1) Make sure you have at least the 1.27 patch installed. The campaign WILL NOT WORK properly without it.
Specifically, Chapter Three will not load at all.
2) Download the Rise of the Blood Elves Intro cinematic and extract into your Warcraft III/Movies folder.
LINK TO THE CINEMATIC FILE
3) Download the campaign and place into your Warcraft III/Campaigns folder, or My Documents/Warcraft 3/Campaigns
if you have the 1.28 patch.
4) Play the campaign!

In a daring campaign against the Scourge in Northrend, Illidan faced off against the death
knight Arthas in an attempt to destroy the Frozen Throne. However, Arthas defeated Illidan and left him
wounded in the snow, allowing Illidan to witness the creation of the new Lich King.

Kael'thas Sunstrider and Lady Vashj, realising their defeat, brought Illidan with them as they fled back to
Outland. Seeing their master's ugly wounds, they decide to bring him back to the Hellfire Citadel so that
he may recover... but, unbeknownst to them, Outland was in a state of a minor civil war.

Soon after that, tensions rise in the blood elven society as the Grand Magistrix Alessandra Katryne
proposes a dangerous idea: reclamation of their homeland, Quel'Thalas.

So Im not sure if this is a bug or I mess something up,in mission 11 theres a pheonix that attacked Illidan base and cannot be killed, making the entire Illidan army to stuck inside their base constantly attacking dat pheoni, which makes my mission easier so Im not gonna complain about it, but still, maybe its just me, but if its a bug I will just put it right here for anyone thats sees it

Do you mean Kael'thas' phoenix?

I just play the campaign the 2nd times and the Blood Knight model was changed to night elf sentry. Is it because of the new patch?

Yeah, it's because of patch 1.30. I'll fix it in a future update.

Nice campaign. It deserves to be made official, to be in the Reforged in the campaigns.

I learned more about Warcraft lore, but with my bad English and the quick changes in the dialog boxes, I could not read all.

My experience in the campaign was to focus on Cannon Towers and attack with Arcane Golems (before that Spellbreaker). I liked the technologies of the Forsakens except the Ghoul, I think they were never used by Forsaken (I've never seen one in Undercity or in a cinematic), the Dreadguard are excellent versatility land fight, guard tower Black Arrow helps a lot in defense against several weak units attacking.

Cinematic does not work in patch 1.30. Sometimes the ability of the heroine Ranger does not work, the invisible. The Blood Knight unit has to change model, currently is Night Elf and not a Blood Elf.

Finished the campaign just now. It's only my 4th custom campaign, but it's the best one by far. TY Tomoraider.

Want to add that chapter 10 and 12 are hard as fuck, couldn't beat them without cheats :(

Well done campaign, just like Blizzard style but without voice over.
I'm currently at chapter 6, the only problem i have now is the dialogues are too fast to read. I have watched many Youtubers play this campaign and most of them can not keep up too. 20-30% longer would be fine.

I am familiar with all the issues you listed, I plan to fix all those at some point in the future, though I'm not sure if I will be be able to fix the cinematic issue.

Thanks! I plan to add multiple difficulties in the future, so the way these chapters are now will probably be the hard difficulty.

The dialogue speed was perfect imo

I agree with this. I already increased the duration of dialogues by a bit when I updated Curse of the Forsaken last time, I plan to do the same for Rise of the Blood Elves.

Glad to see that you are still updating this. I just completed the campaign and all I want to say is MASTERPIECE!!
Those last mission, the Illidan boss fight and Kil'jaeden. The voices from WOW makes the fight so epic.

I'm currently playing Curse of the Forsaken, just chapter 4 and it's already really hard for me XD

Lovely campaign, haven't slept for 2 days :D Going to check the Fallen ones. In a chapter where you suppose to Kill the Phoenix God, and Destroy Kael'talas followers, one of the phoenix got stuck in the North of the map, at 1 percent health and was just rampaging there. If it hadn't been for that probably I would spend two more hours attacking the bloody traitors :D

Wanted so say you made a truly great campaign. For me your campaigns serve as a continuation of TFT. I've been having fun playing it again over my holiday time off.

If you are considering adding a mission during your update, I think between chapters 2 and 3 a mission with the blood elves fighting the Draeni, getting Muru, and founding Tempest Keep wound fit in well storywise. But the campaign is already amazing out of this world as is.

