As you stated that you want to make his attack animations two handed, perhaps I may give you a suggestion for one type of attack, perhaps attack slam or something. I am not too sure, but I believe that Felguard has an animation where from two handed grip, he equips the weapon into one hand and just swings it "backhand". That would be good, as it really expresses the feeling of an orcish brute giving in his full strength to deliver a blow. Hopefully you'll read this through and give it a think to see how well it fits this bulky, hot and sexiest Grommash model on Hive. ^^

great bro ~ and when u finish him , u can modify him as Garrosh . we need one ~

Thanks mate, I might make Garrosh. But I'd use the same animations as Grom probably.

Oh, and I just realized that he is missing his signature Warsong banner. That is a bit of a shame, but it's understandable that you don't want to crowd the model with little details any more than it needs to be. It would be interesting if you made it as a separate attachment which could be attached to his Chest attachment point, though. :)

Personally I find it finely made so far,
yeah a Warsong symbol would be nice.

Yeah, not adding the banner was a deliberate design choice on my part. Never been a fan of them on the original models tbh. It just seems so out of place. It doesn't look like something they would actually wear, but more like it was put there as an excuse for them to have more team color.
The WoD Grom model for example, also doesn't have the banner. It would look out of place.

You should consider having one animation in which he swings the axe with one hand in a horizontal slash. That could be interesting to see. Something akin to the Naga Myrimdon's "Attack - 2" animation.

Yeah, definately planning on adding a one-handed attack move as well.

Working on the first attack animation. This is a hard one though. Haven't really animated two-handed before, it's harder than one-handed imo. The way he holds the axe, and the length of his arms really restricts the animations a lot.

This is what I have so far:

There's something about it that doesn't feel right. I don't know if it doesn't have enough force or what it is.

I can tell you what it is. Perhaps in fantasy games they actually keep both hands on their weapon the whole time, but take a look at it from the realistic perspective. With each blow he makes, in order not to over-extend his arm, he must release the grip of the weapon on his less dominant hand, right before the blow. The explanation of why that is a must, is the length you have placed for the Gorehowl. At the moment if he keeps both of his hands on the axe whole time during the fight, his slicing range will be short.

Animations would look better if Gorehowl on the model was a bit uh... Longer I guess. So yeah, it'd be better if you make his attack animations like this:

1) With one hand, he holds the weapon tightly whole time. It's the dominant and main weapon hand.

2) Other hand is there just to support it from time to time occasionally, like when he is in the stand ready animation, and in the middle of attack animation.

That way you have the feeling that axe is really heavy, but his strength manages to hold it with support from time to time with another hand.

What I actually mean is really hard to explain like this, I'd need to find some good examples related to that and post them here so you can see for yourself, but I hope I've been of any help to you with what I stated above.

The attack animation could use some more follow-through right now. It looks more like he's making a half-hearted attempt to chop down a tree, rather than to cleave an enemy in half.

I don't think I've commented on this one yet. The model is quite nice and you did a great job of keeping to Warcraft 3's style. The left shoulder looks a little odd where the collar bone meets the deltoid, but I can't say I haven't seen worse from Blizzard. I imagine that's a problem produced by the unwrap. The boots also bother me a little since they're basically single solid pieces of metal. That looks uninteresting and unconvincing. The head, hands, and shoulders look amazing though. Your use of team colour is quite nice as well.

I've seen this on a couple models before and while unrealistic, in Warcraft 3, it often can be pulled off in a believable way.

True that, I agree. Just stated from my point of view, in other words did some small brain storming. However yes, I have no doubts in Tauer and his skills to find the right solution.

Congratulations mate! Most definitely the best Grommash model ever made for Warcraft III. Cheers! Looking forward to your future projects, and expecting more great characters from Warcraft universe coming from you. Stick to this because you're damn good at it!

Thanks you guys :)

lol your models are great! Too bad I can't use it for my project :p

Hehe, why not?

Anyways, I started meshing Garrosh. I'm using Grom as a base including his animations. He'll be using Gorehowl as well. So this one will be mostly texture work.

This is what I have so far:

He's like a Hulk compared to other orcs, so yeah - that's what makes him a character. He went to the Gym more often it seems, as shown in World of Warcraft. Lovely face by the way Tauer, it's starting to get that Garro-psycho look.

Thanks ;)

Maybe after this one you could work on an Alliance hero... Perhaps Varian with your old WC3 anim-styles and textures?

You know me mate, I'm a Horde guy :p
I dunno though... Not a fan of Varian's character at all to be honest. Besides, paladinjst is making a very awesome Varian.
Hehe, what do you mean old WC3 anim/textures? You mean my old model edits? Cause I've pretty much moved past that. It's boring tbh, and I don't really learn anything from it.

Anyway, face is starting to take shape:

Nice, the facial expression looks good now.
It would be nice if you add a check scar or something :p

I wonder if you'd be willing to try making his jaw tattoo (half) like Grommash has in WoD.

Hmm, I think Garrosh has always had the full jaw tattoo?

woooool great ! it's glad to see that u decide to make Garrosh ~ We reaaaally need this . can't wait to see him , well done , bro
:ogre_haosis:

Thanks mate :)

I would really like to see Kargath Bladefist and Durotan V.2. They are kind of worse, than your other models !

Well yeah, obviously, since I made Kargath 6 years ago before I knew anything about modeling and Durotan was one of my first scratch made models.. Can't really compare.

I am really glad someone is finally making Garrosh, so no-one would beg me for my old crapy model of him anymore! :D whuhooou!

I'd like to see your Garrosh :)

I would like to see some teamcolored runes on his tusks, especially after the abundance of teamcolor on the Grom model. :)
Coming along nicely otherwise. I still think Gorehowl might be a bit too short and small, both on Grom and on junior here.

Maybe ;) Do you know of any pictures I could use as reference for orc runes?

Face is almost done:

Oh jesus that face. It looks incredible mate, really. It really has that Garrosh feel to it now that I take a closer look at it. Plus the Mag'har feel is right there as well... You never fail at keeping me amazed.

Thanks mate :) looking forward to seeing some of your work. Unfortunately I don't know what to do about that error you get, but hopefully BlinkBoy will find time to answer it.

Looks great! Let honor guide you, Tauer. :p

Lok'Tar Ogar :D

I don't think there's much more I can do for his face:

I meant something like Orgrim and Blackhand :) Your Grom is both WC3-like and WoW-like at the same time. Orgrim and Blackhand feel like they were actually part of the game already :D

Anyways, I hope that you make a newer version of Durotan though if you dont plan to make Varian. He seems kinda left out since he's the only one you haven't given an upgrade.
