Sunken City, quite the masterpiece of map design, haha!
An RPG within Warcraft 3, and one of the best maps I have ever had the joy of playing!
I am very much a fan of Warcraft's blend of RTS and RPG, and of course, love it when I get to play RPGs in RTS, haha!
Look, honestly, I am at a loss for words on how to describe how good this map is, but I'll do my best. Sunken City is an amazing RPG style map that I have never quite gotten to the end of, on account of the long playtime, but I certainly enjoy my moments spent playing. The sheer variety of ways to personalise your playstyle in terms of heroes, abilities, items, and passive bonuses is ludicrous, and offers so many ways to play the game in a way you want to play, within bounds of course!

The heroes provide a wide variety of base playstyles the player can build into, even within their respective primary trait group, some even having special features that allow them to go above and beyond, such as how the Naga heroes are able to swim, and access extra secrets. Talents in particular alter ability effects in quite a numerous selections of ways, and essentially allow any given hero to specialise which abilities are going to be primarily made use of - allowing the player to hone particular abilities to great effect, or diversify the powers available to them. On top of this, also is specialisations, which typically affect one of the primary abilities or passive of the hero in a way that allows it to become the focus of your arsenal, which can be combined with your talent choices. Glyphs are similar, however, offer less specific bonuses, as all glyphs are available to all heroes, and come in several categories that allow you to hone the playstyle you are encapsulating during the course of play, or pick up helpful special bonuses. There are also ESC points, which are simple passive stat bonuses you can upgrade as you level up, a simple way to specialise, yet still very much a part of developing your playstyle. In combination, these personalisation mechanics mean you always have a way to make a hero 'yours', in a sense, you can play them the way you want to play them, and that is great! One could even develop playstyles they at first think might not be supported, with the right allocations.

Of course, the hero customisation is not the only way one can develop their own playstyle, items, the lifeblood of adaptable customisation, provide even greater ways to specialise. On top of the typical stat bonuses you expect from items, are powerful passive and active benefits, particularly rare items hold immensely powerful bonuses that can solidify a playstyle, or even turn it on its head, allowing for quite the wide variety of extra customisation.

The atmosphere of this map is legendary, this overgrown and sunken city has risen from a 10,000 year watery grave, and comes with a history the player can find scattered throughout bookshelves and interactable scenery across the entire map. While I have not viewed this story to completion, it is definitely intriguing, and I enjoy the snippets of it that I have come across over time, and I do hope that I will see the end of this grand story one day, but for now, I play on. Everything about the map design feels just right to evoke the feeling of the city, ancient and brought back from the dead, old masonry falling apart, gardens growing out of control, and the feeling that something isn't quite right. It's quite the artistic display, love the scenery! Not only is the map excellent, the utilisation of amazing custom models and effects really brings the spectacle to the player's actions, it gives all the customisation the 'oomph' to make the player feel powerful both visually and statistically.

Of course, what are you going to do in an RPG without some conflict, enemies to fight? There are plenty of enemies to fight of all varieties as you progress, slowly developing in strength to push the player harder as they go on, and the sheer variety of mechanics one can find throughout the map creates quite the diverse challenge. The extra challenges the player can complete for bonus rewards are a nice touch too, pushing the players to play around the mechanics of any given boss in a special way, to achieve the extra glory. You've got to play well to complete the map, the enemy isn't going to hold out on you, and you're gonna need to work together as a team to get through the unknown terrors ahead.

Truth be told, I don't feel my words can do this map nearly enough justice, it is absolutely deserving of high appraisal and what I can say about it cannot ever truly get the point across about how polished this map is. Absolutely amazing work.

Hi there. Stack with problem of loading map in multiplayer - we're playing this by LogMein Hamachi by LAN connection.
After saving game succesfully (it goes green and everyone has data on their PC's) we create this again by Loading Game in LAN menu. One player can join, another one dropped from lobby immediately.
1) Can u ask any decision?
2) Can u ask another platform when we can play?

That sounds awsome as me and two friends are starting to run maps and i know that they both loved the other versions you have noticed a small bug though😅 we cant always see our lifes it not really a Big deal but i makes it a little harder to know how we are doing 😊 and thanks for the super fast respons

Hey Author, I followed your advice yesterday and went on EpicWar to download a older version. But when the map loaded I got a crash saying something about memory. Is there a specific verison i need to download?
That because you have two files of the map😊 i had the same problem 😅 i fixed it by moving one of the files to another harddisk 😊

Hi, can you answer my two questions:

1) Why can't I load games with WC3:RE?
2) Will Tidewarrior appear in the next version?

