Goblin's tale!

I honestly have no idea if i'm ever going to finish goblin's Tale..

Starcraft2 just completly destroyed warcraft3 on every aspect, only sad part of it is that it's not a fantasy related game...

I really don't know.. I'm not motivated to work on Goblin's Tale anymore (with the world editor)

I will kill you if you do Goblin's Tale in Sc2.

Oh well after a talk with Keiji and Friky I've decided not to drop Goblin's Tale..

Today I,ve resetted the hole terrain will start working on it tonight..

Now I have a question..

should I keep this type of look and theme for the terrain?
http://www.freakygaming.com/gallery/game_wallpapers/world_of_warcraft/stranglethorn_vale.jpg (Red-orange rocks with brown mud and tiles with sand abit here and there with alot of vegetation, atmosphere = very hot!)

or should I do something brighter and less WoW-ish warcraft ish and go for that look ?
http://www.100destinos.com/imagenes/hawai-viajes.jpg (sand everywhere with Pale rocks with lots of vegetation, less hot atmosphere, just more beautyfull and more rainbow colors..)

I vote for the 2nd, beach-like theme.
Don't forget we're talking about murlocs as well..
I suppose murlocs appear at the beach rather than that jungle-ish theme.

no worries for the murloc, since the first concept of Goblin's Tale was in Stranglethorn vale like in the first picture, there's beach/murlocs etc.. so nothing to worry about..

I present you! (maybe)

Goblin's Tale new Terrain!

it's only the relief but anyway...

please comment and make suggestions..

WHite dots = merchants
Yellow dot = the Goblin chief
The black circle = tactic points to defend the village
black arrow = the murloc path to get to the chief.

I say go for something like this for the murloc areas and other beaches:
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.wow.com/media/2007/05/aa0511.jpg

Aztec\troll ruins, palm trees, dry yellow earth and sand.

And something like this for the Goblin village, mainly on shore:
http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/96699.jpg
http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/139304.jpg

Below a giant cliff, got a big boat somewhere there, hanging shark, small shacks, a dock, lots of crates...

Or something like this for the village if you want a more 'industrial'\'earth polluting' look:
http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/96705.jpg

Dark colors, lots of steam and mechanics, patched up metal, tubes, pumps in the water...

Or perhaps a more war-like approach to the village:
http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/118316.jpg
http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/124864.jpg

Zeppelins, zeppelin 'post', a wall, watch towers, high straw-like buildings, skulls, banners, boxes with all sorts of supply(food, weapons, etc).

For the Jungle itself...

http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/141580.jpg
http://static.wowhead.com/uploads/s...ead.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/112374.jpg

Troll ruins, gray\yellow rocks\dirt\sand, lots of vegetation, exotic flowers(barely seen on the screenshots but Stranglethorn has lots of it), palm trees and ferns, hanging bridges(don't make them hang from HUGE cliffs, because that would make it almost impossible to keep the camera stable while, for example, fighting on bridges), hanging vines, lots of green and purple and red...

Sweet, again I really hope you get this done... it's looking pretty damn awesome - finish it. I regret never having finished any wc3 maps to a decent standard, don't make the same mistake D: you WILL regret it ;)

And don't worry about no-one playing it, seems there are a fair few people whose pcs struggle running sc2 :/ so Wc3 isn't dead 'yet'.

Why do you keep wanna reterrain?
The pictures on the first page looks awesome :O
But I would vote for the jungle theme ^^

thanks mate.. After several test, I've realised I couldn't make the jungle look I really wanted, so droped the idea, Will come back to the original style, Stranglethorn Vale Style..

:3

beside that, I will hope the hole terrain will be done for thusday.

meeh.. anyway I really love the first theme anyway..

Today.. I've lost 3 hours of work due to a freaking electric shut down caused by ''magic nonexistent storm'' sadly I don't think I can pull the lost stuff the way I want again for that part of the terrain ><.

will keep you updated.

That's pretty freaking awesome
Although ashenvale grass doesnt really seem to fit in.

You didn't answer my question, btw
Why do you wanna recreate the whole terrain?
The screenshots on the first page is really good

First Screenshot of the new terrain! still a wip but that should make you wait a little bit for the rest :3

and indeed I've catch up with the 3 hours lost.. ><

In my opinion, it looks too... Desert-like. Stranglethorn is a jungle and as thus should have much more vegetation. Currently there is too much yellow and orange - I'm talking about the rocks, the tiles and the fog.

Also, the barrel with the water... Is it... Is it coming out from the rock? :/

Well first!

= I want to recreate the terrain because the last terrain was way to big for a hero defence which affected a lot the tactic, you had to run miles to get 1 item and to get to a point to an other.. that's why I'm making it 3 times smaller..