Do you plan on making this campaign more in-line with the lore, like you did with Curse of the Forsaken? I'd love to see Haulduron Brightwing put in, in lieu of Aewynn as Ranger-General. I felt like Aewynn didn't really add anything that Haulduron couldn't have done himself.

In addition, having him work through his addiction to Bloodthistle while fighting to retake Quel'thalas would've been interesting as well. Gameplay-wise, it would give him a debuff that reduces his intelligence, that slowly eases up as you go through the early chapters. Albeit I'm not sure if this would work, as I'm not sure if there are actually any stat-reducing debuffs in WC3 aside from armor, damage, and movement speed reductions.

Question of 100% pure curiosity that comes to mind now that I'm playing though this again. From a triggers standpoint... in Chapter 6, when Sylvanas sets up an Allied AI base.

Those quotes she shoots off in battle, mostly taken from Heroes of the Storm stuff. Is that just periodically when she's in combat, or are there more specific triggers to get her to say stuff?

I'm on patch 1.30.4, and the blood knight skin is broken. It shows the night elf sentry skin, with the blood knight sword and shield

Yeah, I'm familiar with that, patch 1.30 changed the skin's path or something, I'll fix it.

Doubtful. I'm honestly more fond of Aewynne and Alessandra than I was of Phaelynne in Curse of the Forsaken. I was thinking of perhaps only expanding on Anveena a bit, but otherwise I don't think I'll be changing anything.

There are specific triggers for those. If I'm not wrong, she says each one when she reaches a certain point, I think she says one when she is on the bridge. Not 100% sure about the rest, but they are not random.

No multiple endings, no. But there's certainly plenty here, and a good number of secrets and easter eggs to be found! There's one I know about, but still have yet to actually find while playing... because I forget it's there when I'm on the right level. Eheheh. Oops. (it's the one in chapter 5, when you unlock Arcane Golems)

Because there is no multiple ending in this campaign, so i safe to continue the game by selecting from chapter list rather than load the game right ? For example i just reach chapter 3 but i am no manually save my game, so i can continue by just selecting from chapter list right?

Exactly. It will still carry forward inventory and levels and skill choices from the previous maps where appropriate, just like the official campaigns. You won't get Kael back right away, but you'll be back in control of him soon. There's a lot of heroes you jump between in this campaign, but not all of them will stay until the end of the campaign!

Alright guys, let's talk Rise of the Blood Elves update.

When I finished Curse of the Forsaken v3.0 I was honestly so sick of Warcraft 3 because of all the issues I ran into while working on the update, I had more crashes and complications than ever before, issues with cinematics and AIs and lots of stuff really, which is why it took me so long to even get the v3.0.1 update out. Because of that I had no big plans for a RotBE update and I had already mentioned a few times I would just like to do a smaller update for it, just add some new stuff from CotF v3.0, such as multiple difficulties, maybe flesh out Anveena a bit more, the heroes and units and such.

But I've been in a Warcraft 3 mood lately and have been thinking about this update, and (unfortunately) I got some fun new ideas, but when I wrote all that down it ended up meaning the story would be massively altered and like six maps would be revamped to some extent. Honestly I kind of feel that if I were to do any kind of update for RotBE, I wouldn't want it just to be a look at gameplay and bug fixes because I'm kind of... not that content with its story anymore? I mean, I still love the story and the whole campaign, RotBE was my first campaign and really any kind of creation like that ever and it will always be special for me, but when I look at it now, after working so much on these campaigns (and stuff outside of WC3), it's a really simple story that has not changed much since its beginning, and I just want to do more, and I know I can do more.

I want to flesh out Kael'thas' betrayal better, I don't want it to be a sudden thing anymore, I want it to build up over the campaign. I want to include Anveena and Kalecgos more and make that entire story make sense rather than Anveena being a sudden random magical plot device. I want to include Rommath and Halduron and give Liadrin a full journey as a character. I want to bring the story a bit closer to WoW and show how the blood elves actually dealt with all their troubles, rather than it just being a "Let's take Quel'thalas back!" story and then people end up getting murdered and no one gets punished, and then Kael suddenly betrays everyone. So there would be more opinions, more different extremities, but not insanities in the form they exist now. Unfortunately, this means Aewynne would probably end up getting cut, Alessandra would most likely remain, but she would probably play less of an important role. I'm really fond of both of these characters, so that's kind of unfortunate. Sylvanas might appear less.

