How tall are you?

Well, height is also a genetic thing... plus maybe some random factors...

I'm taller than both my mom and dad, for sports I only used to play chess when I was a kid, I only started playing physical sports when I reached about 15 (tennis and football/soccer), and I used to sit a lot on front of playstation and computer... and oh, maybe I was just about a bit taller than you are right now, but there aren't many people in our country who reaches around 6ft so I'm still tall by our country's standards...

and I have a friend which plays basketball since when he's little, and I guess you can call him a midget... if ur gonna be frustrated, I wonder how much more he'll be...

As far as the matter of how height is determined, it is mostly all genetics. It also has to do with nutrition. A malnourished person will not grow their to their full height. The reason we've started to see an upswing in recent years (the last 50ish, roughly) in height of individuals is because of the availibility of food.

Space to develop is another factor. We have tiny people in China because 25% of the worlds population lives there (most in a very crowded area close to the sea, the rest spread out far in rural areas). We also have giant fuckers from Lithuania and such because the country is wide open and there is space to develop.

Genetics is a very large factor though. Genetics not only determines heighth but also body frame, which is why some people are naturally thin/fat. Bone structure also helps weight and height.

It's a very interesting topic that more people should look into. I've also heard that instead of nutrition and space being positive factors to growth they are limiting factors. "You must have X and Y to reach your full potential height."

I hate to be classified as a hater, but I don't think stretching exercises and healthy eating will actually make you taller. You just have to have the proper stuff to develop, which if I recall correctly is mostly just calcium and calories. Of course getting your recommended daily value of B vitamins is excellent, but I think those help regulate organs and keep you healthy.

It's not really that difficult to come up with this stuff if you just happen to pass by something you are interested in. just like why people are more likely to get a better grade in a subject at school if you are determined to put effort into learning such a thing.
Also if we put the right amount of pressure onto how we treat our bodies with the right nutritious meals not being to overwhelming for our development. I must also say that unhealthy food can also be good for you to increase height and also getting sick also may help on various occasions. It's all in the means off balance >.> for an outcome (the way you want it or not). You just gotta know how to control your body in general.

@Jazztastic:

I have been looking all over the internet to find a way to NATURALLY increase my height, so I kinda know what affects human height.

1.GENETICS
Definitely has the most influence. If your parents are both, let's say 183cm/6ft tall, in most cases you will be taller than 175cm and shorter than 190cm.

2.STRETCHING
You can be suspicious, but stretching does increase height. During the day, your muscles and spine get bent, and somewhat thicker, but smaller (can't remember what's the expression for it). If you do not believe me, then mark your height when you wake up, and then do it again before you go to sleep. There will be 1-3cm difference. Your spine and muscles will relax and stretch during your sleep. If you stretch and relax them before you go to sleep, they will have more time to grow during the night.

3.SLEEPING
You need at least 9 hours of sleep every night. Most of your growth happens while you sleep. It is also better to go to sleep before midnight. One hour of sleep before midnight is better than 3 hours after midnight.

4.NUTRITION
Of course, nutrition. I think I do not need to explain too much here. You need to eat healthy food, which includes everything with vitamins(fruits and vegetables), carbohydrates and proteins.

5.PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Scientifically proven. If you spend all the day outside, running, swimming, or playing ball, you will get taller. Do not really know why.

^ You need specific sports though. Soccer won't get you tall. For some reason tennis does. And what definitely does - basketball or volleyball, all ppl I know that were and are still playing are taller than me.

But you can't beat genetics even with that. Another guy also doing lots of basektball was short and he grew taller a bit but you can't expect from short to become taller than any tall guy.

You stretch yourself upward for the initial hit, otherwise no jumps but you stretch yourself forward to where you're going to reach the ball.

Definitely a stretching game(jokes).
My upper body normally hurt after every time I played Tennis, but then I got used to it  Oh yeah, my legs too. I never was one to wear proper attire for sports (Play Basketball in Jeans, woot.)
