Redirecting ads at homepage

What the hell is this? Sometimes when I click a link from the homepage (forums, icons, maps, etc) I will get an ad REDIRECT, not popup, which makes me wait 15 seconds to proceed or have to type in the address again (or click the bookmark).

It's not THAT bad, but it really is kinda annoying when you get a lot of them.

Example (one particularly annoying ad, I mean, if you're going to get ads at least don't make them "classmates" ads. there aren't any 60 year olds looking back at their class of 1970 at this site...)

90% chance that this is caused by adware or other nasty pieces of software (malware or something) that have embeded themselves in your PC. Run a virus scan and se if it fixes up.

I for one have never had any of these problems.

No, it is not. It happens only on this site and it happens to me on every computer I visit from. Even the school comps which any changes made are reverted back at the restart.

Yeah it's not adware. It only happens here at hive, and only when I navigate from the homepage to resources, chat or forums.

Im going to have to agree with void on this. Its quite annoying and Im very sure its only on THW. Ive seen other websites that have ads like this but its specific to certain sites.

I always thought this was intentional and a direct result of the ads to 'keep the site alive'. I've always gotten these ads, fairly consistently too.

It happens when you're on the 'news' page and then click the 'forums' tab at the top of the screen. You have to refresh the news page a few times and keep clicking the forum tab to incite it to happen, but it will. It's always the classmates ad, too. Additionally, I can only seem to recreate it once per ip per log-in.

I got these fairly often when I switched to Chrome, but after a week or two I didn't see them any more. Same thing when I upgraded to FF3.

I had annoying "Sterling" Adds, whenever i went on Hive, for the first 3 weeks.
Then i ran a Virus scan and found 73 Trojan Horses

Deleted them, restarted, ran another one, none found, and still Adds.
But now they are gone

Just this question to the people that have the adds: what did u downlaod on this site? It might help us finding something we didn't see before.
A guy uploading a virus in one of his models for example.

If you try uploading anything other than a real resource (.mdx for models, .blp for skins, etc), it totally screws up the resource sections.

What browser is everyone using BTW? If you're still using internet explorer, try firefox or opera. Personally I prefer Firefox mainly because of the variety of add ons/extensions for the browser.

This happens occasionally if I read the hive as a guest from work using Internet Explorer 7. However, I have never seen such things using firefox.

I figure it's just part of the whole tribalfusion/bidvertizier javascript ad system.

Never had it with IE on 3 different PCs, even ones I never have used to log into this site before.

Eithor your ISP is being retarded and forcing you to view adds, you have a virus or it is somthing that happens when you are not logged in and view a page.

I have successfully reproduced it on 6 of 6 computers, 2 of which were freshly reformatted as of yesterday. This is something inherent to the site, not some virus, get it through your heads. It's 99% likely to be exactly as Samuraid suggested it was, which in case you failed to read was --

Yes I have seen this advertising done on other websites as well, and it is vastly annoying.
As dusk said just refresh the home page a bunch of times and click forums it should pop up.

Disabling javascript seems to stop it from popping up for me.

I love how the first comment from a staff member was "90% it's your fault", way to trust your user base.

Well, I don't subscribe to any lists but instead manually create my own adblock filters, so maybe there's something I'm blocking that some of the lists are not.

I think it may be provider dependant. Maybe the adverts displayed are based on the IP you are using and where it is from. As I am in Scotland, maybe those adverts are not sent to people axcessing the site from Scotland yet Pyritie from england has them so maybe areas like England are affected by that advert?

Really, I have never had them as otherwise it would state that a popup has been blocked.

No, it wouldn't state that a popup has been blocked. These aren't popups, they're site-internal redirects/covers to other ad sites that make you wait 15 seconds before letting you continue to your regularly scheduled program. We've already explained this a good half-dozen times.

They make you wait for "the page to load" before that button appears. This takes a few seconds for me regardless of my connection, so I have a hunch it's an intentional delay.

		Hello guys<br />
The site was down for approximately 3 hours earlier today. It was caused by the dynamic dns which suddenly was removed from dyndns.org.<br />
Anyway, we're up again.<br />

I feel sorry for the server because of ALL our downtimes, none has been caused by the server. Often it has been the router, this time DNS, a few power outtages, but never the server itself.<br />
<br />

		Hello all<br />
The maps section currently contains way too many pending maps. I would like to help our map moderators by easing the load on their shoulders. I will be removing ALL pending maps so they can start over. However, if your map is pending and you don't want it deleted, you can press the &quot;Keep This&quot; button on your pending maps so you don't have to resubmit them.<br />
The button is right next to &quot;Update&quot; and &quot;Delete&quot;.<br />

I will be deleting all pending maps that haven't been marked in 3 days or something.

You said it happens on the News page? Well, my link to Hive on the favorites tab redirects right to the Forums and not the News page. Have you tried doing that?

EDIT: Or wait, I think it happened to me once or twice in the past, though I don't remember seeing any adds like that.
