A better title for this thread would be "WHAT THE FUCK?!"

http://pc.ign.com/articles/104/1044627p1.html

Evidently, Blizzard Entertainment announced that Diablo III isn't coming out in 2010 and is, instead, going to be released "in a few years." So much for building up the hype just to shut us down like this.

The reason for this is that ActivisionBlizzard is too busy working on the new World of Warcraft expansion, StarCraft II, and a StarCraft II expansion. (wtf? game isn't even out yet!)

Personally, I'm looking forward to their Unannounced MMO and Diablo III more than StarCraft II and the new WoW expansion, so I'm pretty pissed about this.

I suppose this will leave more space and opportunities for Cloudwolf and his map...

I hate Blizzard...
I stopped playing WoW a long time ago, and I was interested in StarCraft right up until I heard its going to come out in 3 installments. Diablo 3 doesn't look that great, for its release date (201? or 20??) its going to be one of the most dated looking new releases out there.

Hell I'd rather see WarCraft 4 at this point. I bet their new MMO is going to suck as well.

If you've ever been a blizz fan you must have realized at some point that they have never cared about graphics and if that's all you've ever cared for then you don't know Blizzard.

I personally think it's a good thing that Diablo III won't be using the most cutting-edge graphics available by its release date :)

Generally, the average household PC's wouldn't be able to run it. By using slightly dated graphics, Blizzard ensure that the majority of gamers can play their game :) Chances are if you purchased a new PC today, it will be able to run Diablo III in a few years time ;)

I don't get why people are upset about Starcraft 2 coming out in three installments? Blizzard said to just think of it as one game with two expansions because thats all it really is. TFT was just as big as ROC and it added more units, maps and overall improved the gameplay as well as the editor. The Trilogy ideal is just a fancy way of saying Starcraft 2 will have two expansions.

On the topic; I didn't expect Blizzard to release Diablo 3 in 2010 anyway. I was expecting 2011. At the moment I'm not really interested in D3 right now anyway. I don't really like any of the classes they have out. The color is looking a bit too bright compared with its predecessors; I hope they change it, but if not than oh well. If I hear that the game still gets good reviews than I'll buy it.

Isn't that just based on the Mayan calendar running out of days? xD Perhaps whoever was making it just got bored? :)

I think you'd create a 1000+ year calendar out of boredom. Bored of being bored? Sounds like a sad life.

Also, this really isn't surprising. It's Blizzard.

People who thought D3 will be out in 1 year need to get back to reality.
SC2 is more complete now than D3 will be for a long time and it is comming out mid - late 2010. D3 is not even 30% finished compaired to SC2s 80+%, there is no way that makes any logical sense that it could be out in 2010.

What is most likly is a 2012-2013 beta/release, as by then SC2 should be out and WoW aging so D3 takes piroity.

WoW is aging, but they're making a new MMO afaIk. And I doubt that D3 will ever have priority, the new MMO will, seeing as there's more money to be found there.

May I remind you that one game is not the same as another...
People working on SC2 for example are good RTS makers, they will not be so good at making an MMORPG for example as those are completly different.

D3 will have piority of artists after SC2 is done purly because all those artists will be free (or mostly free) and it seems logial to get outstanding projects out of the way before starting on new ones. D3 is mostly waiting for art and designer resources, as the engine is prety well refined.

You do realize that both SC2 workers and D3 workers were pulled off their project to work on WoW? Blizzard cares not for who's good at what, but for money. Like, well, all other gaming companies that grew too big.

Blizzard is small, its only 300 odd people. Blizzard != Activision Blizzard.

And logically people will be pulled from them, as they were no longer needed on those projects. For example the grunt programmers have prety much finished with those games (only a few needed for any problems which arise), so maybe WoW needs them for something big and new in the mean time.

Replace "big" with "rich" and you'll see the picture. The third sentence didn't make any sense to me. :/

The reason why Blizzard in 2005 had to pull their team off from StarCraft II was because they had to release World of WarCraft. During that period the main programmers were still making the engine.

Also Blizzard teams don't exceed the number 30 until their projects actually get announced.

I just thought I'd point out this comment someone posted on the article:

Do you guys actually take time to read the damm picture...

"Blizzard Lineup drives growth" , To put it quite simply in 2009 wow is driving the sales growth for blizzard after all why wouldnt it at 20bucks per account per month. in 2010 wow is driving growth but the sales from Starcraft are gunna over shadow that. In 2011---> growth will be driven by all current titles , this isnt a timeline for game release its simply a marketing timeline for sales tracking. Diablo 3 quite possibly will be released in 2010 around may/june but seeing as though the finacial year goes from june to june and SC2 is being release in 2009/2010 finacial year of course its going to spike sales and drive growth, 2010----2011 diablo will probably do the same. Learn to chill folks Each game has its own set of developers and own department no game steals from another wel at least in most facets . Keep your knickers on and hold your breath for mid 2010.

I thought he made a good point.

The massive swearing parade could be avoided.

Imo, Cataclysm looks rather good - will be cool to level a goblin with tons of new quests available.

oh... so it would mean that I have more time to prepare and get a pc that can run Diablo III.... Anyways I'm so busy right now with studies, my warcraft projects and ps2....

btw, from what I understood SC2 will be released together with its expansions? aren't expansions supposed to be released after a game has been released....

Well all of blizzard's games run well on mid ranged pcs, so i guess diablo 3 and starcraft 2 should be no different. And besides, it was obvious that diablo 3 wouldn't be coming out in 2010, because they delayed starcraft 2 so they could work on the new battle.net and i guess the diablo 3 battle.net will take longer.

That is bit much, anyway. So, SC2 was delayed, cuz of this new BNet system, so Diablo might be in 2012 or smthing. I more like think it could be in 2012 end, cause they will probably make their own BNet system too.

The good thing is that every game blizzard makes are incredible good, don't say that wow is a bad game because it certainly is more populer then any other game out there.

All Blizzard's old games are still being played and modded, warcraft 3 & 2, starcraft 1, Diablo1 & 2
