Since we have several of "Games with the best XXX" threads already, I thought I'd toss this one up here.
My vote is cast for the Halo series. O'Donnell and Salvatori never fail to impress.

I'm going for Nobuo Uematsu and Mystwalker.

Nubuo's done an amazing job with Lost Odyssey, Blue dragon and the final fantasy series with its sountrack.

I didn't know we had a thread about games with the best XXX.

Anyhow, a thread about game soundtracks is not fulfilled without mentioning Final Fantasy series. I'd also like to add that there's some pretty neat music in Heavenly Sword.

Oooo, well the Halo soundtracks are great, yeah.
The 3D Elder Scrolls games (the only ones I have played, admittedly) have pretty great music too.
The Bard's Tale. 'nuff said.
I also love that FF7 battle song... The sontana of something, it was in the movie.

There should be more stuff there, NWN etc, but I can't really be stuffed listing it.

The BEST soundtrack is from Vampire the redemption ... it is soooo atmospheric

and also very awesome is Heroes Of Might And Magic 3

Nobuo Uematsu and his Final Fantasy series are nice, but the soundtrack of FF9 is definitely the best in the whole series. It's a pity it was such an underrated game. There isn't one single track that I can't listen to.
I've never played Oblivion but I've listened to a few tracks and there are a few good ones.
LotR: BFME, by EA, also has a few tracks not from the movie and they're very, very good. And fitting.

Mass Effect
Oblivion is just so serene :D
Always did the Red Alert Hell March, and all of the other modern C&C soundtracks.
I don't know if this applies but battle ambience for Warhammer tabletop, 40k and Fantasy lol that stuff gets you in the mood.

I thought that the Call of Duty series and the Halo series was pretty good. Some others would be Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Battlefield 2.

Dawn of War 1
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Supreme Commander
Morrowind
Kohan 2
Unreal Championship 2/ tournament 3
Halo 1
Demon's Souls

HeroQuest (the unreleased NES version)
Ghouls'n Ghosts (Commodore 64 version)
Robocop 3 (Commodore 64 version)
Little Nemo: The Dream Master
Cybernoid 2 (Commodore 64 version)
Castlevania games (especially Super Castlevania 4 for the SNES)
Donkey Kong Country games
Mario games (most of them)
Metal Slug games
Streets of Rage 1 & 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I'm only talking about the ones Konami made for the arcades and consoles during the late 80's and early 90's)
Pitfal II: The Lost Caverns (Atari 2600 version)
Probotector/Contra (NES version)
Metroid 1 (preferably the European version)