= About the barrels, they are engineering structures to contain liquid such as water. Now, about the ''pool'' it's actually a turbine and in the game it's turning.. it's basicly 1 of the spot were the village take their water to drink.

= About the water coming out of the rock.. well dude! there's pipe under the rock and in the earth, you simply don't see the pipes, but perhaps you want to see them.. :\

= About the ''none enough vegetation'', it,s still a W.I.P I'm going to add more vegetation, there's no trees on the cliff, no bushes on the ground.. it's still a wip! :p

I think I answered to everyone? will keep you updated

That makes sense ^^
keep up the good work

I just had the same conversation I had with debode again, indeed it happened a few times... and I wanted to share it with ou guys.

what we basicly said is.

MSN conversation said:
[16:40] Debode: And let me quote Linaze:
"If I gave goblins free hands, it would end up just like GT, a gameplay disaster."
[16:54] Debode: I was fully honest with you so I appreciate that you are honest with me but still, I'm saying that if you focus on getting pretty icons done instead of using godamn Blizzard icons, at least as placeholders, then you wont get too far.
[16:55] Mr.Goblin: The thing is, I'm FUCKING alone working on goblin's Tale and it's the only thing I can do good at least.... D:
[16:55] Debode: And if you don't learn how to trigger, at least learn to use the Object Editor, seriously the item locations and descriptions are messed up.
[16:55] Mr.Goblin: I know didn't finished most of the items D:
[16:55] Debode: Then search for a PROFESSIONAL coder, like, one who can make more than spell that one-hit-KOs the unit.
[16:55] Debode: For example: Anachron, Linaze, TriggerHappy, Ap0calypse, Hanky.
[16:56] Mr.Goblin: You are right, but again I don't feel like requesting a coder to help me out... cause working on someone else project is not fun.

Indeed, Goblin's Tale will face a wall pretty soon if I'm still working alone. And I certainly don't want that... it's my project, it's my concepts, it's my personnal video game, etc. but sadly I need an other good codder to help me out on this and perhaps 1 person or 2 that could help me with the object editor while I work on the art stuff..

Goblin's Tale is way to huge for only 2 person to work on, (me and gamecrafter_DK) we will need an other coder and 1 object editor partner..

I've made enough Art stuff related to goblin,s Tale to finish it. So those interrested, send me a p.m or spam this thread.

What exactly do "object editor partner" means?
like what's his/her job?

make the Items.. (place description, make prices, set effects, make effects so it has the right description when the player gets the buff) basicly everything including the object editor and the game balancing.

what will have to be done with the object editor is

=Items
-item spells
-item balancing.

=Murloc's wave
-murlocs spells
-murloc units
-murloc balancing

=Heros
-Hero spells
-Hero balancing.

and that's quite alot of job for 1 person.. that's why I need a partner.. since I'm already making the terrain/textures/icons/lore/concepting the project.

I see...
So this is kind off an idea maker too?
or is the person supposed to create something that you've already thought of?

the person is supposed to create something that I've already thought of.

that's basicly why it's tricky.. but I'm not selfish, I can take ideas and add the good ones in goblin's Tale..

that's my main problem, most of the things are already been though for goblin's Tale, only need to create the stuff basicly.

an example for a custom item with a custom spell that would fit into that map IMO would be something like some jumping boots that would help the owner of it to reach certain points or get fast in/out of a battle, while NOT using the blink spell, because that would be just disappearing-appearing. No, this item would use a triggered spell.

But as I said: this is just something that I made out now and should help you guys to help Mr.Goblin with some nice item concepts :)

not that complicated, for now goblin,s Tale items doesn't require triggered spells (only a few of them).

It just needs some good object editor editing, like changing a spell renaming it, change the number of damage it deals and change the look of what it does..

that's what I mostly need cause so far only a few items have been done, and we still need to make simple items like..

Potions, food items, basic weapons items, recipe items, magic items.. same thing for the murlocs..

and most of the items concept have been written down..

Spells are not made in the Object Editor, at least not good spells. And seriously, if you want, I'll just tell you exactly how to do it, if you seriously don't know how to change an icon's position in the command panel and\or don't know how to make a Health Potion heal 1500 hit points rather than 250.

I think, he actually knows, HOW to do it, but he has not the time to do it, since, he already told us, that he already makes many other things at the project.
anyway, I really like the new terrain :)

Goblin's Tale been through ALOT of events recently... Goblin's Tale have took a diffrent direction mostly in the combat system and the way each classes have a role, with the help of Caedrus, Each Classes have now new spells, that will be revealed in due times... also we decided to add something else to goblin's Tale, it involves a new ''type'' of goblin... >.>

again all the informations will be told in due times :D
I'm also remaking the terrain once again, (I didn't really went far with the last design anyway D:)

Thanks all for being patient..