Unfortunatelly loading the game on single player on map version 2.4.9 for Tinker still doesnt work. This time it just crashes the game.

I hate that 80% of the time a spell is cast an Shade spawns, it is annoying!

And I miss Ice Lancer, the only hero I ever played!
Shade spawn isn't set to 80% - but if the challenge of playing around shade is too much of a hassle, might I suggest setting the game type to "Standard" instead of "Heroic?" :)

A lot of Ice Lancer's niche was rolled into Mage with the spec update - instead we now have Feral Druid.
If you like'd Ice Lancer, perhaps try a Frost spec'd mage build.

The exact number is not important, I said that it is way too much, every time I cast a spell I need to run away.

I don't think the number is excessive - are you per chance playing solo? I can see the issue being much more disruptive in solo heroic runs.
Keep in mind the map is balanced around 3player Hell Standard runs.

You can try and mitigate the ghost damage with dampening glyph and/or other spell damage reduction modifiers - I hope that helps :)

I am always playing solo. Or at least I was, when Ice Lancer existed. I only played the maximum difficulty.

Hello! I'd like to ask... Me and my friend would like to play this map, but we dont have 6 hours straight. Is there posibility to save game in progress, with friend in lobby, and then open that saved game and continue as duo squad?

Sunken City uses the built-in save/load feature in Warcraft 3, which is currently disabled.
Not a lot we can do there, unfortunately, as we don't want to make an extensive save system to try and save the game-state.

Greetings! Over the past couple of years, I wouldn't be surprised if there have been hundreds of people that have asked about Save/Loading in Sunken City. As many of you know, the feature has been disabled for a long time now. Blizzard have stated that it would eventually come back, but it doesn't seem to be high up on their priority list and let's be real - it's not like they are throwing any big updates at us.

So I just thought about something simple, which each and every one of you can do. It brings 0 guarantee about anything, but if we want Blizzard to be aware of the importance of Save/Load to some players and mapmakers, we need to have our voices heard. Go on the Blizzard forums. Write down a message of how you feel about this, but be polite. Spreading hateful and insulting comments is unlikely to make our voices heard. Just make a small post about how this matters to you, as players and that you want to see it back.

That's how we got Campaigns back and we know there is work being put into Warcraft, so whoever really wants to see Save/Load back - let's do our best to guide them towards this fix, by sharing our desires on the forums.

I havent played in a while, since the last version before reforged to be precise. I just got to play, im on 2.4.8 version, and there are 2 things that i find different and not sure if Im doing something wrong or its a bug.

SPOILERS!

1. I see that queens tomb has been changed, looks way smaller than before. There seems to be a secret area on the left, after destroying the rocks under the tree, however there's nothing there, nor does it seem to be able to proceed further. Am i missing something? As for the queens tomb, is the dragon aspec(ysera) still obtainable from the chests inside?
3. Gar'thok, the sad skeleton after the tiny volcano in the beginning is still just for lore, and has no other function, correct ?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this kind of question. If not, I'm really sorry, I didn't know where else to do it.

I want to play Sunken City but I only have WC3 Classic and not Reforged. I know the current version of sunken city is not compatible with Classic but some past versions are. I wanted to download one of those but I couldn't find any on Hive, and the one I found on EpicWar don't seem to be downloadable any more :

I can download other maps on EpicWar though, it seems that it's the old uploads that leads to this error.

So my question is : Would it be possible to re-upload somewhere, at least one old version of the project compatible twith WC3 Classic. I know all the most recent feature would be missing, but I also know that the previous versions were already a blast so that would be awesome to try it.

Thank's a lot.

Personal Comment:
One of the most polished maps, of its type, that I had a chance to play.
Beautiful terrain, nice story, well customized heroes and enemies.
Over 100 different traps, puzzles and such like obstacles all over map.

After 2 years of constant improvements and never ending updates,
time has come for this special honor. Enjoy.

