Darky and I are in agreement regarding the porting of WoW models for use in Warcraft 3.

The only requirement we recommend for their use is owning a copy of World of Warcraft to be able to use/play warcraft 3 maps with WoW content in. Owning a copy of WoW grants you a license to use its content on your PC. The terms of use are somewhat contradictory to Blizzard's 'approval' of modding its games, so this is only our suggested precaution.

I will be returning the ports I made to the site, but will still be ignoring all requests by PM. So stop sending me your dribble, noobs!

I really need to figure out how to use that program so I can make needless dragonspawn for no reason without it crashing on my ass

Oh, so it wasn't cause of the needless dribble about people wanting you to convert "omfg ranraroagaos" or "liek omfg teh blackwing" that made you remove them?

1. This is silly. I don't see the point of this interdiction. And I don't see all this fuss with exporting and importing from WoW. If you have the models, doesn't mean that you will be able to play the game, and so people will stop playing it.

2. You can't really check whoever has WoW and who doesn't. Anyone can download the map, techincally.

Conclusion, this is pretty pointless. 1 from Blizzard, 2 from Darky, unless he comes with some magical interdiction.

Darky said he allows the wow models. The disclaimer is optional, but seems a sensible 'precaution' to cover you.

Your comment on not knowing who owne wow is pretty stupid.

It's illegal to download copyrighted music without paying - does that stop people? No.

Its illegal to play WoW without owning the game and a subscription. Does that stop everyone playing? No.

I am not responsible for someone else doing something illegal.

Let me put <lame> or <foolish> tags on this cause well the map/mod maker would import the model on his map, and he will make sure he has WoW , but that won't guarantee that people who play the map will actually do so (they won't care at all). So actually distributing the models in a map or mpq will still be a legal problem.

So I would say:
- This is illegal.
- We don't care
- WoW models on warcraft III games mean WoW advertising which means WoW profits.

Once people download the maps with them in it, its out of our hands. I think you all are taking these "legal" issues a little too far. Models arent individually copywrited like music songs are. After all, how many maps in the archive do we have that have music tracks uploaded in them? How many of them are hugely popular? (i.e. cult of the damned) you want us to remove all those too to ease the paranoia here?

Besides, we havent been shut down because of the gold banner, and thats far more illegal. I've talked to a blizz rep and he only expressed discontent over it, not "we're gonna call our lawyers." Unless we are doing something that directly costs them money, such as selling/distributing bootlegs or cracks, or things that interfere with official ladder gameplay like hacks or other cheats, they wont take action against a website.

So let the models go back up.
