings. It can be done, but you have to take a hit in the IQ (Image Quality) department. You're looking at GTX 980s in SLI for great performance, and GTX 970s in SLI for average performance. Even then, AMDs R9 290x in CrossFire gives Nvidia some stiff competition in that department. It's far from clear cut, and I'm not prepared to invest in anything at this point. I'm waiting for the hardware to mature.

(Check out these reviews here for some additional info on GTX 980/970 SLI 4k performance:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014...tx_970_sli_4k_nv_surround_review/#.VJ4S4F4Crs)

For now, I'm 100% okay with my triple display setup. It gets the job done.

I have considered everything you mentioned, months ago as well as read trough dozens of 4K reviews, so my decision for 4K + 960 is pretty much final. Not to mention, getting a 4K tv is cheaper than going with three 1080p screens even cheaper than most 4K monitors ( at least in my country).

My main laptop has:

Windows 8.1 Core edition

Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor (2.50GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
Cores - 4
Threads - 8
Processor Base Frequency 2.5 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 3.5 GHz

16.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHZ
500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB
A 15.6" FHD LED display up to 4K resolution (I have it scaled back to 1920/1080p and it is sadly capped at 48hz)

The only thing I regret about buying it, is that the GPU is integrated and cannot be upgraded.

I love the practicality of giving a laptop computer a 4k display. It is like hooking a 1080p display to a PlayStation 2 as far as gaming is concerned. Guess it is for all those smooth "realistic" fonts more than gaming.

Still using my good old I7 (first gen) with 6 GB memory and NVidia GeForce GTX 760. Currently using Windows 7 (64 bit) but plan to upgrade to Windows 10 in a few days.

there is games that support higher rsolutions than 1080p.(world of warcraft for example.) laptops does have weaker hardware than desktops and no room for upgrading. i did not mention my laptops at all so i guess i should. i have an asus laptop with intel core i7 2670qm 2,2 ghz, 16 gigabytes of ram, 750 gigabytes of harddrive space, nvidia geforce gt 630m with 2 gigabytes of ram and a blu-ray drive.