Anyway, if I decide to do this, it would take some time, though probably not as long as CotF v3.0 did. I guess I'm kind of hesitant cause I've been working on these campaigns for so long already and CotF v3.0 really burned me out. But I do feel that Curse of the Forsaken is finished, I think that campaign has reached its peak and I have no desire to work on it anymore, but Rise of the Blood Elves can still be better.

So these are just some of my thoughts and I wanted to let you know what's going on with the campaign. What do you think? Feel free to share your thoughts!

tomoraider i want to download this campaign before you change it and i wanted to ask what version of wc3 is this campaign best played on ?

i have 1.27 and 1.28.2 and 1.29 and then the latest (which i think it's not the best patch because of issues)

@tomoraider I see your struggle is basically to keep both this and a possible updated version you want to work on in the future. Why don't you do the same as Curse of the Forsaken, and keep this version at the bottom of the post and update the campaign? Doing so you'll keep both, it's like having two different versions of the project, one that will have your OCs and the other that will be, lore-wise, more in-context with WoW.

A lot of people have been asking to keep these more WoW related, but you still don't want to get rid of them. I think keeping the original and the future version both avaiable will make everyone, you aswell, happy and satisfied with your work. I've been following these maps since 2013 and my god, every time is a fucking experience, I really don't mind an update since your campaigns are my favourites.

@tomoraider Glad to hear you are considering an update for RoTBE, loved the campaign. Some stuff you did that was suddenly thrown at me was kinda odd and some more back story on some of the later characters to appear, such Anveena and Kalecgosas, would be welcome.

My only real problems with the campaign is 1) put in a difficulty selection please, playing on hard only is REALLY annoying, I like a challenge and all, but i don't have much time for gaming these days, (Full time job and all),
and 2) reduce the respawn rate of the Fel Orc Warchief, he respawned WAY to quickly it seemed like.

Other then that, the maps are fun, the story is good, the cinematics are very enjoyable.

You sir are a God amongst mere mortals.

Do what you feel you gotta do, man. These campaigns are honestly my favorite Warcraft 3 product to date, and that's including Blizzard's campaigns. The little touches, and taking audio from WoW to flesh out events and add extra weight to scenes like the confrontation with Kael'thas, or even just taking a character's actual voice from WoW to make their unit quotes like with Lor'themar and Kalecgos.

These campaigns are absolutely a labor of love and it shows in every way, and I will never object to seeing them updated. The only thing that should stop you from updating them if you're not satisfied is you.

Losing original character you're fond of is a shame, but adding Halduron will please fans as well, and I'm eager to see what you do with him.

I won't lie, I'd have been satisfied with a small update to just fix a few things the most recent patches broke. But if you want to start a bigger update, I salute you. Rest assured, I will be playing it as soon as I see it released.

Thank you all for the nice words!

I think I understand the urge to revamp the campaign and I really think it would be better that way like the Anveena and Kalecgos part, etc. RotBE is a special campaign for me and brought me to this site. I support your plan and hope you for the best of luck. :)

Thank you! Yeah, I love these two campaigns and always when I finish updating one, I feel like the other one is lacking! Maybe this will finally be the end?

This version of the campaign works from 1.27 onwards, but the UI (because of widescreen) and the blood knight skin is broken on 1.30 onwards.

Yeah, I guess it's that too. The ideas I got this time would just change parts of the campaign so vastly it would be quite different, it's hard to let go of what exists now.

And thank, I am glad you like them!

Multiple difficulties would 100% be a feature in the future (heh). Easier Chapter Ten would come along with that!

And thank you for the big compliments!

Thank you! I've always considered these campaigns a kind of a love letter to WoW from me, the blood elves have been my favorite race and Sylvanas my favorite character ever since I first played Warcraft 3 when I was 10 or 11 or something like that. I've always just wanted to do something more with them in Warcraft 3 and I'm glad so many people enjoy it as well! Adding audio from WoW certainly adds to the special WoW feel.

