Is Warcarft 3 becomming too old? Will Starcraft take over and carry us into the future as we forget the fantsay relm of Warcraft? Is Starcraft a word?

I got this idea from the dragon age orgins mod thread! So what does everyone think?

Sorry if I quoted Fallout 3 rights reserved to them for that, but I wanted a catchy title!

I personally think Warcraft III will lose more users to Starcraft II than Starcraft has lost to Warcraft III. The reason is simple (at least to me).

The many users who still play Starcraft are the users who appreciate its sci-fi aesthetics, but, most of all, its balance and uniqueness as an RTS.

The users who have moved on to Warcraft III DO include people who like fantasy, but is mostly comprised of people interested in the modding aspect. These people may have come from the Starcraft community or otherwise, but the main focus on Warcraft III is its moddability as opposed to originally in Starcraft, where it received just as much focus as an RTS as it did for its custom maps. Nowhere can this be more obvious than in Korea, where it's practically a sport.

As such, I think Warcraft III will face large abandonment. It might not be immediately apparent, but if Starcraft II holds up to be the great modders' paradise we expect it to be, then Warcraft III will be rendered obsolete for most.

Fozo :)

Levdragon:On the other note I wish to re-phrase my previous statement, I don't literally mean as soon as SC is released no one will be on WC, heck maybe even five years of so from now a lot of people will still be playing WC but in general the entire community on WC is getting pretty lame and all I see in custom games section is a bot flood and the occasional player attempting to host a map only to have no one join due to bots.

SC2 is adding so many options to the editor it's amazing and the graphics are increased ten fold, although I'm a bit worried about Blizzard on this whole 'premium' thing and the ability to add mods to your maps I am still pretty keen on making warcraft maps for starcraft. In fact I have already done some planning for a map, although I don't except to realise it any time soon due to model/skins etc. that have to be fulfilled.

Anyway what I'm trying to say here is that sc2 is an improevment of wc3 because soon enough a large portion of wc3 players will be playing wc3 maps, lotr maps etc. in sc2, just like there are sci-fi maps that are successful in wc3 but I believe there will be a ratio of 10:1 more successful fantasy maps for sc2 then sci-fi maps for wc3.

Oh wow didn't ruin lore, at least no the original, BC and WoTLK killed it, and cata mutated it... seriously WTH is up with cata?

Woops back to topic... I'm just saying that WCIII has become desolate and a bot world, I really hate bots now... Still I think it won't die... just because of all the people here on HIVE who say otherwise.

HoN.

Also, I'm sure someone out there is going to make DotA on Starcraft, and it has a fighting chance at being successful.

if they made a stand alone, wholly new improved version of the game, and many people still play DotA, what chances do you think there are that they'll migrate to a Starcraft DotA?

Icefrog hasn't expressed any intention to move it.

Well, yes, there obviously will be people who refuse to migrate. There are still people who play Command and Conquer: Renegades for fuck knows why.

But most of the people I know who played DotA now play HoN.

You might be right, though. I don't know. I still think it's very likely that most players will make the move. There's just not much reason to stay.

why do people try to make a thread sound cool

just cut to the point

anyways, no, like what everyone else said, wc III did not end starcraft. they are completely two different genres, some people might not like futuristic and stay with warcraft and vice versa

But what if someone make an awesome(for awesome i mean really awesome) WCIV map on SCII and it become so popular? Will WCIII survive that?

idk... i still like SC1 better then SC2 (at least the beta) they made so many changes, they worked so long making it and they hardly added anything different, i mean not even the graphics are very good (All this IMO,), and the reason why i liked WC3 so much is because of map editor... and with sc2 having this i guess it will be worth it... but if they do make a wc4... it will be just like the wc3 - sc2 player transfer... (but im still gonna be playing both)... but this is just how i feel things will roll :D hehe

Warcraft III has more then one map, if sc2 has 50 wc3 maps then wc3 will die, even then actually people will still be playing wc3, many modders will go over to sc2, but perhaps not as many as we thought until mods with medieval/warcraft models are released. Most people who play wc3 like a fantasy genre.

Now what if the galaxy editor is great and all but it has the major flaws of:

1. Hard to get into, ackward interface not easy like Warcraft 3
2. In order to do a lot of things programming is nessicary!

ty for the rep but sometimes I feel like I use overly creative titles!

If they convert Warcraft III's lore, units, graphics & everything to starcraft II, then warcraft "true" players will move to Starcraft II - But then again.. It's not Starcraft II anymore, its Warcraft III 2.0 =D

Hey Blizzard is not a stuipid they won't allow these types of maps on the Battle net!
Because you clicked on it

Amazing simply amazing plus reputation!
