Award icons.

Well, I just tore colours out of the borders being used in the current icons. I did it rather carelessly too.

How the icons shall look is a minor matter.
The real question is whatever or not we want each and every contest to yield three awards.
Some contests, such as the animation ones usually get 0-4 contestants or so, leaving everyone of them with an award.
What I'd like to see is the old award "system" used again. 3rd place awards work for a site like wc3c where there is a contest / 2nd month (kinda), but at the Hive where we have like at least 3 contests up always, this is a big nono.

I completely disagree with the use of multiple award icons per contest. It will only help fill users' post-bits with mass-amounts of award icons. I'd rather keep the post-bit clear.

True. There are users with a real "icon spam" at their profiles. And just to say that a lot have 15 "third place"...

Why not make the first prize icon a Trophy, the second prize some medal thing and the third prize icon a boring old square

Honestly, I think the most logical thing to do would to remove the head and replace is with something else that corresponds to the type of contest. Also, something smaller.

That's too much work...
The other contest category trophies would have different designs, but this would require uniformization of icons in the same category...

I think the current system is fine, but i agree with hawk in that we should have the little icons pertain to the contest theme, instead of the winning model, especially for the people who did not win 1st (e.g. when the 3rd place shows 1st place model outlined in bronze)

I'd agree with that.

@Cockroach: Maybe not a trophy, per se. What about a cube or something for modeling contests, an icon for phoenix contests, a map for mapping contests, etc? I'd poll people for ideas for what should be on the icon before making it though.

I'd like to keep the borders though, if possible.

How about we do the gold/silver/bronze thing but like this:

There's a template of a circular medal thingie.
For each contest, some image connected with the contest is embossed on the medals.

Sound good?

Yes. That'd be the best solution ATM, at least I think.

For the icons, maybe people could choose how many icons they want to see in people's "showcase". Or the person with the icons could decide how many to show.

I think the amount of gold awards shown should be increased from 4 to 6 or so.

Okay so we've pretty much agreed that only first place icons get shown under your avatar. Now, what are we going to agree about what goes on the icon?

Just tint and use a filter on all the current icons. Saves you the trouble and still looks unique.

Okay by the looks of the poll, it's pretty much split between the contest-specific+numbers and "keep it as it is". So it looks like the icons themselves are going to stay how they are.

Alright, next subject. How would you like the awards to be displayed?

I was thinking four or five awards maximum displayed next to each post. Of those, 1st place would be displayed on the left and have the highest priority. 2nd place would be next, to the right. 3rd has lowest priority. Within each rank (1st, 2nd, 3rd) the icons would be ordered from newest to oldest (with newest on the left)

So if someone has five awards (two 1st, one 2nd, two 3rd) on four per post, it would go like this.
[Newest 1st] [Older 1st] [2nd] [Newest 3rd] _{^{and [Older 3rd] would not be displayed.}}

Although what do we do about special awards, such as donor/respected user? Would those have a higher priority than 1st place? Or a lower priority than 3rd? Somewhere in between, maybe? I don't know.

Do you like this? Or do you have other ideas? I wanna hear them!
