Let's continue to write the Warcraft saga together!

Just my two cents, and maybe I'm totally wrong about this, but is there a name you could give your project other than Warcraft IV unless this campaign actually will have its own computer game engine to play on, and its own World Editor for that engine? I know I'm being a little silly or petty to ask this of you, and I hope that what I'm saying does not hinder your creative vision at all. I'm not finished reading through your post yet and what I'm sharing is only my first impression. But, the last time I downloaded a Warcraft IV mod from Hive, it was a bootleg copy of Warcraft III that got me banned from Battle.net because I curiously tried clicking the Battle.net button (I thought the game included possibly the CD key of the author to play with -- it hadn't occurred to me that he might be using some instaban bootleg CD key back then).

So I have that personal bias, that when I think of Warcraft IV my mind jumps back to getting hassled in the Hive DMs repeatedly for model requests until I stopped visiting Hive for a year, only to try the project the guy was asking me to help make and in return be banned from Warcraft 3 causing me to miss a LAN party a week later with my friend.

But other people might have their own personal biases. Similar to the over-hype of Reforged, folks who see Warcraft IV might want too much from it, in an almost silly or ridiculous way. But if you name your project something inspiring and unique to your own vision that doesn't proclaim itself to be the Warcraft IV, then people might have their expectations set more on a Warcraft III campaign and it might be easier to garner honest positivity without the added baggage of people assuming you to be the absolute best, culmination of their 20 years of dreams for a better game.

Anyway, best of luck, I might share more thoughts after I finish reading your entire post, just wanted to note this initial impression.

I don't know exactly how it managed to be so, but I feel like your "Legacy of Shadows" expansion is basically spanning the time when I completely stopped paying attention to WoW storyline. Will this expansion be optional if I want to pretend that the things preceding it were the real story, and the things after it are fanart that got funded by Bobby Kotick?

More generally, if we assume there are other people who have similar experiences to mine but who stopped paying attention to WoW at different points in the story -- for example maybe after Wrath -- is there a way for those people to download only the campaigns that are a subset of the whole thing that match their experience of what was real and what was not?

Finally, this is what I've been looking forward to. A warcraft custom campaign that tell the story of WoW. (Kinda surprised it took this long for a project like this to start, but better late than never)

A very ambitious plan and ideas, but I'm concerned about the number of chapters dedicated to each expansion, it seems like a small number to be able to tell a full and cohesive story that includes enough elements of each expansion in Wc3.

But I'll be excited to see progress.

Tbh I'd be more concerned that all that's really been put up for this project, so far, is the names of chapters and the entire premise seems to be to get everybody else to do the work without really offering anything substantial to show us that there actually is something to look forward to.

Ideas like this have been pitched for a long while now, so until there's any evidence of actual work being put into this by the thread creator, it's probably very unlikely to happen, at least in this context.

If you're looking to do a continuation why do a retelling of the WoW expansions in Wc3? I personally think some of these storylines don't lend themselves well to the RTS format, since they were done with MMO in mind. All four playable factions from Wc3 are involved in these stories so for ex. how do we decide from whos perspective we do the Cataclysm story?

And yes this overall feels more like a broad roadmap with no proof of concept.

Both Forsaken and Blood Elven campaigns here on Hive are pretty good, and are essentially that.
If anything, storylines in WoW are rather clearly nonsensical the moment you consider existence of all those different factions, armies, etc, who are there in lore, but just "offscreen" in game (mostly due to engine not being capable of doing that kind of work at the time).

Yes but those are campaigns focused on the story of -one- of the factions. WoW story is told as a story of multiple groups and factions simultaneously

For ex. in the stated roadmap there's 3 chapters for BfA. Would that be 1 chapter orc, 2 chapter human? Vice versa? If you did Forsaken stuff wouldn't it be undead? That's what I was saying the overall expansions have very broad stories and I'm not sure how you would retell them like that.

I've been looking into this, and the account who made this post. The missing links, incoherent titles and weird language (Wdym Discord OR Slack? You haven't decided? And other weird stuff like that), it's pretty clear that this entire post is generated using ChatGPT. More so, it seems like the whole account just uses ChatGPT for its responses to threads, campaigns and whatnot.

This could (and should) very well count as spam imo, and the account be removed.

It really is a fever dream of a post. My favourite part is how the announcement itself effectively lumps all of the work onto volunteers who have not yet been recruited, making me wonder - what is the original poster actually contributing? Like they're even looking for a "Story and Lore" team - they haven't even got a story?

Genuinely, this reminds me so much of when you get a member like Superfrycook writing out a techtree, and it's just a bunch of unit names with no actual connection. Except Superfrycook actually uploads finished products, so you do end up seeing a proof of concept by the end of it.

I like how the only real suggestion (and good one at that, the spread on the citation is significantly better than the one from OP. So credit where it's due) in this thread just avoids the idea of actually rewriting the flustercluck that is WoW's storyline in any meaningful way :D

Surely if even monkey with typewriter can outmatch modern Blizzard, so can people with actual brains.
Allegedly.

Ironically enough it's the only part of the whole project that would seem feasible without pretty big and experienced team that already worked before on something less... ambitious.

Without a team behind us, it couldn't be done in 10 years, and even with several professionals working 8 hours a day, it would take a long time. The project sounds great on paper, but it's impossible to do as an amateur. Just look at the development time of projects like InsaneMonster's Re-Reforged, and compared to what you're proposing, Re-Reforged is a small project. But hey, you can live on dreams, and the dream of WarCraft IV has been floating around in the heads of fans for so many years that it's like a mythological animal.

Regards.

PS: And I hope Blizzard never makes a WarCraft IV because I don't want to see the title more ridiculed and bastardized than it already is with Reforged, I don't even want to imagine the mess they would make with a completely new game.

Has anybody else noticed that the poster of the thread hasn't responded at all? That might be something worth factoring in when deciding if this "project" is actually going anywhere (or if it even sounds great on paper, I personally don't see how it could sound great on paper since it hasn't really said anything on paper outside a bunch of theoretical mission names).

Obviously it's not going anywhere, this is just talk for talk's sake, nothing more.
