Am I the only person who thinks...it might be a twinge bit cruel to tell someone you love them RIGHT before dying?

after hearing what you said, i would have to go back on my answer from before.
after seeing that girl smile at the formal last thursday, i would really hate anything sad to happened to her.

i guess i will rocket myself into space. i wll freeze on the way and die while looking at the beautiful stars

Yes. It isn't cruel- it's actually rather tragic and dramatic. Especially if the person you're telling it to feels the same way. Then you and her can spend the rest of the 10 minutes in eachother's arms. Awesome.
