Resident Evil - Intense Survival Game

About:

This map was inspired after playing many zombie games, mainly Zombie Survival Z. At first, I just wanted to play around with the map editor, see what it did, ect, but after a while I started liking map creating more and more and so... after three years this is what it became :D. This is my first ever, created map. New and improved, of course.


Map Info:

Play over 10 characters from the Resident Evil series as you try to survive this zombie survival game. There is no story line, but the mansion is mysterious and provides many surprises to those who explore it. Each room contains at least one special weapon, but some rooms may contain traps. The game has no save/load system, and instead focuses more on a person's ability to learn a game. All secrets and traps do not change, meaning the Red 9 will be at the same location as it was the previous game.

By the way, DON'T GET HIT! If you are infected, you will not die from it, but it does stack.

Features:

Fast Action: The biggest feature in this game is that it provides constant gameplay. Unlike most zombie survival games where you just sit there as your marine fires at a bunch of zombies, in this game you HAVE to always be pressing buttons or else you won't be able to win. Use the numpad, pick up weapons, dodge enemy attacks, HOP over enemy attacks, and enemies themselves, and don't forget about your abilities!

Numpad Action: Weapons are inside your inventory meaning the 784512 keys on your numpad will quickly use those items! Place your left hand on the numpad and begin shooting.

Typed Options: Unlike other maps where you move a wisp to a tiny circle to select an option, or select a unit to select a hero, this map goes old school where now you must type specific words to select your hero, options, cheats, modes, ect.

Quest Section: My map does indeed feature a quest section, which many people tend to neglect because I get stupid comments on how to do this and that. Jeez, just press F9 dum dums =].

Hidden items: There is at least one hidden item in each room. Randomly clicking and making green boxes helps in the search for these items.

Ghost: There IS life after death, so you don't need to leave once you die <3.

Modes: There is no difficulty selection in this game, but there are a couple of cheats that make the game easier or harder.

-halfmode, this makes the game spawn half as many zombies
-spawn marcus, this is a boss wave cheat that spawns many leeches, mimicry marcuses, and a surprise =].
-spawn nemesis, this is a boss wave cheat that spawns a lot of crimson heads and Nemesis.


Survival Tips:

1. Always buy knives at the beginning of the game
2. Never get hit. Even after you are poisoned, don't get hit because it stacks
3. Don't move after you throw a grenade because it uses the Flame Strike ability which has delay.
4. Explore!!! Find uber weapons to help you win!
5. Use your first aid spray at the lowest health possible to benefit the most out of it.

Also I'd like to say that Half Mode is a HUGE success =). It works perfectly fine and the game feels at a comfortable pace for all new players.*

Haven't updated in a while, but recently I found a minor bug. A Mimicry Marcus spawns randomly in the beginning.
With this update, I have fixed it =).

New Feature: Boss Waves. Boss waves are designed to be very difficult to defeat. Currently, there is one boss wave and more will be added soon.

Lol. Another weird thing just happened. The trigger stopped working for me =(. Crimson heads no longer die from burns, and I went back to the old cooldown of 2 minutes.

The life of a map maker is very annoying >.<. Okay, I think crimson heads will now permanently die when burned. Im sorry for any problems. Also, Please comment me. Any feed back would be nice. A simple hello would be nice too =D.

Tweaked and finalized new characters and abilities. Mobile Comm Unit will not give you God Mode anymore =P.

I am so sorry again :'(. This one will FINALLY fix ALL BUGS hopefully. 1.6d please let this be the last v1.6

I just unprotected my game. There is an error with the image of Hand Grenade I created with Triggers. If anyone can tell me how to fix this problem, please tell me. I would like to protect my game again.*

has a merchant in the beginning of the game now. Del Lago has been added =). You got to activate the switches on the sides.*

I added the rest of the items, including the magnum series, chicago typewritter, and TMP. Fixed the lagging problem. Crimson Heads die from scorches or magnum shots and... some new corps surprises =). Oh, I never added the Hp sway thing because I figured it'd get too hectic*

*V1.4 will have the rest of the items, corps doodads reviving to provide some scariness =), a monster (lake monster from RE4) and a swaying system where the less hp you have, the more swaying your camera does.

Whenever I come out with a new number update, I usually make errors. It'd be best to wait a couple of hours to see if I make a b or c version.

This is definitely better then the previous version, where the zombies would never come in to attack you till you attacked them first.

I love the new terrain done on the east and west walls or whatever. Music version makes the game 10x more creepier.

Overall: 10/10

3 Questions: 1) Can you win this? 2) Whats the point of opening all of the gates, I know some have secrets to them, but is there any point of opening all of them? 3) Whats that giant corpse in the water in the (sewer?) for, it wasn't there in the previous version. (Haven't gotten to it yet but yeah.) (And if it's giving away a secret, then you don't have to answer this one)

Hey Dregonx. Actually, the previous version where the zombies wouldn't attack you was a bug =\. I'm always experimenting on how to make the AI better, and I think I've got it. Thank you for your feed back =).

Lol, yeah music version makes it so much better. I even tested it. People who play w/o music are a bunch of noobs. When I played with the music version, I had no complaints. Everyone I tested with said they liked my game =).