Map Status: Approved

(6/5) ★ Director's Cut ★
why when i download the map and the when i try to put the file in the game map files it doesnt show inside game even tho i downloaded it

Hello, reporting a load saved game bug i just experienced.
Created a solo game and picked the hero Troll Witch Doctor and then played for a while, saved the game, closed Warcraft3, came back and tried to load my saved game but, after a bit of loading, it gave an error and closed Warcraft3.
Tried multiple scenarios: with or without bots, just pick the Witch Doctor without doing anything else (abilites/talents/etc...). I can't load a saved game with Witch Doctor.
I can confirm I can load saved games with other heroes, for example 2 games with Death Knight.

Using the latest Warcraft 3 patch from the battlenet launcher.

Me and my friend just played 8 hours straight on the hard level, heroic. Everything went well until we reached the “west wing” and during a fight with some mobs the game just crashed. Not sure if it has to do with the map or something but if more people get the same problem you might want to look into that.
We love this map and are really happy that you guys are updating it!
One other thing: can you make a version without the peon that mines money? It gets easier the slower you are and that doesn’t seem fair. You want to earn the money and not be given it for free 😃

It's sad that creator refuses to support classic WC3.

That's really a misrepresenting way of putting it and it doesn't do anyone good to make claims like this. I don't refuse to support anything.

There are newer functions in the Editor that were added with later patches and I used them to implement features in the newer versions of the map that won't be possible without the said patches.

I had the option to use new stuff added for the Warcraft 3 Editor and I did.

If you choose to not to play on these patches, that's on you and it has nothing to do with me and the development of the map.

I don't owe anything to people who choose to play outdated versions of the game. You and others like you are free to do so and I don't blame you about it. Play whatever pleases you.

But do me a favor and don't come here with these misrepresenting comments that try to put some blame or guilt on me, cause it just won't work.

I don't want to offend or blame. It's just an opinion, WC3 deserves a better remake than this poor Refunded. Thanks you for great work!

Btw, had it happened with only me - when I do solo and play "Witch Doctor", once I save game with him and try load it other time - the game is always crash and go to desktop ?
Only with "Witch Doctor"
Witch doctor and engineer are having trouble with saving on this patch. It was explained in some earlier comments, until it is resolved.. can't do much about it i guess. Use these 2 only for 1 time runs and not save/load/solo.

@SpasMaster Ello :grin:

I came here to tell you one thing but i did read some of the recent comments and maybe i'll say something about that too;
You should update the screenshots list, none of them can be zoomed, its a series of very smoll pictures. 🤏

And umm, now about that other topic, I suppose it wont be bad to have a 1.31.1 version supported since it should have most of the latest functions, however mr @Anderson should know that if he wants to play Retail stuff on an older patch, he should wait, the more Warcraft III Community edition is developed, the more this becomes a possibility without having to sacrifice one thing or the other.

Hope i was helpful.

Hello mister @SpasMaster

First of all, congratulations on this amazing map. 5/5

And second, would it be to much to ask if you try to explain how did you managed to make all those numbers that pop-up in game (Spell damage, physical damage, life steal, healing - when the heroes are doing damage or healing ofc). I am using Arcing floating text, but so far I have no luck. I am a bit new to this.

- Have a great day.

The most simple implementation of this can be found in the damage engine demo map. I am pretty sure that Spasmaster's text tags are a lot more sophisticated than those, so the simple demo might be easier to learn from.

Thank you for the feedback @Bribe

Will try it out and see how it goes.

I found a bug, not entirely sure how it works so i have a hard time replicating it but i'll try to explain.

With Tide Warrior, have the talent that spawns tentacles with a 10% chance when hero or murlocs get attacked.
I first saw it happen after getting an item (blue) called 'Spiked Armor' which gives 6 Strength, 3 Potency and reflects 5% of dmg.
The bug usually happens when the hero dies and suddenly and unknown amount of tentacles spawn at his corpse. So many that they melt camps or bosses in seconds. E.g. The first 2 bosses on the right of the 2nd resurrection stone, the one that drops the moon key got around 70% of his health deleted because of this. And this is without items and levels, stats etc., as tentacles gain some of the hero's stats.

I assume there's some interaction with dying registering multiple hits maybe which makes the tentacles spawn or something related with potency or reflect dmg from the item, or rather a combination of both dying and the stats from the item.

The issue is not only deleting everything which in combination with the item formed from the 3 ruby crystals (forgot the name) is absurd, but when it happens you're dead and lose all the XP, which in starting levels is quite crucial.
