No, that is not the case.Peter Canvis said:It doesn't because then players could create their own world of warcraft, which is illegal.
This is the inferred result of the actual reason. The actual reason is because Blizzard has not given permission for us, the modding community, to use their WoW models in WC3 maps. (Like they did with WoW icons, for instance) Because this permission does not exist for WoW models, this site cannot support them as WC3 maps can be used as a mode for donations/payments. Earning money with models used without permission is illegal. Most websites would prefer to just disallow the models altogether than have to deal with the intricate legalities, which is why they're all disallowed whether you make money or not.FrIkY said:Because it's illegal, end of disscusion.
Yes, credits should be given for inspiration, but for a "you cannot use these models" discussion, no, I don't think concept reproduction is a problem. People take a LotR concept and make a model out of that all of the time; I don't see them having their models deleted because they didn't come up with the concept. From a legal standpoint, yes, I agree, the concept is just as important and capable of being copyrighted, but the line gets drawn at permission for these WC3 websites. If we disallowed concepts taken from other things entirely, we'd have to cull the entire database of anything that was inspired by anything else. (Which would be bogus, I am sure you'll agree)Devine said:Blizzard thought of the concept. Even if you recreate the model, credits should be given to Blizzard.
Because it's illegal, end of disscusion.
But them looking terrible in the WC3 environment has absolutely no bearing on allowing or disallowing them at websites.Insincerity said:WoW models also look terrible in WC3 maps because they clash.

Blizzard DID NOT MAKE THE MODELS. People hired by blizzard did, this, they still own personal ownership over the models they have created.
-YOUR STILL STEALING THEIR WORK if your modifying, redistributing, selling or claiming their work not unless you have their permission(actual blizzard people who can say and change the laws and ownership over their content)
So thus, we dont support stealing.
Someone apparently hasn't looked at the models section. The standards are actually fairly low, and truth be told, there are much, much worse models approved.Insincerity said:Sure it does; should we allow crap models to be submitted here?
So you can actually submit a WoW model if you make significant changes.
- No models directly exported from games other than Warcraft III will be accepted.
- This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, World of Warcraft®.
- Models exported from other games may be accepted if the model editor has significantly modified the file.
A simple export is not enough.
I know that Blizzard does not care.and secondly, if we asked blizzards permission to use Wow models, what happenes if they say yes ? Has anyone even asked permission to use them ?
@Ralle What defines significant ?
Don't want to be rude, and I'm not pointing fingures, but we already do.Sure it does; should we allow crap models to be submitted here?
A) By allowing newer modelers to submit models, they may learn to improve their skills, unless they're stubborn.
B) Because we would have hardly any model if we were to remove all the models of low quality.
That would be a boon. Searching is easier in a consolidated database because you wouldn't have to sift through all the crap to get to what you want.