1) Yes, it's possible to beat. You just need to know the strategies. I've beaten this multiple times, and soloed up to the beginning of level 4. (4.5 levels in total)
2) There is no point in opening every door. It's to your advantage that you find the right items that suit you. I couldn't win if I didn't have grenade launchers =P.
3) The corpse in the sewer is a preloading thing. It wasn't supposed to be there, but I have no idea of how to delete just a single corpse. The corpse is Del Lago. If you press the two switches in the mansion (green things near the river hallways) then it will come out once you enter there. It's okay, I don't mind giving away secrets =).

Yeah I kinda figured that corpse was planning on doing something, I tried jumping over across the wall into that area, but that explains why nothing happened, good thing I didn't find out the hard way, my keyboard would of fell off from my knees hitting it especially if the music was on lol.

Thank you for your comment. Yeah, my game is supposed to be simple but in depth. There's soo many things you can do in this game. Many weapons, and so many strategies and traps.

I know this game is big. It's because of the music I placed inside it. If you're saying THIS version is too big, then people have very slow computers. This is around only 1 MB. Normal people shouldn't have a problem downloading this.

P.S. Studies have shown that games with music provide 10x more fun than compared to games with no music.

A fun map, I prefer some other RE Maps but this one is very good. I dont have any problem with playing it and the music is just excellent!

That'd be nice.

Haha this map is like three years old, but thanks for making it feel brand new again :).

@Zeatherann, sure i'll check out your map later :), a bit into starcraft 2 at the moment though.

@fang, Sorry to hear that you don't like the terrain and rifleman, but the closest thing to a "Barry" model I could find was a bearded rifleman. The terrain looked much worse than before, so it has been a big improvement. And music.... I don't know lol. The map is so old that I've gone through three computers... I forgot the source.

@Cweener, Alright, I will soon. Sorry I am a noob when it comes to tags.

Alrighty,
I will give my full review now, or you can skip to the bottom to see my final words about this map.

Now, the triggers.
Well, you leak some. All the ammo death triggers leak a point. You also leak in your spawn triggers.
We have many leaks tutorials here on THW, or you can go to mine and it should cover all of the different leaks you have here.
Also, if you disable a trigger in the editor(not turn it off, but disable it) you may as well delete it, as it can't be turned on via triggers.
Now, when I said having multiple triggers running on map init is "bad" I had hoped you'd realize, all triggers running on the same event are "bad".
Okay, final critique on triggers, is that for things like the "ammo death" triggers that run on the same event with a condition, why don't you simply use an if-then-else statement and combine them all?
It may not be pretty, but it's better.

The Terrain,

Well, it definitely needs doodads, in the water and such. The cliffs look wierd where it's metal cliffs but brick floor? Get a normal cliff model(in-game), and override the dirt cliff model you have(with the import manager), and then use it.
Now, I loved the terrain. You may not have done it too fantastic, but it's original, and maze-like.
I played it twice and loved that fact.
Great job, just spruce it up some how, maybe add doodads to the grassy part with the graves, and such.

Object Editor Work,

Well, you put a lot of work into everything and it seems to have paid off, as there is a lot of different things, and tooltips are all there, and such.

The gameplay,

This is IMO, the most important part of any map.
With this combination of systems, scary fog, haunting music, and everything else, it was just scary.
W~O~N~D~E~R~F~U~L job here. The best Resident Evil I've played, because I actually jumped once or twice. ;)

My final rating and such.

One of the best Resident Evil games out there, in-game.
The triggers need a lot of work, and the terrain, needs a bit of work, and this could easily be 5/5
The description should be fixed sooner rather than later, because it will not be approved no matter how good it is without a good description.
And we have a description template in our tutorial section, made by a friend of mine, so maybe go check that out.

Wow. I am in literal shock right now because you said my map could easily be a 5/5 because someone pooped on my map about a year ago telling me that this was the worst map ever created (exaggerating of course, but that's how I felt). Because of that, I was never motivated to make my triggers better, get rid of leaks, and to perfect the game and such.

Now I am pretty much motivated into improving this map thanks to you =]. But I have Starcraft 2 now... and I'm actually thinking about transferring this game over to there. Thank you very much for this review, but I'm afraid I will have to decline fixing and perfecting this map. I'll be working on another one on Starcraft 2 =P.

Just let me know if there are anything major I should fix like things that would make this map not approved, and I'll be sure to fix those at least, but right now I REALLY want to play around with the Starcraft 2 editor because it is a sexy beast.

Last questions:

1) About crediting the authors, do I make a sig for THW and then credit every single user from THW?
2) Will THW have a Starcraft 2 map section?
3) In honesty, did you use the numpad at all to use your weapons? Doesn't really matter if you did or not because everything is going to be hotkeys in my next game, but I was just wondering.
4) I see that in the template, it has a section for videos and pictures. Are they necessary? I can probably pull off pictures but a video.... I don't know how to create one lol. Don't have the programs for that.

Thanks again for review this map. It makes me feel really great that a moderator likes it. I'll go ahead and fix the description right now.

my comment may be late, but i have to say, this map has the best combat system out of all RE maps i have ever played. The gameplay is loads better than Hold Position and Attack Move commands, which sums up everything i do in a standard RE map. nice music too.
