Thrall

This bundle is marked as high quality. It exceeds standards and is highly desirable.
My latest model, Warchief Thrall.

Used Doomhammer as a base. He's got new attack animations more fitting for a shaman, but I decided to keep the old animations as an alternate animation set. That way people can use a melee Thrall as well.

An excellent model, great skin and awesome animations. Great job.
CHANGELOG

Update 1: Added alternate Stand animations to fix a bug with the alternate animation set. Thanks to Verb8im and Zaljinzoo for pointing this out. I also gave him a new death sound.

Update 2: Fixed a bug where blood would spawn when Thrall killed enemies. Thanks to master Gul'dan for pointing this out. I also brightened up the skin a bit for better consistency with other orcs. Finally I gave him some more movement in the portrait animations.

Thanks guys! Glad you like it :D

BTW, I just realized we have the same sentiment in our signatures, that's amusing.

Indeed! :p I never understood why someone would want to stand in the way of others' creativity by demanding they ask permission first. Especially seeing as we wont be active here forever. As long as due credit is given that's all that matters to me.

What does the alternate animations mean? Does it look different for a "melee" Thrall, than the normal one? What's the purpose of the Doomhammer file?

The alternate attack animations are included so people can use a melee version for Thrall as well. The animations are different. With the regular attack animations the hammer glows and it looks like he throws magic projectiles with it, like the vanilla model. With the melee animations he just hammers on the enemy, like my Doomhammer model. The Doomhammer file is mainly for use with the Spell Throw animation, but could be used for his attack missile as KILLCIDE said.

If anybody would like me to upload separate versions of the two animation sets (to save space) please let me know.

I'm trying to just use the alternate attack animations, but with the default stand animation. However, when I put Alternate in the animation name string, I get the alternate version of everything, including the stand. Is there any way to specify which alternate animations I want without having to be forced to use all of them?

Best way would probably be to open the model in Magos Model Editor and switch the sequence names. Rename the Stand Ready (I assume you meant this one, since there's no alternate Stand animation) to Stand Ready Alternate and vice versa.

Yeah, that's the one. I want just the stand animations, not necessarily the Stand Ready, but the Stand 1 2 and 3, instead of the Stand Ready Alternate, with the alternate attack animations

That's a bit more complicated then. What I'd do is:

  1. Open the model in Magos Model Editor
  2. Rename the "Stand Ready Alternate" sequence to something else, like "test" or something
  3. Create a new sequence called "Stand Ready Alternate" with the interval 666 - 2666
This should give him a Stand Ready Alternate animation that uses the Stand 1 animation instead. Note that there wont be a proper transition from the Attack animations to the Stand Ready animation this way.

So how do you use the alternate attack animations? How did you intend for people to use them, I guess is what I'm trying to say

You put Alternate in the animation name string. You literally just did this yourself? I didn't really intend for people to use them, I just included them in case someone did want to use them. The model is designed for a ranged hero, like the regular Thrall.

Yeah, I did it myself. That's how I did it too, put alternate in the animation string. I'm building my Thrall to be a combination of gladiator and shaman. So I'm having him be a melee hero with a few far seer abilities and melee abilities

It's also possible to give him a morph ability that uses the alternate animation set. This will allow you to switch between ranged and melee.

How would I do that?

Make a melee and a ranged version of the hero, and give the melee version the alternate string tag. Then create a morph ability that switches between the two heroes. You can look at the Demon Hunter's Metamorphosis ability or Druid of the Claw's Bear Form ability for details. Just replicate those abilities.

I think I'll try to edit it in the Model Editor.

EDIT: How do you edit an animation? It's only letting me view the different animations

EDIT 2: I got it working! Your right though, he goes into just a stand animation when he's coming out of an attack. It's a little annoying, but better than nothing

Okay, my friend pointed something out to me and I think I finally understand what your issue was. When you set the animation string to "alternate" in the WE, all of his Stand animations are replaced with the Stand Ready Alternate animation. That's a problem. Serves me right for not testing properly before releasing :p

I'm working on fixing this issue currently.

Ah, that makes sense!

Nice idea editing your Doomhammer model to make a Thrall out of it. Impressive work as always! Though, is it me or is the Doomhammer model a lot bulkier and bigger that Thrall? Was it intentional or?
I really like the glowing hammer in the attack animations!

As always *clapping*
i caught myself smiling when im viewing it in the viewer lol
r u gonna make a mounted version soon?
