Here's an article promoting the contest and a little review on each map, check it out:

Yeah, they're confusing terrain contests with map contests.the problem with a public poll in the melee mapping contest is, that many, if not most of the people judge based on the pictures of the map, which isn't bad, but I wouldn't call appropriate for melee maps. Thus often, maps with more eye candy win the poll by a landslide.
@W3Sour hey that's really neat. I will read it tonight

Isn't that like for everything? Its why the ad industry has skyrocketed and is now one of THE most
important things for anything. Because its science and psychology to manipulate people's views in order
to get them to pick your product. Same could apply here, there might not be a product to sell,
but people are competitive for peanuts if they get into it
EDIT:
Just read the link, love the positive comments and things the reviewer I guess left for all the maps.
Overall they seem happy to be playing the maps, which is the best thing any mapper could hope for.
Like the last contest, when the Aetherium won the public poll, and no offense, but that map is impossible to play as ordinary melee. Yes, it is nice and original, but impractical, and it is no real melee map because it used imported stuff

Hi everyone!
Now I haven't been here for a couple of days so I missed most of the commentaries in this thread. But let me first thank all of you! @Mr.Henci for, let's say the "administrative" part of this contest, all of those who created maps, those who commented either here or in the previous contest thread, and the 25 who voted so far (I know I now thanked some of you multiple times). I also like the feedback some of you gave to the contest maps. I actually had my own excel file with my notes about all the maps, but except for the overview information like number of creeps and amount of gold I haven't posted any of it here. I studied to become a teacher and I've always been strict when rating tests. While a map making contest is not a school exam and there is of course never just one "right" answer or solution, I would not refrain from including what I would see as flaws in a map from any review. I even think that you can most often learn more from mistakes or flaws than from what you already did well. So my reviews would look harsh or even like badmouthing. I also don't want to influence anyone in this way since I am a participant in this contest. And that is why I won't post any of this until the poll is over and the judges have made their calls. Only if one of the map makers asks for a review from me via private message I would answer in the same manner.
I'm also already eager for the next map making contest and I guess I'm not alone. We could maybe start a discussion thread about this soon – even though it doesn't have to start anytime soon.

in no way to make flamming or start a discussion.
I would like to state IMO: That the map Aetherium a can be played as melee but not as competitive melee for hard and money melee contest, but mine maps can´t neither so is not a big issue, a lot of users play just for fun.
In fact even some maps from Blizzard itself are not very good for playing "ordinary melee"
that's no hate against that map, I just say, that it is more aesthetic than practical.

Is WTii active and knows about the contest finish? Just curious. I'm halfway through my judging of the maps -
That shouldn't be the timer for judges, I'd rather like an elaborate verdict from the judges rather than a quick look at the maps.9 days to finish the poll.
Again, if you feel like mapping, there is noone stoping you, no need to have contest every month.)
So the previous contests were both about 1v1 maps?
So I think that the next contest should be 2v2 maps

@XanderD It's not like we are inactive community.
Last contest begun in August and ended in late October. This contest begun on December 1st, there was like one month between them.
I am happy so many melee mappers are showing up each time, don't get me wrong, 15 entries for 4v4 maps is great succes IMO, but what I mean was, that when you are hiped, you can create map and publish it without contest. I just don't want to over do it to a point, where people will go: meh, another one of those melee contest. Like when you see FIFA/Call of Duty game released every year. Maybe I'm alone though and if all of you feel, like endless loop of contests is a way to go, I have no problem to comply with that.
And yes, since some of you have allready mentioned next contest category, there is serious lack of good 2v2 maps in the community, so our next contest will probably be 2v2 maps, but we will see about that later.

- -Cloak of Flames+Ring of the Archmagi +3 from a green camp!?
- -scouting is problematic as there are lots and lots of neutral hostile camps here and there in the way.
- -an army of slow Golems on a path to somewhere!? Feels like Dungeons and Dragons, an RPG? Not only that, they get triggered by a nearby camp. Almost each of them drops an item.
The problem is, that it's possible and that means item drops are not balanced. "Just you" sounds like it's my problem and I should deal with it.1. That's probably just you.

@deepstrasz you didnt write a lot about Northern Felwood, why?
Or they will post their ratings to you and then you will post these publicly. Please don't judge me again because of my bad English.@XanderD It doesn't work like that. Both judges will send their judgement to me, I will do the math and than anounce a winner in a new thread. (Same as we did with Contest thread - to - Poll thread) And no, Wtii did not forget about it. He is nearly done to be honest.
I'm pumped for the next one. Ive been working on a 1v1 map so a 2v2 would be fun.Patience boys and girls, we are getting there. (Allbeit, slowly I will admit.) We have encountered few problems, but will do everything to fix them. In the meantime, we can start talks about the next contest, I'm thinking 2v2 maps, but I would love to hear from you guys here: Next Melee Mapping contest Pre-disscusion
and also I'm on a macbook so I can't use world editor and had to review each map individually in Warcraft 3 against the computer.