I've been thinking a bit more about Aewynne and Alessandra. I think I could keep Aewynne as an enemy hero, a Kael'thas loyalists that is just there as an adversary in a map or two. Could give her some kind of a tiny arc or something. Alessandra, however, has been here since the very first version back in 2012 and I think cutting her would really mean cutting a core part of RotBE, in a weird way. Whereas Phaelynne in CotF was really just a female Putress, I think Alessandra is much more than that.

Actually, I've been working on fixing the UI for widescreen, it's turning out pretty well. I think I'll do a tiny update maybe even this week to address that, as well as the broken blood knight skin. Is there anything else that got broken in these recent patches?

Maybe this is not a bug, but in the chapter 6, and 8, in the tomb of relics I can buy the orb of corruption, instead of the orb of darkness.....

@tomoraider I know you probably don't want to have yet another playable hero, but why can't you do both Halduran and Aewynne? Have Aewynne in the Kael missions, and Halduran first appear at Lorthemar's base in chapter 4. You could make it so she can't be swayed back to their side after the betrayal and they have to kill her

That's definitely an oversight. Will need to update the Forsaken to their CotF v3.0 changes anyway.

Oh I like this idea! I could probably work something out, but there's gonna be a lot of characters...

Yeah, I know. I actually edited the Blizzard missions to have more heroes from lore in the campaigns, and in the Blood Elf campaign, I added in Aewynne, to keep continuity with ROTBE. So I personally like to think of Aewynne as the Ranger General of Kael's forces. Now Halduran can be the Ranger General of Lorthemar's forces still in Quel'Thalas, or something like that.

Maybe in chapter 6, where you have all 5 heroes, they can send Aewynne or Halduran on a scouting mission so you don't have 6 playable heroes in that mission, then at the end of the mission, they come back, so you have them for the holdout. Then that would mean you have 4 heroes for that mission rather than 3, but I don't think one extra hero will make that mission particularly easier.

Oohh, that update seems to be really interesting, though I love Aewynne and Alessandra being major caracthers and don't want both of them to dissappear/get less story.
Idk who's Halduran tbh but I've always loved the way you introduce new caracthers with every update even if they have a major or minor role.
I've been following your work and were the first ones I've played and discovered the existence of custom campaigns so I have a little more love for them as other ones; map revamps aren't bad at all, but as Relith said you could keep both current and future versions as you did with CotF.

About Aewynne you could just make her a ranger captain loyal to kael'thas and kill her off. Anyway I'm excited with this.

I've thought about something similar. We'll see!

Halduron is the actual ranger-general in Warcraft canon, but yeah, I'll definitely have the older versions uploaded as well if I do this.

Uh, this was one magnificent piece of art. Thanks a lot for making it <3

Thanks, glad you liked it!

For me as a big fan of warcraft cannon lore and actual Loremaster ( :3 ) this could be the an awesome improvement for your campaign, i reallly like what you did with CotF, also some of non cannon thing you added give these campaigns some custom campaign feeling :p
Hope we will see at least one more campaign from you in the future :p
All things taken, great job!

Well, personally, I always considered Alessandra as "our avatar", to us players. Like the main character we follow the most.
The fact is she is a Grand Magister in your version, which is incorrect because it is Rommath.
So, I may suggest you to create a new chapter between Chapter 2 and 3.

Alessandra would be Rommath apprentice and it will be our starting mission to discover BE issues and each point of views.. Like, Rommath wants to free Quel'Thalas, but he is too loyalists to act against Kael'Thas.
So here, Alessandra may try to reach Quel'Thalas on her own.

But yeah, I am just leaving this here, because to me, Rommath is a major character for the blood elves, and it is sad to not see him.

Alright, not sure yet if I'll be doing this new version of RotBE, but I've decided to do a slightly larger update to RotBE v3.0. I'll get started on it soon, I need to replay the whole campaign first, but it will include:
  • Addition of multiple difficulties.
  • New intro cinematic.
  • Most likely some minor techtree changes. The Forsaken techtree will be updated to reflect the changes in CotF v3.0.
  • Aewynne will no longer faint in the interlude between Chapter Eleven and Chapter Twelve. Because while it is hilarious, it is also dumb as shit.
  • Other minor story changes such as that.
  • Fixed UI and other issues.
  • And probably some other minor stuff!
